Hooray for digging up old posts!

UPDATE:

I could have sent in my brand new xbox because of the problem described below, but I decided to live with it. Word of advice: SEND IT IN NO MATTER THE PROBLEM IF IT'S UNDER WARRANTY! A week or two after these problems, I stored my xbox and didn't play it or even hook it up for about a month. Then, yesterday, I dug the thing out and set it up to try out Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 2. And... it wouldn't even turn on. It's not the power cord (it works w/ other systems), it's not the outlet, so now I'm boned with a 6 month old xbox that is utterly worthless and 3 months out of warranty. I took great care of this damn thing and what do I get? An quote of $80 dollars from customer support.

Sorry for the rant. I know I'm out of warranty, but does anyone know of any way I could get this thing fixed by them for a more reasonable price? I just want it fixed, but I'm afraid it I get it repaired by someone other than Microsoft, they will fix the power but not the problem I wrote about below (which is probably related to the no power problem) and it'll just crash and burn again. Should I bite the bullet, send it in to Microsoft and buy an extra warranty for a total of about $120? Should I just not worry and get it repaired locally? Or should I just put money toward a 360? Thanks for reading and any input, everyone.
Take care.

Since I suck at formalities...
I got a brand new Xbox for X-mas, and it has worked just fine until I started playing Thief: Deadly Shadows. Every once in awhile when the controller vibrates, the vibration won't stop at all! So I was all like "I'll just replug the controller" not knowing that the game would freeze as soon as I attempted to do so. So then I was all like "well vibration = something I can live without" so I turn it off. Lo and behold when vibration is supposed to happen the sound simply cuts off. Although I haven't tried replugging the AV cords, I was already a little peeved as is.
However, what got me is that when I went to play Deus Ex: Invisible War instead, the same glitch would happen. Is it simply because the games were both developed by the same company? Or is it the Xbox itself?
I didn't mean this thread to sound like a complain-fest. I'm more than happy playing through all the other games on the Xbox, and I just wondered if anyone else experienced the same problems and knew a way to fix em'
Thanks for the help guys!

Try another game, if it still happens with lets say Halo: CE then yes its your XBOX.

It's a new one to me... I would think that's a glitch in the game, or perhaps the controller itself. Any chance of borrowing a controller from a friend? Maybe yours has a short in it. There would have to be something seriously wrong with the xbox electrical components for that to be a hardware issue, i would think if it were the xbox itself, the console wouldn't boot.

Thanks for the interest, by the way.
It seems like the problem happens regardless of the controller. I haven't tried any of the other ports simply because the two games that have problems are single player.
The vibration function worked just fine when I played Half-Life 2 and Halo, but as soon as I pop in one of those Eidos games...
This makes me think it's something to do with the newest model of Xbox and how the vibration function was programmed. Are there any other Eidos/Ion Storm games I could try, maybe even multiplayer ones? THanks again for all the help!

You could try Hitman, I suppose. Project Snowblind? I don't know if it's Ion Storm, but it's a kind of successor to Deus Ex.

My Xbox has been a lemon from day one. While it was under warranty, I got the dvd drive and video card replaced, but the new drive failed soon after the warranty expired. The whole thing just has that old pick-up truck feel to it. Weird stuff happens like the audio suddenly screwing up in Judge Dredd even when I deleted the profile, although it worked fine when I first started playing. On a few occasions, the tray just decided to open up on its own. Stuff like that. This is why I'm not getting a 360 until I'm confident of its reliability.

That is really wierd. I wonder if it is the same with new Eidos games.
