Ever buy some consoles off of ebay or some other place and they look like they wernt really taken care of and have some kind of material on them or in them. Ive had a few and once i get them i take them apart, take all the computer chips out and run the case thru the diswasher to make them look pretty clean. Then i get some rubbing alcohol and clean all the dust off the circuit boards and put it all back together. So what do you do,do you leave it like it is as long as it works or do you clean it well?

I keep them dusted and clean, but I don't dgo to the extreme that you do. The again, when they sit behind galss in the entertainment unit, they don't get that dirty.

I am extremely anal about my collection. If and when I find stuff in the wild, i will not touch any of it until it is sparkling clean. Like when I find Atari 2600 carts, I bust our the Q-Tips and Alcholol. I won't be puttin' a dirty cart in a super clean system. Once I found a NES for $5, took it home, thankfully, I opted to open it up and found a bunch of dead bugs and icky stuff. After cleaning it, the system was like new and worked perfectly. How a fly got in there to begin with, I have no idea...

I dust them. That's as far as I go.

I completely take my consoles and games apart (if I can) and clean them inside and out. It's funny how much more $$ you can get for a used system when it's not covered in poo. Or, if I’m keeping them they look nicer sitting on the shelf.

I also clean all my games with alcohol and Q-Tips.

i wipe them down with this cleaner protectant stuff i got from the detail supplier called Miracle Mist...works good for plastics and keeps them from corroding

I clean a used console once--the day I get it. Since I don't buy consoles as often as most people, I'm not systematic about the process. I'm very thorough, though.

From the topic title, I thought you were asking if we routinely clean our consoles.

When I can, I always disassemble my console (and perhipherals) down to their bare components and clean them rigourously.

Regular dusting also occurs once a fortnight or so.

i dont clean anything unless for some reason im moving the console, for instance when i was putting my DC & SNES back into the closet after having them out for a couple years i cleaned them, aslo i cleaned my xbox when i brought it back home after college. other than that i dont specifically go to my consoles and say "i think ill clean my psx today".

so i voted 'sort of'

Heck yes I do! If it's cheap I buy most anything. I always disassemble them (systems, controllers, games),if possible and clean them good. It does take time but well worth it IMO.Besides it's fun to see the insides. I also dust the ones I currently play weekly.

I dust my consoles off every one or two months. I'm not the sort of person who methodically and regularly tidies up.

I bought a Megadrive which wasn't working, so I opened it up (not that I knew what I was doing) and there was a big hairball and a few woodlice in it. It ended up working on it's own and I traded it in for an £8 profit.

I clean them hardcore. For instance, I got an NES toaster from the thrift shop (I like to rescue them). First thing I did was take it apart and put the plastics into the dishwasher. Then removed the 72 pin connector and cleaned it with moisture-free aerosol electronics cleaner. Then cleaned the mobo & all connectors with the cleaner. Took the plastics out of the dishwasher & touched them up with alcohol & witch hazel, put it back together & it looked brand new. The only problem was that the dishwasher got the FCC ID sticker started peeling. I dont put the bottom part in the dishwasher anymore.

One reason I do it is I like for my systems to look as cool as they did when they were the new thing. Second reason is I remember my cousin getting bean dip on my genesis controller when I was a kid & it still freaks me out to think about it. I dont know why but that is such a disgusting memory. Anyway...I dont like other peoples dirt.

I even shine my systems with Armorall, plastic wax or Windex...depending on the system. I want to preserve that fresh look you find when you remove a system from its box for the first time. I enjoy my games more when my system looks cool instead of an outdated piece of yesteryear. I guess I respect the system more when it looks good. Im not like that with the carpet or anything (my wife handles those things). Just my games, lawnmower and my car. I love my games. I love this hobby. Im glad I found DP.

"Sort of"
If "Sort of" means blowing into the slots whenever it looks dirty. ;)

i had to choose sort of becasue there werent more options

i rigorously clean my stuff once i get it - so clean it can be used as an implant

then i clean them when i use them - and when im doing a cleaning - other wise i try to keep everything in a plastic bag or under some kind of cover

Quoted for Truth.

I usually dust my consoles reguarlly, and occasionally will take items apart to clean if I notice they're getting bad. Friends must wash their hands before playing with my controllers.

I clean most things I get. Es[ecially controllers. You've all seen a controller after a good run of gaming. Theres this mudd crap on it and oil a sweat every were. I don't like the thought of having someone elses dry sweat and skin dirty on me.

Everything I own right now is cleaned thoroughly. All stickers and residues removed, contacts cleaned, surface areas also cleaned. Pretty much everything I have looks almost new except for some labels on carts that were faded or scratched.

Dust? Sometimes.

Clean them when i first bring them home (used stuff only)? Always.

Who knows how bad the previous owner kept the system that is now in my possession.

Why do you say that?

Nope! Now here's why. It requires cleaning. Cleaning is an activity that I do not enjoy in adition to the fact that it takes away from something very near and dear to my heart. Game time. If I cleaned every speck of dirt off my systems, I'd never have time to actualy enjoy the things. Just look at my old NES. It looks like a kid wiped a PB&J sandwich all over it, yet it works just fine! Plus, it smells like strawberry perserves. True, its a bit sticky to the touch (dear god, dont let a tissue land on it) but with a lil blowing and lil effort, every game works like a charm.

Wait.
Your being serious arnt you?

Your kidding me right?
You honestly believe a single one of us would allow our systems to not only become dirty but also to remain so? That is a bit odd. Actualy I take apart every system I own that isnt CD based (still scared of the CD systems) because even if its not dirty, I want to know what the insides look like, even if its just once. I like to look at the shiny conectors where the carts plug in. Look at how it was made, see where everything is. Where the power button pushes into, what the otherside of the controler port looks like. I like to see whats inside.

I clean the outside with a cloth and water. Same goes with games.
