So I decided to Mod a PS2 controller. I updated it with some LEDS. 2 deep blue/purple ones that say on and 2 sky blue ones that flash when I get hit everytime playing a fighting game. Brings new meaning to the term "Hit Sparks"

I got different colors:
Purple
White
Blue
Green
I can get Red, Amber and whatever else you need.
Here's one I did with White Power LEDS:

PM me if you want me to mod your controller.
Nice, I like it.
I totally suck at fighting games. The lights would be flashing so much I'd be afraid that my competition would get a seizure from it.... Hey maybe then I could win for a change!!

Ya. My bro doesn't know what I did so I hooked it up to his PS2 and waiting to see what happens when he plays CvS2 tonight when he gets home.
The deep blue LEDS are only 5 candle but the sky blue ones are 10 candle so its bright.

Very nice. I think I may due that to my blue one since its starting to go so I won't feel bad about breaking it if I mess up.

That is very nice 8-)
How long did it take you to make?

Looks good. I wish I could solder, because I would probably do that to my Xbox controller.

Under 10 minutes. It's really simple. The power leds are hooked up to a ground and a constant 5v on the back of the board.

That looks damned cool. I should do something like that with a PS2 controller.

I made another one this morning with all white 15 candle LEDS, man that is super bright.
My brother and I just finished a Cvs2 game session, man its really cool at night when your getting hit because it matches with the hit sparks on the TV.
Another cool thing we noticed was when he was playing RE4 and using a machine gun it would flash with it. Basically any game that supports the vibration function will work with it.
Killzone session was really cool. 8-)

If you could post a quick FAQ on what leeds go where I am sure you will have these guys tearing apart their controllers and soldering LEDs in them in no time.
:-P
Wadda you say?

Very nice, extremely sexy. I have to learn how to do that kind of stuff sometime.

I will post a DIY for it when it is perfected. I need to install some resistors in line since it turns out the 5v or the milliamps is a little much for the hit flash LEDS to handle. I will check with my electrian friend and then post it.

What was your brother's first reaction to it?

He loves it, he brought it to his friends house and now they want me to mods theirs.

ok I re did it and used a resistor inline and it works great now. With the resistor inline the lifeline for the LEDS will be A LOT longer. I will post the pics of where to tap on the board when I get home.

that looks really cool.
i don't know if you would be interested, but if i shipped you my controller and covered shipping, parts, and labor would you perform an operation on my controller?

Sorry to bring up such an old thread.
I'm really interested in modding a PS One dual shock. It's a translucent blue one I've had for year. It would look sharp with some blue lights.
Where are the solder points? Did you take pics of the process? Would it be any different doing a PSOne dual shock as opposed to a ps2?
I did an xbox controller (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=83042) awhile back - turned out pretty good. :)

I'm assuming they're the same as the rumble motor solder points.

For the hit flash yes, and also you need to add a 100 ohm resistor inline on the positive wire, if you dont the LEDs will brun out after a couple days since it pushes out 5v and the ideal range is between 3.6-3.8v which 100 ohms brings it down to.

Just bumping this as people are still asking me about this.

it doesn't really matter which lead you attach the resistor to, as long as it's in series with the LED.
I've been meaning to do a similar mod since I originally saw this thread way back when, but my PSX stuff has been packed away until recently.
I was thinking of using red leds for the 'strong' motor and green or blue for the 'weak' motor.
I'm also contemplating wiring up some op-amps and band-pass filters to the audio output on my PSX and using them to make an audio driven led light-mod for the console (it has a transparent shell). The effect would be different colored leds lighting up in response to different pitches of sound.
I'd also be interested in making memory card access leds, but I'm not sure how hard that would be.
If I ever get off my ass and do all these mods, I'll have one tacky, seisure-inducing PSX.

Nice! I've always wanted to have a PS2 DualShock 2 that matches the red lights I have on my PS2 horizontal stand. Do you have instructions on how to mod these controllers? Or is there a way I can send one out to you to mod? Also, your sig has a url for a NGPC front light DIY guide, but that website is no longer available. You still have any info on the NGPC front light? Thanks.

I can mod it for you, it's actually pretty simple though, I'll try to see if I can get the pics online.
For the NGPC front light I will check the website.

Just an Update to this old thread. For those that want to make these I now find that using a 220ohm resistor is even better for the longevity of the led. Still very bright with the 220ohm resistor.
