I've kept up with the Gamecube library even though I haven't been able to do the DP Gamecube guide here anymore, but I never gave much thought to all of the console bundles released for the Cube.

I've searched the DP site, and have seen many different threads with bits of information, but I don't think they're complete, and it's kind of tough to piece all of them together.

SO, with the Cube entering what will probably be the "silver" age of it's lifecycle, I wanted to get a single thread going with a comprehensive listing of the console releases for the three major markets, as well as some other neat tidbits related to the hardware.

I am hoping to get some confirmation about these as well as fill in any missing holes (again, I don't know that I have them all...)

Pictures of the bundles in their boxes, as well as the pack-in games are GREATLY appreciated.

CONSOLE RELEASES:

Again, this is all of the information that I could gather from other threads and bits and pieces here and there.

ANY information, corrections, etc is encouraged and very much appreciated.

Last thing - for the life of me, I cannot seem to find any of these for sale anywhere (excluding the regular consoles, the Pokemon XD, and Mario Party bundles, which can be found easily.)

If anyone has recommendations on where to obtain these, that info is much appreciated - please PM me, rather than wasting space in this thread.

Please only offer VERIFIED information, as I'd prefer not to encourage rumored releases. Thanks in advance to everyone who can contribute to this list.

The Gamecube I bought back in 2003 was an Indigo system w/ Zelda Collectors Edition Pack-in game. Don't have the box and such anymore though :/ The pack in game came with other system colors as well. I remember Black and Platinum along with the Indigo. Hope this helps out :)

I think the later cube models without the digital port on the back should get a separate listing. I think the Indigo didn't see a version without it, but I know at least the black one did.

Not too sure if the Platinum ones are available without the digital port (If they are, then the second Mario Kart DD bundle is the most likely)

To my knowledge, the Pearl White ones have only (As yet) been available as part of the Mario Smash Football bundles. Have no idea if Nintendo intend on rereleasing them again as part of another bundle, or on their own alongside the Indigo and Black models

The Gamecube bundle I picked up in February 2003 contined:

Indigo Gamecube System w/ 1 indigo controller
Super Mario Sunshine
59 block memory card

It has a Super Mario Sunshine sticker attached to the front advertising the free game and memory card. This was during the time when GC was still $150, but you could get a free game (I picked RE0).

Super Mario Strikers Super Pack (white console w/Super Mario Strikers packin)

seeing as I live in Canada, I thought I would go buy this bundle, how-ever, I asked the monkeys behind the counter and they have only sold black or silver Mario Strikers bundles.

(I still might buy one, they are only $129 CND)

Thank you to everyone who has added some information so far.

I've added what's new or of better information than I had before.

One thing that I wanted to note. I know that the early versions of the consoles had the component output port, and now they don't.

However, this thread is mostly about the system bundles, special systems, controllers and jewel-plates that you can get for the Gamecube in the major markets. Whether they have the port or not doesn't add much interest.

Keep it coming folks - I really appreciate it.

Now, if I could only find some of these... :eek 2:

Thanks,

EUROPE

Spice system (limited; rumored to 2,000 units)

SPICE PAL??? this would be news to me, all i know of is a limited run of Tales of Symphonia MINT bundles only released in france...

Limited Edition Platinum system

huh?? a platinum system without games?!? can't remember that one but i could definately be wrong here

Metroid: Prime Pak (NOT the same as the US pak! Released prior to US version, this pak included a special Metroid jewel plate and a "Not For Resale" copy of the game. Colored console variations unconfirmed.)

no color variations, only released in black

Mario Kart DD Limited Edition Pak (Contained a special two disc version of Mario Kart DD, with the second disc being the Zelda Collector's Edition disc inside the Mario Kart case (Case was black instead of the more common red, and marked "Not For Resale".) Colored console variations unconfirmed.)

in fact, the red mk case is not the more common one, the black one is (most retail copies were black afaik, and mine is too). i'm pretty sure the pak was released with red case mk too. also pretty sure this LE was released with black +indigo systems

Zelda: Wind Waker Limited Edition Pak (Original release contained a platinum console; later available (due to public demand) only in Black and Indigo. Pack-in w/copy of Wind Waker PLUS the OOT Master disc (game included is virtually the same as the standard LE copy of Wind Waker, but comes in a black case instead of gold, and marked "Not For Resale".)

some wrong info in there, the original platinum LE 100% came with Zelda in a gold case, i own it and bought it new. not sure if the indigo/black bundles came with a gold or black zelda

Tales Of Symphonia Limited Edition Pak (Very limited; extremely rare. Mint green console, controller; Tales of Symphonia pack-in.)

