Did a search, found nothing.

I saw in the DP Wire that Capcom is releasing a Mega Man X Collection for PS2 and GC. It's supposed to be released this Tuesday. Hopefully they put the controls back the way they should be, unlike the disaster that was the contol scheme on MMAC.

Anyone else looking forward to this?

http://ps2media.ign.com/ps2/image/object/728/728343/megamanxcol_ps2box_usa_org_000boxart_160w.jpg

The compilation will consist of Mega Man X1-3 from SNES, and X4-6 from PSX. Additionally, the Euopean-only release "Mega Man Battle and Chase" game is included.

IGN already reviewed it and gave it a 7.0, but who trusts their reviews?

It will be $29.99, as was MMAC. I am planning on picking it up, though I am not sure which system to grab it on. MMAC was better on the PS2, and I am thinking that this will be as well, since 3 of the games were PSX games and the controls SHOULD therefore be the same.

Planning on buying the Game Cube version.

If you had read IGN's review you'd of saw this.

"The good news is that at least this time there's no real advantage for the PS2 version over the GameCube one. Whereas before, the Mega Man Anniversary Collection on PS2 had a number of benefits over its Nintendo counterpart, they're essentially the same product this time. There's faster load times on the GameCube disc and better audio / video compression on the PS2 version, and that's the extent of the difference -- control schemes are fully customizable for both."

Did any of the PSX games use the Dual Shock, or do they predate that? If its all digital control, I'll go with the superior Hori GC controller over the PS2 DS.

I absolutely cannot wait until Tuesday. I've been waiting for the release ever since I heard about it, and then it kept getting pushed back. Anyway, hopefully Best Buy has it, because I don't want to be forced to go to multiple places to get it.

I'm sure I'll get it, even though I've got X1-X8 (minus 2 and 3) I'll wait till it drops in price or something before I bother. It's not like I've never played them before.

I'll likely buy it, either at my store (whenever the heck we'd get it) or at Gamestop or Best Buy after work sometime this week.

According to Nintendo Power, MMX3 is the overseas edition, with cut scenes and apparently no border around the gameplay.

Supposedly the controls are better now which is a good thing. I for one are really looking forward to having the cutscenes for x3.

Once I've had my fill of the Capcom Classics Collection, I'll get this. Much like with the original MM collection, it should play like a dream with the Retrocon PS2 pad. I cannot wait to unlock Battle and Chase, I've been waiting many years to play that, and I'm sure it'll be worth the wait. Like MMAC, I could see them waiting a few months or so before announcing and releasing an Xbox version.

I've been waiting on this since the release of the MM collection, so I'll grab it as soon as I see it. Is there going to be a "re-mix" mode like in the MM Collection? If so I hope they decide to do it for all of the games music, instead of only some.

Now if only Konami did a collection release for Castlevania.

Yeah it's gone from the gamestop and eb games release list finally. Poor thing was on there for nearly 2 years just about. Put that poor thing to rest.

Yet. what could have been the main factor for not releasing this game? Not enough space on a GBA cart perhaps?

Wow. Still holding on. I hope it does eventually happen because I would like to play the one that didn't come out here on real hardware. I think the problems were actually lost data issues akin to what happened to R-Type III on GBA. Either that or they were having difficulty implementing extra features they wanted to add.

Back to topic - Totally forgot about this one with all the holiday BS. May have to grab it tomorrow. Remember everyone, release dates are actually ship dates. Tuesdays are CD & DVD days, Wednesdays and occasionally a Friday will see the release of new Video Games. It will be at all the major retailers tomorrow. Best Buy and the odd store that breaks a release date on something already in the backroom will occasionally make us all crazy. (As an aside, when I worked at Funcoland between jobs, we had Halo 2 a week before it was set to release. Our DS shipment was received about 4 days pre release. Outrun 2 was another one I can remember. It happens all the time. Unfortunately, my manager played by the rules and guarded them with his life. Noble guy though. --Ridiculous tangent--)

Yeah I don't think its cancelled either, http://www.estarland.com/GameBoyAdv.cat..product.16571.html I am going to pick up the gamecube version of the Megaman X collection. Question for you guys though. I hear the PS2 version of Megaman Anniversary (the first one) was better on PS2. I have the gamecube version. What was better about the PS2 version. Just interested. I know the cube version had that special documentary on it while the PS2 version didn't.

The A & B buttons were reversed in the GC version to devastating effect and, AFAIK, it also lacked the arranged soundtracks available in some of the games on the PS2 version. That was a game I was going to get for the GC prerelease, but the control issue totally killed it for me. Unfortunate too as, even with the PSX being home to Mega Man's latter adventures, I , and many others, have always associated Mega Man with Nintendo.

Finally got a go at it. The ports all seem totally perfect, but lacking in extras, unless they are unlockables. Battle & Chase is an unlockable and I am unsure as to how its done, so I can't comment on that. The emulation is pretty great, especially compared to the first comp. All in all, a very worthy purchase for the MMX fan.

I bought this game on the 12th, and it's pretty awesome so far. I noticed it is lacking extras, but the artwork is pretty cool to see. Also, when you get the Ryu Fireball in Mega Man X, Mega Man doesn't say "Hadouken!" anymore. It felt odd doing it without him saying it.

Yet, Mega Man Battle and Chase is rather fun, it's like Mario Kart meets Crash Team Racing.

10 playable characters, each with their own abilities. Two hidden characters.

Yet, when you race in GP mode, each time you win 1st place, you get to have a piece of your opponent's car. (Engine, Wheels, Wings, etc.) So you can customize your car to whatever you like, plus each part you get has a unique ability.

Even has a 2 player Vs. Race mode, here you can upload your custom car or just use a default to race against someone

Good collection.. but there's so much that could have been done to make it a better product (and probably would have been done if sourced to a Japanese company as opposed to a "quick-cash-in" American company). First thing I noticed is that they went back and added a "Damn" to MMX1 but couldn't bother to fix "X, why you done this to us?" Lame. Secondly, the save screens for X1-X3 should have been composed in the same resolution/style as the game. It's poor design in my opinion. They should have gotten the original animation sources for the cut-scenes and at recompressed them to a higher quality. There should have been a choice for PS1/SNES music on X3.. the PS1 music is horrible in comparison. While I'm not big on Japanese voice acting, a choice to use the originals would have been nice. As it is it seems like they just slapped each game on as a cash-in.. it's a good deal for $30 (considering the asking price for cart-only X2 and X3 espeically) though. Finally, as a personal preference, Battle and Chase should just not be on here.. it's an embarrassment and better left forgotten.

Seriously, these collections need to be handled by the Japanese companies. Look at the differences from the PS1 Namco Mesuems to the US PS2 ones.. huge difference in the "love" shown for the products showcased.

Leo_A
02-05-2006, 08:01 PM
Your theory is flawed.

Show me more love toward these retro collections than Digital Eclipse has shown(A US company). Or the people that put together Activision Anthology.

So seriously, it all depends on the firm doing it, not the region it's done in.

Think of it this way, Capcom listened to the fans with the success of MMAC for MMXC. Sure they didn't include as many bells and whistles as the previous one, but they did include the PSX/Saturn port of X3 (which none of us here have really seen.) along with having Battle & Chase which is a game some of us have wanted to try out for awhile now.

Yes after vagely (been years since actually playing the SNES X games, maybe I'll replay them briefly on an emulator to compare) but I do agree the music quality for X3 is lacking, sounds too soft and did the music repeat itself in a loop, as apparent as it sounds, for the SNES game?
