Okay, someone has GOT to know how to do this.
I'm in the Slaughterhouse, East Wing. There's a room with a walkway on top, and 3 guards and an instant-death laser turret below. Yeah, THAT one. All the walkthroughs say to use the columns as cover, but none of them have any detailed descriptions beyond that. I have tried and died at least fifty times and I cannot do it. Every single time, the guards spot me. PS2 version, if that makes any difference.
Please help me, my head is raw and bloody from ripping out hair.

mh sorry long long time ago i played that
usually you have to stand behind a column to not get hit by a laser, just like with the statues in the Zelda games, if it's a rotating laser you have to "pursue" it (if it runs clockwise, you run clockwise and so on)
I acually just finished that game the other night. From what i can remember:
Drop off the walkway till you hang, wait for the 1 guard in that section to turn away, then drop down behind the box.
Note: 'Always stay crouching down' through this whole set!
Adjust your view so you can see when he turns away again. Run crouching down along to the ramp in the foreground that leads to the other side of the room. Wait there.
Watch with your view to look over the ramp and check there walk pattern. When the one closest walks to the one at the door, just before they both turn, run crouched to the far right column. Wait for the same moment and run to each next column. Keep repeating this till you get to the small box near the door. Finally wait for the guard at the door to turn away from you and skoot past him through the door............sweet.

I remember this room. It was a bitch. It will probably take you several tries, but it is absolutely possible. Wish I could be of more help, but I played through this game two years ago...

Thanks to everybody who offerred suggestions. I put the game aside for a few days because I wasn't having any fun with it, but I got back to it and was able to get through. I found if I did the roll (square button on PS2) it was faster than moving crouched and makes it a LOT easier. Thanks to everybody who pointed me toward the right path through the room.
