Nintendo (and Sega) definitely contributed to my sedentary lifestyle when I was younger. Of course, while video games may have helped me get fat, they helped me lose the weight too. Multi-hour DDR sessions will make anyone lose weight -- I lost nearly 80 pounds over the course of a year that way. :)

what is DDR?

Mom: "Remember kids, play too much Nintendo, and you'll end up looking like Jared."

Kids: "AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!"

And they run screaming for the door to play outside.

That's ridiculous. I personally don't think that playing video games causes any form of sedentary lifestyle. However, I am speaking from personal experience, not the experiences of others.
I played a hell of a lot of games when I was a kid, and I don't think I could of ended up like some fat guy who ate a lot of bad food.
Kids spend 6 hours sitting in a classroom at school, wouldn't that count as part of a sedentary lifestyle?

I'm going to hazard a guess and say that it was actually food that made Jared fat. Just a guess.

"I usually had one hand on the controller and one in a bag of chips,"

This is a NO NO! I never did this as this would cause my controllers to become all grimy and greasy. To this day I make everyone(myself included) wash their hands before using my controllers. Of note, food is not allowed anywhere near my gaming area. Only beverages in a sealed container are allowed in my room of doom.

what's the difference between playing a few hours and watching TV all evening? saying gaming made him fat has as much credibility as him saying how subway made him lose all the weight

Sitting on his ass and eating alot made him fat, playing games and watching TV are just what he did to keep himself occupied while he sat on his butt stuffing his face.

Subway is what he ate while he *got off* his ass and worked out.

Laziness made him fat.

Jared's full of himself, I've gamed since the Atari days and I've never gained weight from sitting around playing videogames, hell I was too active to do so. Of course having active thyroid glands also contributes to my being thinner, also as was said Ms. Jarred was pretty dumb eating around his videogame system and controllers.

Perhaps he got fat eating his Nintendo and games. @_@

just him whining IMO.

Subway's Jared blames his former weight gain on his Nintendo. His 300-pound chocolate Nintendo.

When I was young, both my parents told me that playing too much NES was going to wreck my eyes. They both have classes as do I now. I'm pretty sure it's just genetics and has nothing to do with plaing the system :)

If you have a frontloader with a bad contactor, you can get some aerobic workout by quickly pushing the cart in and out about 100 times until it works :)

Jarred was fat because he could not stop stuffing his face with crap. Nintendo had nothing to do with it. Didn't he ever, I dunno, go outside to play when he was a kid? Nintendo has nothing on a good game of hide and go seek at night.

Excactly! Damn I hate fat people that blame there weight on medicine, genetically or company's. 99% those people have no self control and eat (crap) whatever they want whenever they like. God I really hate those people.

Genetics do come into play to a certain degree, but of course you can't rely on it as an only reason.

Of course we all know, Jared made Jared fat. And at some point, Jared made Jared thin. Now, Jared makes his living by crediting either one or the other on things other than Jared.

Ignore Jared.

Yes I know that for some people it is the reason, but if you would believe everyone who said that noone is fat because there eating habbits.
Most people that really have a genetic problem are looking better then people who got it from eating. They try to eat healthy and you see that, that are the people I respect.

The thing that gets me is that Jared said that when he started gaining weight (because of that 300-pound Nintendo system) his dad "started to get worried." Didn't he try to DO anything about it?

Sounds like some bad parenting to me. When kids are that age, I would think that the parents would have a good lot of control over what the kids eat and not eat. He could get some stuff on his own, sure, like at school or the walk home; but then he'd be getting at least a LITTLE workout time.

It's his own damn fault that he gained weight, that former fatass. And just to go against the guy, I get myself a sandwich that I use to try to gain weight: a very salty, very fatty sandwich.

:D

What NOW, used-to-be-fatboy? LOL

Well we all know that Jared was actually made thin because he had Aid(e)s. Now, he wants to help us all get thin by using his fortune to give us all Aid(e)s as well.

I thought I posted this before but...

In Jared's defense, he doesn't say it was the Nintendo as much as it was the fact that he overinduldged in it. Anything is bad if you do too much of it, whether it be playing games or even working out. If he says he overindulged in his NES, he's not blaming Nintendo. He's blaming himself.

I have no problem with it.

And I hate thin people that automatically assume that because it's easy for them to be thin, it must be just as easy for everyone else.

I live a healthier lifestyle than almost anyone I know. I only eat about 1700 calories per day. I eat mostly white rice, vegetable, and pasta. I lift weights and do an hour of cardiovascular activity every day. I'm overweight. It's not a direct correlation. Sorry to blow your world view.

I agree that I do not like lazy fat-A people that sit around and do nothing but complain about their weight while shoving a bunch of crap in their mouths, and I also agree with WiseSalesman. Some of us are tying to do something about it, but we have, in fact, inherted it (sometimes, like me) and there may be other problems with a person that can affect how easy or hard it is for them to loose weight (medications I believe were mentioned earlier, my parents and some docs tell me that they gave me some meds before I could remember, while I was 4 or 5, that actualy did have such negative effects on me, I dont remember so I dont care and I cant confirm, just saying that it is in fact possible) (or slow metabolisms I hear can cause the body to hold too much fat in) and I too work out with walks, jogs, DDR, and more every day for at least 1-1.5 hours and I try to eat healthier, but I still am almost 260 lbs. I work on it and try, and I truly to God believe that it helps my health, but my weight is taking a long time to work off, and I am not doing some stupid diet again that causes you to gain all that you worked over a year to get rid of back within less than 2 weeks (I tried Atkins one time, lost like 80+ pounds, my family stoped atkins, I started to slack a bit and gained some weight rapidly, and then when I totally gave up, I got over 50 lbs back in just about 2 weeks!!! No large eating or over eating, my body just started hording those carbs again).

Dont judge a book by its cover. Many people look at us a thing 'lazy-fat-bastard', 'stupid-fat-ass', and more, and while even I admit to knowing those types of people, not all fat people fall into that catagory.

Oh, and I hate how God teases us by showing us 120 lb guys that eat McDonalds and crap constantly without working out or anything but have such a fast metabolism that they never gain a single pound. (my older bro for example is this kind of person). I dont hate the guys, but I constantly wonder, why, why oh God why? Seems kinda crule sometimes.

If you ask me, it's not much better (if it is). I've had a lot of trouble keeping my weight up enough that I felt healthy. 5'8" and 200 lb. might be overweight (I'm guessing at the weight here), but being 5'8" and 115 lb or so (where I've been before) isn't any better.

Plus, be happy that you have a little insulation, I freeze my ass off when the temperature lowers beyond 75 degrees F. I get cold just THINKING about it! LOL

Havent you ever just felt the urge to scratch yourself, pick at your own feet a bit, and then go play a game? Its amazing how great a good footrubbing feels before picking up an nes controler. Specialy when you do it in front of others, then offer them the controler you just used.

Now that that's out of the way....

My NES had nothing to do with me being the way that I am. My inability to eat good foods combined with my fear of the outside world contributed to my state. The NES was simply a means to kill time. Now, on the otherhand, it could have been the 2600. That system was evil with its overly simple graphics, yet all to difficult chalenge.
