I have been recently asking around about other consoles I should purchase, the Odyssey 2 is one that I have heard a couple times. I have went to the review section of DP, but little is available.
I was just wondering what about this system stands out?
And what games would be the most enjoyable on it?

Admittedly, my first response to the subject title was the smart-ass reply "Dust.".
But, to be fair, some folks around here do seem to like the O2 (PDF comes to mind), so there must be something that people like about it. I haven't really played one since the heydey of the VCS/Intellivision/O2, so I can't be very objective about it.
It DOES have a pretty good Pac-Man variant in K.C. Munchkin.
Also, to answer your question regarding what sets it apart from the crowd, in case you didn't realize, the O2 has a keyboard built-in. Now, the keyboard is similar in design to a microwave keypad and you obviously wouldn't use it for something like typing up a document, but for entering initials, names, etc... it could be fine. I never used the O2 much so I can't say what it *is* used for, but high score entry, naming players/characters/educational games/the fancy O2-board games, all probably used it.
PDF & O2Williams are probably the resident experts on the O2 though; I'm sure they'll chime in sooner or later.

They have alot of info on the o^2. Its just a classic system that has a few mimic games and some fun originals like Killer Bees. Its also for the most part a very inexpensive system to collect for.

I love it simply because its the ultimate computer gaming system!
Oh, and one simply must play "Thunderball!" the only way to describe it is...Wildly Realistic! Not to mention "Alpine Skiing!" with literally MILLIONS of courses!
And believe me, "Speedway!, Spinout!, Crypto-Logic!" arent simply variations on a theme, they're Three entirely seperate games!.
Oh man, this post has got me all worked up...I need to go play now. Its got the fun of a game, and the mind of a computer!"
Plus, the box art is Amazing!

There's only a handful of Odyssey 2 games I enjoy. It doesn't have nearly the number of quality titles as the 2600, but I think there's enough for the system to warrant buying it. KC Munchkin, Turtles, and Pickaxe Pete alone are enough if you ask me.

The Master Series games are great, combining a board game with the onscreen game. Turtles, Killer Bees, KC Munchkin (the afforementioned pacman clone), and Pick Axe Pete are all good games. KC Munchkin and some other games let you make custom layouts.
The other good point is that it has a small library that is somewhat easy to find. Add in the foreign only releases, the recently found protos, and the newer homebrews and it has enough good games to keep you occupied.

here is all the games for it....(my collection)
of those, the games i find the best are attack of the timelord, pick axe pete, and kc munchkin
a lot of the other games i dont like or havent played....
power lords, atlantis, and demon attack are notably the hardest to get / rarest for the system...

I'll throw in my thumbs up too for Killer Bees, Turtles and KC Munchkin.

I think one of the things that I love about it is that objects don't just flit to the left and right as they all to often do on 2600 games. The action is faster often than comparable Atari games, and the joysticks are better.
Plus there's something really cool about entering your name when you beat the high score... 8-)

If you're looking for more rave reviews...well heck, I'll just save everyone's time and point you toward my Odyssey2 section (http://www.thelogbook.com/odyssey/). My quick recommendations: Pick Axe Pete, Attack Of The Timelord, Killer Bees, Turtles, Power Lords, K.C. Munchkin, Smithereens, Quest For The Rings, War Of Nerves, and the homebrew games are to die for. Good simple fun, no flickering graphics, and just plain addictive. The best two-player games to come down the pike before 2D fighters, hands-down - and still more fun than a lot of 2D fighters too.
Great controllers, great lookin' machine. Still my favorite. I'd take my Odyssey2 over my Playstation 2 any day.*
* or my Studio II for that matter.

Just in case it was ever in doubt, the posts in this thread absolutely prove that controller preference is a matter of opinion.

I consider the O2, VCS, and Intellivision the only true classic consoles. Maybe the Colecovision and the Vectrex as well...they're a bit on the newfangled side though.

I'm not a huge fan of the O2 joystick, but it gets the job done in most games. There's far worse sticks out there.

Although I would have to say this system is a must WAY more fun if you have two players. My favorite games for this system are:
Quest For The Rings: you must have 3 players for this game to work right though, and when you find this game in complete condition, it's well worth it.
Smithereens!: A simple game that is best played with two players, and if you have to voice capability, to be called a turkey 200 times is hilarious every single time!
Sub Chase: With two players, and the ability to change the angle at which your gun shoots, this game can be changed around and you can take turns being the plane or the sub and it becomes way more intense than alot of games that I play now on new systems.
This is a pretty fun system, and you can usually find one for around $15-$20, if you can get the voice to go with it, I say it's a must have.
