The Flip-Top is basically a replacement case for your PS2. You keep the base with all the hardware intact, and simply change out the top of the case so the CD ROM drive can be opened from the top instead of through the sliding tray. This fools your PS2 into thinking that the drive tray hasn't been opened, so you can swap disks without it knowing it.

I don't have one myself, but that was the way that I was gonna go if I ever got a PS2. I think they come with a boot disk for swapping out the games. Definitely the cheapest mod for playing imports, but it still negates your warranty.

I have the slim ps2. Has anyone here tried the slim kit pro (http://www.modchip.com/ps2/v12slimkit.php)? It looks like it allows you to take advantage of the slim's fliptop without having to open the console. I'm thinking of doing this since I heard the slim ps2's have problems with modchips. Something with about the laser.

Sometime I need to get one of the old style ps2s to mod.

I haven't used that particular one, and it looks like it won't fit in the slightly redesigned PS2 lid.

I'd recommend this instead: http://revolution-sales.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=81&products_id=689

It comes with enough pieces to ensure it's compatible with both molds of the slim PS2 case. Also scroll down to the pull-down menu and add the appropriate version of Swap Magic before adding to the cart. This is exactly what I use for my PS2 - I just finished up playing a few games of Sega Rally with it. :-)

Thanks for the link. I've have the first version of the slim, so I think the product I posted would work. I've never heard of the site you posted.

Okay, if you've got the very first version of the slim one, then you'd probably be safe either way. And Revolution Sales seems reliable enough. I ordered my kit from them, and I think I know a couple others that have ordered there as well.

What I posted if for the slim ps2. There are fliptop cases you buy for the old ps2. To be honest though, if I had an old one I'd rather put in a modchip and not have to deal with swapping disks.

Just buy the fliptop case for the older model PS2.

It's a quick switheroo; takes 5-10 minutes tops.

Just watch that you don't accidentally yank the power/eject button ribbon cable out of its socket. It's a real pain to get it plugged back in, as it requires a fair amount of disassembly to get to it.

Here is a site you could try. It looked like they had ones for that version.
