We've all had it happen, you talk to someone at work about eBay & before you know it - they're wanting you to list their stuff for them.

This isn't a close friend to me (otherwise I'd do it free), so how much would you guys charge? A percentage? A flat fee?

I would let him/her cover the listing fees. I wouldnt charge anything for it. Its not like theres alot of work putting (depends on the auction tho..) out an auction.

20-30% is pretty standard.

I disagree. Unless it's a close friend of family member your time is and reputation is worth something. Besides, if the buyer claims he didn't receive it or if there's some other kind of problem the seller, not the owner you're selling for will be responsible. That service is worth something. How much it's worth I can't say though. I've never listed for another person.

Depends on the deal and person. Ive listed stuff for people and charge 50% where I have to pay fees though.

Then done 25% and they pay fees.

Also depends on how much stuff there is. ETC.

that isoldit ebay store charges 30% or a minimum of $5 plus fees.

20-25% plus fees is fair for listing an item or two for someone.

20% - 25% + fees. May be negotiable depending on what they want and how much time you're going to put into the auction.

companies doing this usually charge 20-40% and that's what you should aim for too, i'd say 20-25%.

@jajaja

putting ebay auctions up is NOT a lot of work??? are you kidding me, please show me one of your auctions and i think i'll understand why. Any good formatted auction with descriptive text and good pictures TAKES time to create, even with tools to help you

Hydr0x: notice the "(depends)" i wrote ;)

I sold things on Ebay before, never used more than max 10 min. to list. If you list for another person you must have some relation to her/him, its not like a complete stranger contact you on the street and ask if you can list something.

I recently fixed a PC for a friend of my mom, i dont know her friend, first time I met her when she came with the PC. I did get payed, but I never asked for it. I would have fixed it for free anyway, but thats just me. I dont see it as much work to make an auction. It can take 30 min yes, but I can spare that for free.

I've only done it once and got 10% of the final price, which worked out pretty well since it made over £300 :)
20-25% seems a tad high to me, but if the other person is happy, then why not?

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. He keeps asking me how much I'll charge and I had no idea what was fair.

I have two young kids, so my spare time is very valuable - so I just can't see doing it for free. I think I'll go with 15-20%.

Sounds good to me. I listed two Powerbooks for a friend and netted about $1600. I charged him 10%. After ebay fees, paypal fees, and a slight underestimation on shipping I ended up making about $40. Not worth it at all.

I'm going 20% from now on.

My coworker asked to sell used games & movies. I offered to create an account & help him list game #1 --- then he could sell his own games. He said 'never mind'

Lazy.

I get alot of people at work asking me to put stuff up on ebay, but they never really follow through. But I would charge them some kind of percentage, most likely 20%

I've bought/sold stuff off ebay for friends and family, and don't charge them anything, they just have to pay the fees.

i do it for 1 friend of mine, i do charge him 5% (plus any fees) if he was not a good friend of mine, i would NOT be doing it. just not worth my time. and i have little free time anyway.

Yeah, if it's a high dollar item, then it may be more negotiable... but if I'm selling stuff that's worth $25-40, then I want more than 10% cause it's simply not worth my time otherwise.

I have seen a bunch of "we sell your stuff on ebay stores" which charge between 25-40%.
