I think I'm closest to the 'Hard Core' gamer, but it doesn't match me completely. And I kinda resent their thing about marriage...I don't think that's accurate at all.

I don't like the word "GAMER". You wouldn't call someone that collector movies a "MOVIER" would you?

Devoted gamer for me. Always play shmups, but time to time play something else.

I don't play games much at all, which would classify me as a casual gamer. OTOH, I don't just buy or play shovelware as implied in the essay. I just don't have the time or interest for MMORPGs or anything else that contains the letters RPG, but those genres don't define the words "innovative" or "genre-defying" in my book. The games industry has its work cut out for them when it comes to captivating people who don't care much for elves and ogres running around in forests.

The funny thing is, one of these categories defines my roomate to a T, clueless gamer. He is quick to pull out the gameshark or action replay just because he is having difficulty in a game, either that or he will just stop playing it altogether.

Me, I guess I would be a hardcore gamer. They described me pretty well. I have some friends that will smoke me in a few random games (those guys are definately devoted to super smash bros and madden), but I know if we got 5 random games from my collection, even if they were games I don't play very often, I would light them up.

As for knowledge about games, sure I know a buttload, but I don't go around acting like I do. If somebody asks me a question about something that has to do with gaming, I will answer it, but I will never go off bragging about how much I know about games.

I loved the article, but I think there should be a new category: the "devoted game collector". Sometimes I don't have time to play games regularly. So I just collect, and play games during school breaks.

Well that is all I have to say. Err.. yeah.

I would have to agree the most here, I collect more than I play for sure, although I can't say that I'm a "hardcore" gamer because I also spend alot of time collecting and watching movies.

I think I'm some wre between PHC and Casual, as far as gaming goes. Collecting is another story...

Oh, and btw, "Timmies" are'nt all that bad; It just depends on what there doing (for example, If a group of people are modifying an old game to release the hack online just for the fun of it, then they're probably nice guys; whereas if a person steals the beta of a soon to be released game and makes an X-amount of copies of it for profit, then he's usually the type of guy that you'd want to stay-away from.)

I don't like the word "GAMER".

You're going to have a rough time here, then.

I'm definitely a clueless gamer. If a game's controls are overly complex, I'll just give up and move to some other game. That may be why I like old games so much :)

Of course I'm the Worthless type.

Hmm, article seems a bit self-congratulatory. A bit too hard on people who play Solitare, for example. If somebody doesn't want to try out new things, well, that's really their perogative...

With 1400+ games, hard to believe it, but I am absolutely a casual gamer. It's just something to do when I'm not playing board games. :)

I'm somewhere between PHC and Casual gamer. I definetly used to be "hardcore" when I was younger........before the intervention LOL

Without even looking at the article (just glancing at some of the comments) I would guess I'm a casual gamer and have no problem with that. I certainly don't play games as much as I used to.

On the other hand I might be quite the hardcore DVDer :D

I think you mean "movier".

According to that article, I'm probably a casual gamer.

None of those really worked for me. I guess I have a bit of "Devoted Gamer" in me, but the object of my affection changes frequently.

I've never cared enough about the business end of the industry to be considered "Hard Core," but I am somewhat knowledgable in a multitude of systems and genres. Does that make me "Pretend Hard Core?"

Where's the "Just likes to play fucking games and never throws shit out" section?

From what I read, I dont see myself being any of them.

Lemme see, I spent my afternoon in front of a Vectrex with a video camera rolling.

I think that makes me a hardcore casual gamer. And quite possibly clueless too. :P

Clueless gamer. I'm playin' an Odyssey2. Don't get much more clueless than that.

What the frig is a Timmie?

I was wondering that myself....

Clueless for me too. I wouldn't even know how to work an XBox, but then again, put a CX-40 in my hand, and I'll do just fine.

Oh well, at least my son thinks I'm cool. LOL

I'm between Hard Core and Devoted. though I dont like MMORPGS all that much. I can only get about 30 hours of game time in a week and MMORPGS Require all of it. I like to play other games to LOL

my thoughts exactly. I could be classified as devoted, PHC, casual, or clueless.