as i said above, limited to France

Mario Smash Football Pak (pearl white console w/pearl white controller; Mario Smash Football "Strikers" pack-in)

most likely a not for resale copy of Mario Smash Football

Mario Sunshine (inc. Memory Card 251) w/sticker on the box
Zelda Windwaker without bonus disc
Mario Kart DD and Winnie the Pooh (just a sticker added on the Mario Kart DD pack)
Pokemon Colosseum Mega Pack

never heard of those, if they exist they might be store exclusives

Hey there Hydrox - thanks for the info. I'm relying on the European contingent here for this information, as I'm obviously disadvantaged by living in the US (you guys would simply have better info.)

I got most of this info from a poster earlier in the thread. I would think that the releases in Germany and the UK would be the same, but I'm relying on y'all for that kind of info (I always thought that the release was "EUROPE", rather than by country anyway.)

So, if some of this information for the EUROPE section is conflicting, I'm wondering if you and Gemini-Phoenix can confer here to see what's what.

EUROPE

Spice system (limited; rumored to 2,000 units)

SPICE PAL??? this would be news to me, all i know of is a limited run of Tales of Symphonia MINT bundles only released in france...

I originally had thought that the 2000 or so Spice consoles were released in Japan ONLY, but then Gemini-Phoenix posted that they were in EUROPE as well. Since I had no reason to doubt that, I listed it. Is it not correct?

If there are no confirmed Spice PAL consoles, I'll gladly remove it from the list.

Limited Edition Platinum system

huh?? a platinum system without games?!? can't remember that one but i could definitely be wrong here

I know that here in the US, the Platinum system was released without games. Was there no similar release in EUROPE, or did all the Platinum consoles have a pack-in?

Metroid: Prime Pak (NOT the same as the US pak! Released prior to US version, this pak included a special Metroid jewel plate and a "Not For Resale" copy of the game. Colored console variations unconfirmed.)

no color variations, only released in black

Excellent info - I'll update that on the list.

Can you confirm?

Zelda: Wind Waker Limited Edition Pak (Original release contained a platinum console; later available (due to public demand) only in Black and Indigo. Pack-in w/copy of Wind Waker PLUS the OOT Master disc (game included is virtually the same as the standard LE copy of Wind Waker, but comes in a black case instead of gold, and marked "Not For Resale".)

some wrong info in there, the original platinum LE 100% came with Zelda in a gold case, i own it and bought it new. not sure if the indigo/black bundles came with a gold or black zelda

Hmm. I'll list as you have it, since you've confirmed; and leave the unconfirmed for the black/indigo console paks.

Tales Of Symphonia Limited Edition Pak (Very limited; extremely rare. Mint green console, controller; Tales of Symphonia pack-in.)

as i said above, limited to France

That is bizarre! I can't imagine what about the French market would dictate release there only...

I WANT ONE!!

Mario Smash Football Pak (pearl white console w/pearl white controller; Mario Smash Football "Strikers" pack-in)

most likely a not for resale copy of Mario Smash Football

Probably so.

Mario Sunshine (inc. Memory Card 251) w/sticker on the box
Zelda Windwaker without bonus disc
Mario Kart DD and Winnie the Pooh (just a sticker added on the Mario Kart DD pack)
Pokemon Colosseum Mega Pack

never heard of those, if they exist they might be store exclusives[/quote]

Cool - thanks!

Confirmation is what I'm looking for, so if you can help confirm some of these, that would be great.

LASTLY:

Is there a Mario Party Pak release in EUROPE?

Thanks,

Orri-

Gemini-Phoenix

Well I have or have had most of these PAL bundles.

Mario Kart DD was originally released in a red case. Later reissues were in a black case. The two disc version (With Zelda: CE), however, which is only available inside the Mario Kart DD Pak, was only available in a black case.

The two disc version of Mario Kart DD is indeed much rarer than the other versions, and only available as part of the Mario Kart DD Pak. The second Mario Kart DD PAk included just a one disc NFR version of the game, WITHOUT the Zelda: CE bonus disc.

The Spice coloured PAL system was (As I mentioned) only available in the first week of launch to people who were lucky enough to be first in line to pre-order the console. Exact numbers are unknown, but I know they were definitely available as my mate had the choice, but stupidly chose black instead. D'oh.

But, as I have no proof of their existence, it shall have to remain as "Unconfirmed" for the time being.

As for the Platinum consoles (And the Pearl White ones) ~ These were indeed part of bundles, and not available separately... BUT... The bundles come with slip-on cardboard covers, and are easially removed. These consoles are widely available brand new for purchase on eBay separately, without any games.

