View Full Version : I need help clearing up a 360 rumor
My friend is selling his xbox360 to me for $250. However, I've read on many message boards that many xbox360s are making minor burns on the games. The reason I ask is because my friend does not have a recipt anymore so I would not be able to return my xbox360 if this happens. Has anyone heard about this?

I have never heard that rumor. The only thing I have heard is the 360 overheating.
If it is a premium and you can get it for $250, I would go for it.

Its true, This happens if you move the 360 while the disc is in play. Just dont move it and your fine :)

Bullshit it's true. If you move the 360 while it's running the disc will commonly rub against 2 high points on the drive and get SCRATCHED, but burned? I mean my god.

Yeah, I don't buy this rumor either. And definitely go for the deal, regardless of whether it's a premium bundle or not. It's a hell of a deal either way.

Buy it immediately and call the 1-800 4 my XBOX number. You can actually get a really good 2 year warranty from Microsoft for it for like $65. It's well worth it. Because the XBOX 360 is less than 90 days old, you can still get that warranty. Once that Xbox 360 is more than 90 days old, you can't. Just find out which store the guy got it from and what date he bought it. You don't need the receipt.

I heard a rumor from my dad recently,
He has a friend at work that claims to have "Stolen" some Xbox360's but he can't sell them (If he could he said he'd sell them for 250) because of some sort of theft protection on the 360.
apparently if a store notifies Microsoft of the 360's serial number that it has been stolen. then when the thief trys to get online it wipes out the 360 (or makes it explode and kills your family) something to that effect.

The system does scratch discs if it's moved while in use. However, if you use common sense and leave the machine in a stationary position, you'll have no problems. I just don't get how this became a big deal-moving any disc-based product lke that and you run the risk of ruining discs.
Just watch out for the family-killing explosion. @_@

Well, it does seem that the drives in 360 machines lack pads to bump the disc back on course that other drives have, but I have a feeling that over time adding in a pad could end up doing things to your disc as well. Leaving it in place should be just fine.
I guess people really went out of their way to look for problems...on the plus side this means that game consoles will be among the best-tested products in the market :D

LOL I agree but that's not necessarily a bad thing
but I doubt the 360 would scratch games unless your moving it with the game inside but as long as you use common sense it's all good.

I say you don't buy it. I thought mine would work fine because I had it since Nov 14 and it stopped working on Dec 25th. And it was a hardware failure!!!!
I am still waiting for my replacement and honestly if it doesnot comes back tomorrow morning I am filing a complain with government agency.

Now granted MS doesn't have the best support in the world, and it's no where close to the amazing level of service that Nintendo offers, but Sony is still the worst.
Not to mention that Anthony1 didn't seem to have nearly as much trouble as you have.

The rule is true for all technology, the first gen always has some bugs that need to be worked out. It doesn't matter if you're talking about a game system, a camera or a car, it's just how it is.

yea I take care of my systems very well. My launch day GC, PS2 and Xbox are still working great.
Since I won the PEPSI contest I got the system early on Nov 14. From then till Dec 25th it worked perfectly, I bought a CORE system for my friend and his system is working perfectly fine.
So its hardware failure.
As far as status is confirmed, MS sends out an email as soon as they recieve your xbox, they send you a purolator prepaid slip that you fill out and you can use that to track.
Secondly I have called them everyday since last wednesday and i still have not recied the confirmation that they got my xbox360.
Xbox360 is the first hardware to break on me,
I bought DS, PSP, PS2, DC, GC and xbox at launch and they are still working....
360 is the first to break on me and you can check out other message boards too ...

Sorry i had to laugh at that. when you look to message boards for confirmation you're really grasping. Citing Wikipedia is far more reliable.
That aside there's no offical proof that it's anything more then normal new technology growning pains and there's no offical proof that it's affect an sizeable portion of people.

Are you sure the box was addressed correctly (though I imagine it was preaddressed)? And if it never arrived like you seem to say, it's not Microsoft's fault, blame whatever carrier was delivering it.
But then again its hard to tell with your post, like the one about MS not giving you a free hd like you expected, while you never sent the old one in.

1. Through Purolator Ms got my console, how ever they(MS) havn't sent me any confirmation that they got the system.
2. I sent in my whole unit with hard drive.
Here is the email they sent me when they got the system at their repair center. This is for the first system. Nothing was sent for the second system.

It wouldn't surprise me if it were somehow Purolator's fault.
That company is so disorganized and useless that they deliver less than half of their packages successfully, and leave it to the customers to track them down.
I've had nothing but problems with them.

For a corperation of that size that's in good standing and gets tons of petty complaints like yours the BBB won't waste time with an investigation.