If I find a game I love, I'll devote a few months to it. For example conker's on n64 right now.

Now conkers is not a long game, but I can only fit in a couple hours a week, and I DO have other hobbies and things in my life, does that make me a casual gamer?

also, I enjoy learning about the history of companies and industry and the products, but I don't really know a ton (although sometimes I would like to think I do) so I guess that makes me a PHC gamer.

I suppose I would also classify myself as a clueless gamer. I have my bad days when I yell at the tv over control frustration. I also enjoy easy to pick up and play games, but mostly cuz of my limited amount of time to play each week. but I do like long gameplay games.

I feel like I fall best into a collector category, probably something like Hardcore Collector Devoted Gamer. I love playing games and I definately have sunk a large amount of time into every genre, including MMORPGs, I spend the bulk of my free time adding new beauties to my collection. Hell, I'm debating buying a house for the sole purpose of expanding my game room, *and adding an arcade*, just don't tell the woman that.

Well I guess I'm mildly hardcore. I can remember release dates for games years after they came out.

Not enough time to be hard core but not causal either. Maybe devoted I play a kof once a day and used to be damn well addicted to WC3.

I'd say I'm a devoted gamer who knows a good amount of the subject matter.

ummm unfortunately Im in the "hardcore" category although I have had some very cute and intelligent girlfriends in the past and I do have two children and had a five year relationship with my ex GF I am now very deep into the pitiful existence that is a hardcore gamer :sob:

Oh well at least its a peaceful existence if a bit mundane at times.

bah this is just stupid, seriously, they totally forget a few types, what's up with me, just as an example?? i am definately not a devoted gamer, i play everything. i'm also not an casual gamer, i know and own far too much stuff for that. But on the other hand, i'm in a long-term relationship and my love for gaming never influenced my social or working life....

I don't like the categories and their definitions...I don't fit in any one category, and from reading other posts it seems as though not many people do. Maybe time for a rewrite of the article ;)

I'm a cross between Pretend Hardcore and casual. I don't try to convince anyone that I know anything about games, but most casual gamers think I know everything. I don't mean to give that impression, but I've been gaming for a long time and keep up with stuff. However, I don't take playing games all that seriously and there isn't a single game in which I dominate unless you count Electronic Stratego. In that I remain undefeated for more than twenty years.

I'm boring, nothing more than a casual gamer. I'll be devoted to a game to successfully beat it a few times ( even RPG's if they are good ) but then when something new comes along I'm all about the new game. Resident Evil ( insert remarks here ) games are the ones I enjoy the most though. I commend anyone who can retain the knowledge to be HC because I'm lucky on somedays if I remember where I parked my car, much less release dates for games 10 yrs ago.

I struggle to place myself in here as well. There are lacks of definitions for each type and feels like it's a quickly thrown together article. Although a few of my friends easily fit some, not nearly accurate enough.

Personally, I'm a slow and small collector. I've been collecting for almost 3yrs and almost have 400 games on 14 consules. According to the scarcity guide most of my games are quite common, and that's something I don't mind. I don't buy sports titles (only take free ones), get games that I played younger that I know are fun to play, or random games I've never heard of that sound interesting. But although I own these games and love them, I still generally pour my time into PC games or Anime. Personally I'm a future game programmer (Wrote fun stuff in high school that peers loved, but put it on hold while I'm in college) and love to just play with tech gear, so games just fall under something I like to have resources of and can play if I ever want to pop it in, rather than load up a ROM that doesn't have the gameplay control I want.

But truely, I'd say I'm a mixed hardcore and devoted gamer. When I get hooked on a game, I spend every minute I can on it even if I've beaten it, like Diablo2 on b.net. I'd sit for hours leveling on the hardcore ladder, and end up dying around level93 (which takes at least 500hrs), and start over again... *sigh*. But I do happen to play games on a daily basis and love them. :)