The packaging for all GameCube's is virtually the same, except in the case of the Resident Evil one, which has had a custom package made specifically. All the rest have slip-on covers, meaning the consoles are able to be sold separately.

As for Zelda: WW ~ If the bundle you have has a gold case, then chances are it has been substituted at some point (Perhaps in store). Either that, or there may have been a regional distribution anomaly or something, as the bundle I bought has a black case, not gold, but is identical to the retail copy of the 2 disc version of the game.

When all the Platinum bundles were all sold out, Nintendo wanted to keep up with demand, so then released teh same bundle, but with either a black or indigo coloured console instead. This bundle was also rereleased at a later date I believe.

EDIT: I was mistaken. Just checked my own copy and does not have "Not For Resale" printed on it. It is indeed in a black 2 disc case though, perhaps to differenciate between the retail version

I also suspected that the Tales Of Symphonia Cube was limited to only France, but didn't want to commit myself into saying so. As Hydrox has also mentioned it, I will second it.

The pack-in Mario Smash Football game is indeed a "Not For Resale" copy.

I can confirm the existence of the Mario Smash Football Pearl White Cube Pak; The Resident Evil 4 Pak; The original Mario Kart DD Pak (With Zelda: CE disc); Pokemon Colosseum Pak (With bonus Pokemon Box disc); And Platinum Cube Zelda: WW Pak, as I own / have owned all of these

I also bidded on the Mint Tales Of Symphonia Pak on eBay a few months back, but lost out. It ended up selling for over Ł200, so that gives you an idea of how rare it actually is.

I can confirm Super Mario Sunshine as the first US bundle. I distinctly remember seeing it with a sticker on it that said "game and memory card included!", the box might have also been a little bigger then normal, but then again maybe not.

Mario Kart DD was originally released in a red case. Later reissues were in a black case.

this is just not true, bought mine on launch day, black case

The two disc version (With Zelda: CE), however, which is only available inside the Mario Kart DD Pak, was only available in a black case.

i'm still pretty sure i already saw red case two-disc versions on ebay

The two disc version of Mario Kart DD is indeed much rarer than the other versions, and only available as part of the Mario Kart DD Pak.

above you didn't say the two-disc version was rarer (which is obvious) but you said the BLACK 1-disc was rarer than the red one (or the other way around? can't remember)

The Spice coloured PAL system was (As I mentioned) only available in the first week of launch to people who were lucky enough to be first in line to pre-order the console. Exact numbers are unknown, but I know they were definitely available as my mate had the choice, but stupidly chose black instead. D'oh.

oh, so your source is a mate?!?! please, give us some real source...

As for the Platinum consoles (And the Pearl White ones) ~ These were indeed part of bundles, and not available separately... BUT... The bundles come with slip-on cardboard covers, and are easially removed. These consoles are widely available brand new for purchase on eBay separately, without any games.

great, so you listed the platinum w/o games as edition just because ebay sellers are buying bundles and re-selling the stuff seperately? omg

The packaging for all GameCube's is virtually the same, except in the case of the Resident Evil one, which has had a custom package made specifically. All the rest have slip-on covers, meaning the consoles are able to be sold separately.

yeah, but selling them seperately does not make that one an official edition.....

As for Zelda: WW ~ If the bundle you have has a gold case, then chances are it has been substituted at some point (Perhaps in store).

yeah, sure, whatever you say.... dude, why don't you try to use your brain, this was a brand new, "sealed" bundle sold in a big store chain, do you really think they have nothing better to do than exchange the game cases inside of bundles and do all of this in a way that you can't see it... yeah sure (and btw, they had no black case zeldas for sale, so with what did they exchange it?!?)

Either that, or there may have been a regional distribution anomaly or something, as the bundle I bought has a black case, not gold, but is identical to the retail copy of the 2 disc version of the game.

did you get yours from the launch shipping?? was yours "sealed"? if not, you might think about doubting yours instead of mines (but yeah, regional variations are a possibility of course)

When all the Platinum bundles were all sold out, Nintendo wanted to keep up with demand, so then released the same bundle, but with either a black or indigo coloured console instead. This bundle was also rereleased at a later date I believe.

it had nothing to do with "keeping up with demand", i bet 1000 meseta that it always was Nintendos plan to first sell a limited run with platinum systems and then sell black/indigo bundles if the initial run was successfull

EDIT: I was mistaken. Just checked my own copy and does not have "Not For Resale" printed on it. It is indeed in a black 2 disc case though, perhaps to differenciate between the retail version

hahahaha, so like i said, YOU are the one who got the wrong case with your bundle, it would be Not for Resale if it was the right one...

