i dont pay more than 50 bucks for a game... ever.

and if i did it would be a stadium events or something id just sell.

Unless that game is Ikaruga for the Japanese Dreamcast --then you can pay up to sixty bucks.

It may seem ridiculous for a Neo-Geo title to clear $2000, but the game probably cost about $350 to begin with, so it's no less of an exponential increase than, say, a Stadium Events cart going for six times its original price.

Ditto what Sothy said. (though I usually limit myself to $20 for a game)

I think it is the NWC that had the highest price for any game cart. But I can fix that. Starting now I am going to buy every SQ:WW game that appears on eBay (no matter the bid amount, I will buy it. Then I'll destroy every cart save for just one. Instant rarity. :D

Didn't a Neo Geo Cart that was rumored to have only 13 made carts sell on Ebay for $13,000? I think it was a fighter, manufactured only in France.

Thought I'd bump up this old thread. I'm interested in what people might know now.

Well...This might have happened before this original post was made...but that 13,000$ game was a European version of Kizuna Encounter for the AES.

Cool, so that would make it the highest ammount spent on a game right? Crazy. I guess if I was a millionare and I collected Neo Geo and needed that one cart to complete my collection, I'd dish it out. But the very ideo of spending that much for a game boggles my mind.

8-) I had a really great E-Bay auction awhile back and decided to make 2 rather expensive purchases:Battlesphere Gold $160 and change and Steel Battalion for the X-Box $200.Beyond that a couple of $70 Telegame carts for the Jag have been the only pricey games that I have purchased.

I've always thought that it was Kizuna Encounter for the AES that had sold for the most amount of money, but I don't particularilly follow this.
As far as people paying that much money for games, I don't see anything wrong with it at all. If somebody wants it (and especially if they need it to complete a collection) I think people should buy what they want. Personally, I've spent between $500 and $1000 on a few games and I have no regrets.

Yep, the last Euro Kizuna went for $12,500. Crazy. Especially as the only difference between the Japanese $550 version is the insert, sticker and manual.

Then there's also Euro Ultimate 11, which goes for about $8000, and Dogtag Metal Slug at about $2500+.

Pretty sure that was kind of a joke listing.
In fact I think it was a lsiting by a member of this board (Buy Atari maybe??).

Anyway IIRC it was listed because Ebay had a $1 listing day or something, but the cart never sold.

It was listed for $10k but never sold for that much (if we're talking about the same listing.)

For cartridges Kizuma encounter nails it really. I Overstated it now....

Hey, It's a hard to find game for a difficult to come by system for many (price wise) So, enjoy!

For biggest percentage of increase, that's SMB/DH, For a game that can be found for 10 cents and ebay grannies selling them for the magic number of 12.50.

And if you ask me, Air raid I believe, will either stay at that area or go up. I seriously don't see it going down anytime soon. But then again, it's all about who's the biggest fanatic about the games.

The value of Air Raid dropped after evidence that it may in fact be just a on overseas bootleg cart. This happened to the Beagle Bros games too. It won't break any new price records.

well fyi the 12k offer came from somebody who's bailed on 1k deals... (per disc w/another member here, buyer was set to purch. a sealed aero fighters for 1200 after much posting about how bad he wanted it.. and then bailed) not saying it was or wasn't legit but I think a grain of salt may be necessary given the person in question.. if you can't pull the trigger at 1200 your credibility at 12000 is diminished..

Megadrive Tetris was reported at $10,000 in a private sale. That's spendy. Only 4 complete copies exist (with inst.), and considering the bootleg from Taiwan or HK or whatever is available that's kind of unbelievable.

I heard about one supposedly selling for 900,000 Yen, but it was from a somewhat dubious source.
Most I've heard from a confirmed sale was about 320,000 Yen, though it probably has gone higher privately.

Also, I've been told by a pretty reliable source that the bootlegs do not include the exact same game - they have a different version of Tetris. The official ones are based on the System16 coin-op, and were ported by Sanritsu (under license from Sega), while the boots are developed by Pageantsoft.

