Hey everybody,
A while ago, I made three characters out of Lego which seemed to have spawned some sort of Lego building craze around here.
After seeing other peoples creations, I never saw any Yoshi's. So I wondered; What's with that? Is it to hard or something.
Either way, I was up for the challange (if it was a challenge).
I spent most of my day today looking at various Yoshi pictures and eventually made something out of them.
Here's what I got:

I really didn't know what to do about the colors. I was experimenting with just green and white, but I realized that it wouldn't be enough of a contrast, so I had to add some yella in there.
Complete with egg and all.

Now he sits proudly among my other creations:

Your move, boatofcar ;)

While I always love this and wish I were capable of doing them, this is probably my least favorite out of the bunch, just because to correctly do it there needs to be a lot of different 'pixels' that is hard to replicate in real life. It just dosn't look 'right' to me, but I still love the idea behind them (I think I've seen megaman before, that was sweet)

My fiancee, who loves Yoshi more than almost anything, heartily approves. As do I. Good show, sir.

Very cool. :) Toad doesn't seem so pleased to have Yoshi's tongue in his face, though, hehe.

The Yoshi looks really good, and so do the others. I copied your Mario (without the ears and tail) and Toad, and I made a goomba based off the sprite from the original SMB.

I want to make a Mega Man really bad, I just need a some more blocks for it that I don't have.

Wow, that takes some talent. All of the figures above look great.

I agree with you. This one actually took me the longest to create. The real hard part was the fact that I couldn't actually find an 8-bit Yoshi picture where he was just standing on his side. Either way, I think it looks good enough to put on my shelf ;)

Very cool...

I have a bunch of lego's somewhere in storage, I should take them all apart and make a few of these characters... but I'm lazy

I know I'm trying to steal your guys' ideas, but are there directions on how to make these? They're pretty cool. I'd also like to know if there's a specific Lego set I'd need to get for the colors and stuff.

DO you all just do this free handed, or is there a method for getting them to look so darn good.

I can kind of see what is going on, but I would not know where to start. I guess I should have played with legos more as a child...

I have got to make some of these. I have a ton of legos, I just have to find them. I want to see a Samus Aran to, that would rule. I think the Mario with the raccon tail is the best by far, but they all rock. Great idea man, I am going to theive it.

I took the Mario design off of somebody on the internet. He's a member here but I can't remember his name. He had the Mario built, and all you have to do is go line-by-line the same way that it is built in the picture. It takes a long time, but in the end, its worth it. Just don't get frustrated.

Luigi was based on Mario, so that was easy.

Toad was incredibly hard. I took an 8-bit sprte of him and tested out colors and pieces until they worked. I am glad to see that other people have been building Toads cause I know that they all stem from my origional design.

Yoshi was the hardest one I've ever done. I had to do the same thing with Toad, but this time there was no 8-bit sprite to go by. Just some 3 dimensional pictures of him.

I want to do Samus but I couldn't find a good sprite.

my question is: where in the world do you find the perfect color legos to do this? All the legos in the store arnt like the original ones.

I played with Lego a lot when I was a kid. I have a couple tubs worth of assorted colors and shapes. It was all a matter of finding them in those tubs for me.
I would be making a hell of a lot more characters if I had more pieces. I'm currently completely out of black, yellow and red. :(