Mario Kart DD was originally released in a red case. Later reissues were in a black case.

this is just not true, bought mine on launch day, black case

Sorry if I wasn't clear. I meant the red case ones are the retail versions, which is what I meant by "originally released". The pack-in version is indeed the black case, as is the pack-in version of Zelda: WW

As the 2 disc cases are specially made, I would doubt there are any red cases out there with the extra disc section. As far as I know, all 2 disc games are in black cases, with the exception of Zelda: WW which is gold.

There are four versions of Mario Kart DD. The one disc red case (Retail version); Black case 2 disc pack-in; Black case 1 disc (Reissue); And the Player's Choice version

And yes, I listed the Platinum Cube as it is technically available to buy singularly. There is nothing on the packaging that implies that the console has got to be sold with a game, therefore the Pearl White and Platinum consoles should be classed as separate listings.

Just because a game shop doesn't sell it like that, you can still obtain a sealed console on it's own from other online sources, so I think it SHOULD count. Only exceptions (As I said above) should be the Resi 4 one and the Donkey Konga one, where the packaging is different and contains the game as part of the bundle.

As for Zelda ~ The stores put the games in the bundles and then double seal them. The games and consoles are shipped to GAME or wherever separately, and the store then has to finish off the work. I would guess that someone had just slipped in the wrong version of the game, perhaps if the black case version was perhaps damaged...

And yes, I get all my special editions and LE bundles on launch day. And (Stupid question) of course mine were sealed.

Q: Does your one say Not For resale on it? As far as I know, it is something that Nintendo have only been doing recently... Ie, DDR: Mario Mix, Donkey Konga; Pokemon Colosseum; Mario Smash Football Etc have it on the cover, yet a few earlier pack-in games do not. My Mario Kart DD simply has a sticker on the front stating that the Zelda disc is not intended for sale separately

Mario Kart DD was originally released in a red case. Later reissues were in a black case.

this is just not true, bought mine on launch day, black case

Sorry if I wasn't clear. I meant the red case ones are the retail versions, which is what I meant by "originally released". The pack-in version is indeed the black case, as is the pack-in version of Zelda: WW

dude, why don't you try to understand what i say. i bought the normal retail version of mario kart on launch day (NOT the bundle) and it came in a black case

As the 2 disc cases are specially made, I would doubt there are any red cases out there with the extra disc section.

like i said, pretty sure i've seen them on ebay

There are four versions of Mario Kart DD. The one disc red case (Retail version); Black case 2 disc pack-in; Black case 1 disc (Reissue); And the Player's Choice version

like i said, there also was a standard black case 1-disc retail version

And yes, I listed the Platinum Cube as it is technically available to buy singularly. There is nothing on the packaging that implies that the console has got to be sold with a game, therefore the Pearl White and Platinum consoles should be classed as separate listings.

NO THEY SHOULD NOT, nintendo does not ship them like that, if i rebundle a snes together with super mario kart just because the box doesn't state anything about which (or if a) game is included that does not make it an official release... especially YOU with your obsession for sealed stuff should understand this, and if you think there's no difference between a platinum taken out of a bundle and a normal edition you are wrong, you should be able to spot where the e original slipcover was attached

no, this is just utter bullshit....

no, not true, i work at a store and all bundles arrive BUNDLED, please stop making up things

I would guess that someone had just slipped in the wrong version of the game, perhaps if the black case version was perhaps damaged...

in your case, not in mine, the zelda pack was sold with gold case zeldas in germany, please stop doubting it...

then it's likely just a regional variation

no, nintendo has been doing this at least since the SNES days...

Well must be a regional variation then, seeing as you are in Germany and I am in the UK... It's not unheard of for the German market to get variations that differ from everyone else.

One thing I noticed is that after the second Mario Kart DD bundle, there seemed to be a lot of NFR versions being sold in stores (Which is actually illegal) ~ I reckon the bundles didn't sell as well as expected (After the tragic price drop of the GameCube), so the remainder of the games were then sold separately.

And yes, I listed the Platinum Cube as it is technically available to buy singularly. There is nothing on the packaging that implies that the console has got to be sold with a game, therefore the Pearl White and Platinum consoles should be classed as separate listings.

But if a shop like GameStation chose to do this, then that would be the same thing. And no one said anything about adding a game to a package.

The fact of the matter is, the Pearl White and Platinum Cube's are available separately, with everything that is advertised on the front of the packaging. There is nothing on the box that states that it should be sold as a bundle.

