I was wondering if Rez got a re-release recently. I finally found a copy of it in a local indie store (they had gotten three) and I know that there are quite a few factory sealed copies on ebay right now.
So was there a re-release, or maybe a few boxes of it were found in a warehouse? Anybody know? At any rate, I was finally able to get it, and I could not be happier. It is as good as I had imagined (which is too say, not quite up to par with Panzer Dragoon Orta).

Yes, it has been re-released...or at least I'm 97.4% sure from the info I've heard that it's been re-released. I know Gamefly.com has it for rent now, but I haven't personally seen them in any stores anywhere.

yeah, they re-released it. I am friends with one of the managers of my local game store and he told me it had been re-released. sure enough, they have shiny new copies sitting on the shelf.
glad I didn't shell out a lot of money for a copy . . .

Now wait a sec., are we sure this is a re-release or is this another case of "they found a few cases of them in the warehouse?" I find it really hard to believe they started up the presses again for a game that old and that obscure but I don't find it hard to buy that there was some unsold stock sitting around someone stumbled across.

It is really hard to read what you write, Captain Wrong, when you have the cutest selection of cat pictures... ever :)
But yeah, I doubt this game got a re-release.

I'm with ya - didn't we already go through this re-release question like a year ago? We need a reliable source for this kind of thing, but I'm with Cap'n in assuming that they don't go back and make new copies of a game that didn't exactly fly off the shelf the first time around. Doesn't make a lot of business sense to me.

I've never understood it when people said this. What "presses" need to be started up in order to burn a CD or DVD that aren't already up and running to produce today's current titles? You load up a CD or DVD image on a computer and then burn to disc. I can burn a DVD on my home computer without any inconvienance, why shouldn't a game developer? Reproducing old carts I can understand being a difficult process but not CDs and DVDs.

Original CDs are indeed pressed, not burned. Different process than what all of our CD burners do.

So it does require a bit more than a copy of Rez to create a true original.
Back to topic - I need to do some searching. Rez is one of my favorite games ever and I want a better copy than the one I bought used back near its release (only copy I could find by the time I decided to pick it up). Rez is a game I would love to have a perfect and a for play copy of.

Yeah, there's a little Japanese guy that sits on his computer and burns Rez images. It's that simple.

$49.99 new @ GameQuestDirect.com:

People who've bought these new copies are getting ones without a white sticker across the top unlike the original ones, which means this IS a re-print and not old stock.
I don't think it'll be selling out any time soon either. Whoever is making these re-prints are basically printing up free money (minus production costs). As long as there is a demand for the game, they'll keep making more.

Is there any other way to distinguish an original from a re-print? I'm curious to know which shipment my copy is from.
From what I recall of the last topic about this, the game data, case covers and disc labels are identical to the original release. There is no way to differentiate the two releases.

Well crap... and I just bought the DC version. Oh well, I love my Dreamcast more anyway. :D

The reprint is just that, a reprint. I have pictures of the reprint on my site here:
http://gamerhistory.com/games/rez.html
If the shrink wrap has been opened, there is absolutely no way to tell the difference between the reprint and the original. The only way to tell is the reprint came without the white spine label on the top. Otherwise the games are identical, right down to the copyright date. If it's sealed and doesn't have the white label, it's a reprint. If it's open and doesn't have it, it's anyones guess...

So do you think the ps2 colecters out there will pay more for a sealed 1st pressing? Do think they would value those more?
I can see only one advantage to owning a sealed copy from the original print run: confidence that you do, indeed, have a sealed copy due to the factory label.
