a friend of mine just returnd from Uruguay with four PSX CD's:
3-Terror (Nightmare Creatures II, Vampire Hunter, Medievil 2)
Bomberman Fantasy Race
2 CD's: 8 en 1 action games (syphon filter, TR III, Pequenos Guerreros (Small Soldiers), Akuji, Crash, Apocalypse, Bugs Life, Duke Nukem-Time to kill)
They are pirate CD's, but whilst I was expecting the usual gold or silver CD-R, they actually arrived on black coated CD's, just like Sony's PSX CD's are.
I didn't think you could purchase blank 'black coated' CD-R's?
Anyone has any idea how this is possible?

I've seen black backed blank CDR's at Future Shop (best buy).

Oh yeah, Southamerica is the paradise of PSX pirate CDīs, here in Argentina itīs the KINGDOM instead of Uruguay. You found whatever you want, for example: Winning Eleven with argentinian teams :P

oh those damn black bootleg discs have been around for YEARS. there's a couple of ebay sellers who've made a f***ing MINT selling illegal copies of ranma 1/2, sailor moon, and dragon ball games as originals, and they've been getting away with it for ages... >:(

Memorex makes black cd-r. You should be able to find them at Bewst Buy, that's wehre I got mine.
Since these are pirates, do you need a modded console to play them?

No, you donīt need a modded console, well...here in my country you donīt need, i donīt know in USA (i think itīs the same)

i doubt it- just recording a psx game to any blank cd (black or not) won't make it play in a non-modified system.
from some of the complaints i've read, the suckers who bought the copied games (which sometimes went for over 50 bucks a pop) had trouble playing them without a modded console (or one of those game wizard devices), but the sellers got off by saying that the folks complaining didn't read the auction description carefully enough...

I think the reason those pirate cd's work down there is because the console they sell are already modded. I got PSOne down there and it plays copied games.