Most contest carts were never sold and are given away for free. Much cheaper than 10 cents. In truth to buy SMB/DK you had to purchase a system at $100+ to get it. While the gold NWC might have cost you a stamp and the NWC cost you no more than your time.

Not really a particular game but there was an auction a while back on ebay by a seller called Ling Jr with a collection of hardcore/rare stuff that had a BIN of $100,000. I'm sure nobody bid. The stuff was a lot too so if you won the auction you still had to cover the enormous amount of shipping afterwards. Just thought I'd share this as that was an impressive auction of stuff. :eek 2:

It didn't sell as far as I know. If I remember it had a lot of systems. Like one I don't know what exactly it was but the system was part of the TV (on top), it looked like (kind of like a VCR/DVD and a TV in one). And other brand new stuff. But it was a while back and a good deal of the stuff I didn't even know what they were so I can't really say everything that was in it.

I know personally the guy who paid 10500€ ( about $12600 ) for Kizuna Encounter on March 2003, i got Ultimate 11 from him too...he got KE from an austrian guy,and met him peronally for the deal.

Many guys would have paid that much for it, and he has beaten them all because he was "nearer" to the seller than US collectors, and was able to meet him personally and pay in cash.

About MD Tetris,i saw it for sale in a japanese shop for 250000 Yens...so paying 900000 is just stupid :)

Any advice on it from collectors?

Problem is there are only about 8 of these known to exist. If you buy one that means one of these guys has to sell it. I can't speak for all the owners but most I know won't sell in that range esp those that paid that much. A couple of the other owners emailed me after the 12k offer was posted on ebay and not one of them said that they would take the offer. With all the hype the past few years I don't think you can get one for that esp if you are contacting sellers not ready to sell yet.

Not to say that if someone needs cash and starts the bidding low AND no one wants it more happens to have the cash that week you couldn't get one aka the Captain Falcon ebay sale. But thats just luck.

There are at least 26 out there according to most updated info I got from collectors.
90 silver and 26 gold.

Infact,it is pretty much correct to think whoever got the gold cart kept it since it was a prize or sold it to another collector.
So,if you refer to known owners in this message boards,I agree but the seller I located is not even a member here, just to say one and I wanted to get a "realistic" quote for it.

sivarto
04-30-2006, 04:30 AM
Also,I understand some owners want to try to speculate and get the double of the money they paid.
But then again, actual sales of the cart on ebay were never ever that high and just in the ball park of $4000-5000.

Put in simple terms:you can probably get someone to pay $10000 or more for it but if you buy at that price,it is totally unlikely you will get your money back, especially if you put it on ebay for real market price for it.

And,as a final concern, when the chips inside the cart get faulty,I'm not sure the price won't be affected by that.

I am very suprised at this. I know of a couple of people at least who would grab this without a second thought at 250,000 Yen. I think that was probably the bargain of the year there .. and given that it hasn't cropped up on eBay I would imagine that got snapped up sharpish by some collector.

It doesn't matter that some question the offer. FYI The buyer was willing to send 1/3 deposit via paypal that day. But even if he never paid thats not the point. Whats important to note is that I tried to find one for sale in the 4-7k range you speak of so I could make a few bucks AND still keep my NWC and I could not. If I would have found another for sale in this ballpark I'd have accepted the deal. Wether the buyer would have been able to come up with share of the money I don't know. However, after I turned the deal down the owners I spoke to wouldn't even sell for 12k.

The going rate could very well be 4k but no one will sell at the going rate. Many of the owners would by a second at that going rate. You will have to pay much more than the going rate if you want to pry it out of one of the curent owners hands.

Unless someone has to dump quick to raise cash for an emergency. IF that happens expect more competition than ever from all the others who have been waiting a year or more for one of these to pop up.

But hey prove me wrong. If you can pay 4k (what I paid back in 2002) for a gold NWC today then you will make me a believer.
