I just painted my genny 2 last night with krylon fusion spray paint. Let me know your thoughts/opinions, I am probably going try to paint the x on the top of my xbox next. If I get enough intrest I'd consider painting systems for other people for $$.

You did a damn good job on that. Did you use just normal spray paint or did you use a airbrush?

See, I could NEVER make something like this; too complicated and not enough skill :embarrassed:

Good Job! That kinda looks like the special blue edition of the Game Gear, only w/ the genesis...

nice job man, i am currently making custom painted and changin led's on them for my g/f. the krylon fusion is good but if u touch the painted part alot it will wear off, i suggest a couple coats of clear coat. the only time i used krylon fusion is when i painte dthe interior of my car, it looked good until a few weeks later where it started wearing off(i basically lived in my car at the time so it was high traffic)

VERY small amount of orange peel, and very nice because of this. Better then a lot of paint jobs I've seen, strictly speaking for the Sega Genesis.

Yours is in better condition than mine.

Scroll to the right and you'll see a picture of my genesis... Painted with the EXACT SAME PAINT, and almost painted in the EXACT SAME WAY. Same style, With the black parts.

And, to prove mine isn't a fraud, Check the last time i updated my collection photos. October 26 2005.

I'm surprised that nobody else mentioned it.

looks crappy in my opinion. but that is because I don't like the color.

very nice but why not clean it very thoroughly first? Where the black meets the blue in the little seem is all gunked up :/

Orange Peel is when the surface of the paint looks like the texture of an orange. Not smooth and mirror-like. Look at any new factory paint job on a car. There's orange-peel.

Whoa... that actually looks really good.
When I clicked on the thread, I was sure I was going to see some crude paint job like I always see when somebody tried to do something similar.

Looks like a what If? for a Genesis Sports edition to go with the blue game gear.

im interested in how long this paint will last through normal use. i need to paint a few NES systems that are severely yellowed, or in the case of the 'ebay insanity' thing we did last year, smoke and soot stained. id hate to paint on and have the paint come off in a few weeks to reveal a terribly colored system.

that being said, this one looks great! i wish i had knowledge enough to be able to reproduce the logos in various colors so the entire unit could be painted....

I imagine that there are paints that will fully bond with the plastic surfaces. I know from PC cases that are modded and use automotive paints rarely if ever peel or stain.

And I know proper prepping of the surface, involving serious cleaning and possibly sanding imperfections.

i wondered if roughing up the plastic might make the paint stick, though id imagine thatd take a few more coats...

You need to make sure you tack down the surface to eliminate surface dust and grease. When applying the first coat make it very light and do not apply the second until the first coat becomes tacky, this will help with proper adhesion. Also do not apply to many coats and coats that are too thick, this will cause the sheen to die down, hence the reason why the paint isn't as shiny and mirror like. As you can tell I paint as well. I am working on painting my SNES and will post pics when I am done.
