Apparently this came out earlier this week...anyone pick it up yet?

I've heard it's sort of a hybrid between 5 and Special, with the balance tweaks of the latter, but since I don't have it myself yet I couldn't say for sure. One thing is for certain though-I want to give Sankuro a test drive :P

Does anyone know if this coming out for PS2 or what? I know there was a Japanese PS2 release. I think I remember seeing the "Only on Xbox" logo on the cover...doesn't look good for U.S. PS2 owners.

Yeah, the "Only on Xbox" thing is on it. There have been a few things that got that logo only to have it become untrue later on, though.

SoA passed on it for the PS2 just like Neo Geo Battle Coliseum. You're not going to see it on the PS2 on this side of the ocean.

Got it yesterday, only played 1p a bit. Seems like a good port to me, controls are great.

Manual says the boss characters from SSVS are unlockable.

Haven't played online yet.

So, when is microsoft gonna but Playmore/SNK up?

Sorry so OT, but it is SNK Playmore/SoA related.

It is a bit of a crime that Neo Geo Battle Colosseum is being left on the other side of the Pacific, but honestly, they can keep KOF NeoWave. It is a lazy rehash of Capcom proportions, maybe even more so. Not worth the cash at all. At least Battle Colosseum is something new, abeit ever so slightly.

SNK Playmore really needs to redraw all of the KOF sprites in high res, or at least to Street Fighter III animation standards. The Maximum Impact games don't count. Maybe KOF just needs to take a break? Just my two cents.

As for Sam Sho V, I had no idea that was coming. Good news. Any word on KoF '94 ReBout? Need that one to "complete" my KoF port collection.

Don't waste your time. If you consider NeoWave a lazy rehash(and it's not, as there was some notable additions to the game) then you'll be disappointed with Rebout, which is KOF 94 with team edit and higher resolution.

Also, aside from Neowave, all the SNK atomiswave games have been in high res-Battle Colosseum, KOF 11, Samurai Shodown Tenka, Metal Slug 6, even Rebout. I found the graphics in NGBC to be great, fluidly animated, and at a good resolution. I don't expect to see SF3 animation due to the cost, but this did damn well.

As for what Battle Colosseum is, it's a fighting game by SNK that came out in 2005. Sony America turned down a US release of the PS2 port, but there's talk of it coming out on the 360.

As for Samurai Shodown V working on the 360, no clue. I don't think so, though.

Oh, I have them both and agree that Battle Colosseum is very, very cool. They should have done the mash-up a long time ago. I also really do like NeoWave, but mostly because I love KOF. I am looking forward to ReBout so I can have a version of '94, despite any thought of how "dated" it may be. The series just really needs some new blood to justify its continued existence outside of being something for the "hardcore" to have as their little secret.

The issue I have with them both is that the sprites lack the clarity of something like the Guilty Gear series. The Atomiswave SNK Playmore fighters look like the PS2 versions of KOF '00, '01, '02 & '03. That is, 1999 Neo Geo sprites fighting in front of 2006 3D backdrops that are made to look hand-drawn. Don't get me wrong. I like this a whole lot and the newer games look much better in terms of integrating the backgrounds and sprites than say KOF Dream Match '99 on the Dreamcast. I think I am just finally beginning to have a problem with seeing the KOF character sprites from several years ago fighting with each other in front of spruced up backdrops. I understand that the KOF games do not make a killing in terms of revenue and cannot justify long, expensive development times, but please SNK Playmore, take a break and blow us all away next time. The KOF games are becoming like late-period albums from bands like the Rolling Stones; Still cool for fans, but totally lacking in relevance.

I admit that what I am wishing for might totally ruin the aesthetic of the series as the Neo Geo fighters all have a certain look about them due to the color depth of the sprites, but we are at the point, hardware wise, where the in-game sprites should look as crisp and sharp as the pre- and post-bout art.

(Sorry for posting some absolutely KILLER run-on sentences!)

Both titles are worth getting on the cheap, at least they are some games that will work well with an arcade stick. Long live the Xbox, as it is offically dead at retail.
