As I brought up earlier
Crystalis (do not know if you can call one game a series though...)
also...
Lufia
Strider
Punch Out
Ecco
Kid Icarus
By the way a new 2d mario is coming out for the DS, and it is looking quite promising at the moment. (even going to have co-op play.

aside from Shenmue 3... which I would love to see, I would love to have
a phantasy star 5
Dragon warrior
A new Golden Axe
Afterburner 360.... sweeeet
Kid Icarus on the gamecube/revolution
Chrono Trigger/Cross Sequel
Killer Instinct on a next gen console.
pilotwings
I can't believe a Pilotwings game has not been made for the Gamecube. It was a nice tradition to have Pilotwings at every Nintendo launch. :(

Is there any series or single game you wish they would make sequels to?
Mr Do
Ultima if they'd do it right
Wizardry (2D like they used to be)

Another vote for Crystalis for the best series that never was. They could have had a real nice series if they ever threw some sequels out there. Instead all we got was a rehashed GBC port (which wasn't as bad as everyone tries to make it out to be! I just hated the new intro)
Ditto for Nights, Battle for Olympus, and Clash at Demonhead :(
I really miss the Golgo 13 series. The NES games were extremely awesome but it seems to kinda faded into obscurity anymore. There's been a few arcade lightgun games, but nothing on the home front :(
Little Big Adventure is another balls-out-classic series that needs to be revived (please god, let the announcement of LBA3 happen this year).
System Shock is a great series not enough people played and needs to make a revival. Let's hope Bioshock does it right, though I'm not opposed to EA contracting System Shock 3 out to a good development team (it just won't be the same without Irrational, though).
Crusader: No .... is another classic. Action game of the year in 1995 and then suddenly forgotten as soon as Win95 became the OS of choice. At least there were some console ports of No Remorse, even if they weren't all that hot :( Both games are still a blast to play right now and it saddens me that No Mercy never got off the ground.
How about X-Com? While the new UFO:whatever games have tried to emulate the awesomeness of the first X-Com, nothing's ever really come close. Hell, even X-Com 2 couldn't compare to the first one and it STILL kicked ass. Shame the FPS got canned and the most recent game we got was Enforcer.
God, the 90s were so great for PC gamers :(
jajaja

Police Quest (not couting the SWAT serie)
Monkey Island (I know Monkey Island 4 isnt that old, but dont think there are any Monkey Island 5 in production atm :()
Leisure Suit Larry (know there is a new Larry game, but I dont was Larry in lousy 3d)
A Punch-Out 2 for NES would also be great :)

My friends and I talk about this all the time, the franchise games that I really miss because they either totally changed game style or never had a sequel.
Battletoads
TMNT: The Arcade Game
Rock'n'Roll Racing
Outlander
Super DodgeBall
Super Adventure Island
Super Punch Out
Wrestlemania 2000
I'd also have to agree with continuing to make SNES style Final Fantasy games, with the memory that the new consoles have or even Gameboy SP or DS you could continue the stories from all the original Final Fantasy games and add on things that make game play and game length increase.

You know what series I miss? The freaking Mario series. I'm talking about:
Super Mario Bros.
Super Mario Bros. 2
Super Mario Bros. 3
Super Mario World
Super Mario 64
What the hell happened to that series? Super Mario World for Super Nintendo is one of my all time favorite games, if not my most favorite game period. Super Mario 64 was a dream in 1996 when I first played it. It hasn't aged as well as Super Mario World pr Super Mario Bros. 3, but it's still one of the greatest games ever.
Don't even mention that other Mario game. You know, that abomination that was on the GameCube. That crap was horrible.
Where, or where? Did my Mario go?

I miss Double Dragon. The series was one of the best of the best, but sadly it just sort of withered away.

Gargoyle's Quest :(

Act Raiser. Man, I absolutely loved this game. Despite not liking the second one as much, I'd still enjoy seeing a sequel to this brilliant game.
Super Punch-Out!!. I also enjoyed Mike Tyson's Punch Out, because of the difficulty. I'd really enjoy seeing a sequel to this great boxing game.
Chrono Trigger/Chrono Cross My favorite RPG series, the Chrono series, definetly deserves a game to follow them up. I was looking forward to seeing Chrono Break, but it looks like I'll never see that game. :/
I can't believe that there is no mention of WONDERBOY! I spent a majority of my childhood convincing of the greatness of this series.

X-Com: UFO Defense / Enemy Unknown

I'd also give a vote for Valis, but I'd be waaay too picky about it. They'd have to do it right, and I wouldn't have much faith in that. Especially if they planned a US release.
But otherwise, I think some good properties to expand on are
Golden Axe series (I didn't enjoy GA3 very much)
Lords of Thunder
Strider
Wing of Madoola (Ever heard of that one?)
Arkista's Ring
Maniac Mansion
Capcom's Dungeons & Dragons arcade games
Salamander

Mario Sunshine? Never played it. Hell, I don't even identify much with Mario 64- but it's a good question, what ever happend to Super Mario Bros.?
Wasn't "Paper Mario Bros." or whatever the last 2D run, jump, hit the "?" blocks mario game?

Above I talked about the Super Mario Series, which personally, I think had it's last good game with Super Mario 64 way back in September of 1996, but I did forget a game that I would love to see a sequel to.....
KID CHAMELEON
one of the most underrated games of all time.

Even though I'm largely opposed to a long running series, Colony Wars [PS] really could use a modern conversion. 3 wasn't enough, and Red Sun kind of blew.

Bust a Groove (Move)
Tomba!
Power Stone

A couple that haven't been mentioned....
Mutant League series..... sports games with humor and violence! YAY!
Sub-Terrania series( fine, it was only one game :P ).... because we need more shooters that take place underground!
King's Quest Series..... A modern version would be awesome.
Disney Magical Quest/Genesis Mickey games.... Pure plataforming bliss
And finally.....
DUCKTALES SERIES
One of the best games of all times.
Also a bunch of others