And the slip covers are not attached. Ie, a bulk standard Indigo or Black Cube which may have been part of the second Wind Waker bundle comes in the exact same box as if you bought it as a standalone console. It then has a cardboard sleeve slipped over it, and the store will then insert the required game. Most times the store will add a second set of Nintendo endorsed circular stickers, but not always. ~ If they so wished, they could quite easially remove the game and cover, and sell the console as a standalone.

I know this as I have worked in a game store where this was common practice. So, when the card sleeve is removed from the Mario Smash Football bundle, you are left with a bulk standard console which can be sold separately.

As for Zelda ~ The stores put the games in the bundles and then double seal them. The games and consoles are shipped to GAME or wherever separately, and the store then has to finish off the work.

no, not true, i work at a store and all bundles arrive BUNDLED, please stop making up things

As I explained above, things may be different in Germany, but here I know for fact how things are done. I am not making it up, and I am sure that there are plenty of other people on these boards who work in UK game stores (GAME or GameStation) who can confirm what I am saying.

The bundles arrive in two separate parts. One part being the bulk standard console, and the second which will be the bundle extras along with a set of Nintendo stickers. The contents of the bundle are then checked, and "put together" and then sealed and put out for sale.

I would guess that someone had just slipped in the wrong version of the game, perhaps if the black case version was perhaps damaged...

Again, regional differences in that case. You were lucky then, and got a proper retail version in your bundle, where we got black cased versions.

So, I guess we can put a lot of things down to regional differences across Europe.

I can use a topic like this!

WOW - a much more heated discussion than I expected.

Let me put in my two cents then.

I'm interested in how they are shipped by Nintendo.

For some ODD reason, EUROPE bundles are essentially a standalone console and a game, with a silly slip cover over the two. And YES, it can be removed to sell them separately.

However, I believe that this is done for cost savings purposes by Nintendo, and as such, am only interested in what the intent was when they were distributed by the BIG N!

So, for my purposes here, if the only way you could obtain a pearl white console was in the Mario Smash Football, then that's the bundle.

I wish they didn't do the whole "slip cover thing" - they should have just spent the money and made it a full box.

Anyway, regarding the cases for the Mario Kart DD, and Zelda.

I'm only curious to know what was packed into the bundles - not what could be purchased separately at retail or used. When you bought the bundle and opened it up, what was inside?

If you are sure, let us know. If you're guessing or can't remember - no problem; I don't want to include it in the list.

Otherwise, I appreciate the effort from our European contingent here - anyone able to comment on the US, CANADA or JAPAN lists?

Can anyone confirm that the Super Mario Strikers pack was a CANADA ONLY release, or was it released in parts of the US as well? (I know about the Mario Smash Football in EUROPE.)

Thanks & keep it up!

I'd just like to brag that I found a used copy of Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, the bundled not for resale edition, complete with all inserts (the PIN number even worked on nintendo.com) AND in mint condition, for $10. It literally looked like someone just took the shrinkwrap off the game and traded it in.

What store sells a used copy of Pokemon XD for $10? O_O

My local hastings had a sale, which the manager decided would be a good idea. Any used games for $10, any used movies or books $5. It lasted for: one day. I snagged a bunch of loot. And by a bunch, I mean hundreds of dollars worth.

These I'm not certain about, but thought there was something...NEED CONFIRMATION

Limited Edition Platinum system (w/gameboy player; and although not packed into the box, you got a free copy of the Zelda 4-in-1 Collector's Edition)

This sounds similar to the one you described, only it also had the demo disc with Soul Calibur II in addition to Zelda, and both were packed inside the carton:

Got it from Walmart.com for $99.00 in 2003...and if I recall correctly this was the first CAG deal I got in on. Good thing I never throw these photos away. Nice work here orrimarrko, amazing list!

WOW!!!

As usual Rich - you get SO lucky! LOL

I had remembered something like that - and although I don't think that was quite it, it's still something that I did not even know about.

Crazy Walmart and it's special sales....

I will gladly add it to the list!

Thanks again,

I was just about to post that one - I saw it for the first time at a local store the other day and was amazed I ha dnever seen it before.

I am about 90% sure that some of the 4in1 Zelda cube's had it as a pack in with a circular logo on the box.

Additionally, there is a variation on the Mario kart DD bundle where instead of the extra controller, you got a $15 GC used towards any gamecube game. I think this one was exclusive to retailers such as EB - I remember on Black Friday 04 getting the mk dd bundle, 4 swords (free 29.99 game with cube purchase and this was on sale for 29.99) and the gc went to midway arcade treasures all for $100
