Look at that picture, I bet they were all put on credit cards. It would be funny if he couldn't make a quick buck off them.

i have had no problem finding 360's
i bought mine on launch day, a week later picked up a core for a friend, found 2 premiums a week or so ago and another core last night.
they are out there just have to get to them before everyone else does. :)

Actually, I was starting to think that any shortages were due to all the magazines/stores/whatever that were giving them away...

the CC by me was/are hiding core systems in the mangers office. if you ask them they will deny it, then after threatening to call corperate on why they are not on the shelves they gave it up, twice. they still have 7 of them.

Our Best Buy has them in the manager's office. Apparently you are "supposed to ask" the video game associate if they have any.

yeah i assumed thats how it went. my friend called for me she was checking stores on sunday when the receptionist told her there were 9. so i drove out there asked the game guy he laughed and told me no, i said some woman said that there were 9, he checked and was dumbfounded to find the 9 in the managers office. he was pissed that he hadn't been able to get one himself since they didn't have any. so blah it went on from there.

someone asked me to pick them one up dotay and i had to persuade them to give me one, all diffrent people, still had them in the managers office, still telling people on the floor asking(me) that there were NONE.

All these stories of 360's being hidden from consumers. I just don't get it. Really. My mind can't comprehend. It's just weird.

Yeah, I'm confused too. I thought the whole point of stocking the systems is so that they could sell them. Kind of hard to sell when they are locked up in an office in the back of the store where nobody can see them (especially employes).

If they are worried about people stealing them, wouldn't they just keep the systems locked up in the case in the games section instead? Doesn't make any sense.

Have you ever noticed the amout of Games, Controllers, Memory cards, Addapters, Etc there are in the stores, compared to the number of Game units? My quess is they know people are just running around to different stores trying to find one, if they had them on the floor people would grab one ( if not all like this guy) and run for the register never selling any Extras.
Try this for an experment.
Go to CC, pick up a copy of each game for the 360, 3 extra controllers, the Wi-Fi addapter, 4 charge and play kits, anything else you can carry.
Then walk up the the sales person and ask if they have any 360's in stock.

Cause people can still get into the cases, even if they are locked. 3 guys got into ours at work one night, but all they stole was an Xbox.

I don't get why they are claiming a shortage... I thought they'd want to sell as many as they could to make as much money as they could.. *shrug*

Edit: SlayerX, Read the following:

He has a LOT of 360s there...

The real reasons, though, are:

The first run was more like a test run.

Microsoft knows what they are doing.

Microsoft started them in every country they could.

Trust me. Those are the reasons. And in that order.

Perhaps they are expecting Microsoft to quietly replace the units they have on hand with ones that are not liable to overheat?

That is what I think too. I mean Mountain Dew gave away so many Xbox 360s. If there had been no contest, there would obviously be a ton more available.

Test run or no, I think that they should at least advertise that they do have the 360 in stock.

I am personally not shopping for one, but even still. My toys r us near me used to do this thing with video games where you grab a slip of paper and then take the slip of paper to the clerk and they go get the game or system for you. They could do the same here, but have a manager do it or something.

I could care less if it was a test run, it was microsoft who put it out, so they should have to deal with it if they put out a bunch of crappy, overheating systems for launch (not a rant, just speaking the truth). The stores should not be the ones resposible for all these systems messing up, it should go back to microsoft.

I live in omaha, and my friend is looking for a 360, and he asks all the time, he has even asked if there are any in back, so so far, nobody will say anything.

it is not cc's job to keep messed up systems away from people that want to buy them, it is the job of microsoft to rerelease the system or push more of that messed up system out to get all these people to stop going crazy over them.

if there is no shortage, than it is about time for companies to start stocking their shelves, even if they do it old school toys r us style with tags you have to take to the front to get an employee to snag your 360

It was what, 12,000 360's across all of NA given away? You break it down and thats not even one more per store, that doesn't help anything.

I don't understand how those last two are "reasons". They're just statements at best, the first clearly being more of an assumption, the latter being a rather obvious fact considering their "global launch" premise. I suspect if Microsoft knew what they were doing there wouldn't be this drawn out shortage. It's gotten past the point of "gotta have it" cachet item to, "ah, screw it, I'll just wait for Sony". Or Nintendo, for that matter.
