View Full Version : Weekday Finds: 1/23 - 1/27

I'll start off this week's finds with a short story.

Well, a while back I picked up a complete and boxed Colecovision ADAM computer with a ton of accessories for 14 bucks. I never messed with it and the system was !@#$ING HUGE and blocking a storage unit I have, so I finally decided to get rid of it this week. Called up a gamestore in Mesa, and they said they'd be happy to take it. Not really wanting to drive to Mesa, I tried my local gamezone and asked them if they were interested. We got the heavy ass thing inside and they wanted to test it. I was a bit worried at that moment cause although it was in GREAT condition I hadn't tested it. After we hooked it up, it worked PERFECTLY. Even the tape drive and tape games work without a problem which are supposed to almost never work. They gave me 25 bucks in trade credit for it which was fine with me since I didn't want it taking up anymore room. That combined with my old trade credit got me:

Nintendo DS - Meteos (new) - 35
Nintendo DS - Metroid Pinball (new) - 35

Virtual Boy:

Mario Clash Manual
Panic Bomber Box & Manual
Red Alarm Manual
Warioland Manual

1$ each.

6 bucks total for everything.

Then I headed up the street to a brand new used game / music store and picked up:

NES - Ms Pacman Namco Version ;D! (complete) - 15

Their prices on most their current gen stuff was really reasonable save for a few titles, and their old school stuff was limited but decent. Most DC titles were 12 bucks, but I had most all of them. They even had a Shenmue Limited. The bastards at Gamezone picked up Gunbird 2, Gigawing 2 and Cannon Spike there for 12 each =*(.

I just went to a few thrift stores about an hour ago. First one I found a Tomb Raider strategy guide for 99 cents and a Calvin & Hobbes book for 69 cents. At the next store I found Phantasy Star 3 for Genesis for 3 dollars with the box. There were some common Sega CD games but I did not want them.

Looks like I'm not the only person to get Meteos this week. Here are my finds:

http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/8049/im0003446ha.th.jpg (http://img220.imageshack.us/my.php?image=im0003446ha.jpg)

Genesis games were $4 each with Cadash being the only one missing its manual

NES games were $2 each and I have to say, Whomp Em is really good!

Meteos was $30 new. So -hellvin-, how are you enjoying Meteos? This game really rocks! It's like Panel De Pon (Tetris Attack) but with the rocket twist. Touch screen was definately the way to go. Using the D-pad and buttons is too slow to do any good.

I can tell ya straight up that the Zelda LttP guide book is probably worth a good penny, much like Zelda Link's Awakening guide book. Yet, your book looks like it was very well taken care of!

I totally agree, I've always seen that zelda hint guide sell for around 15 - 60 bucks, and his is in really good condition. Guides for that game bring in some damn decent cash. I've seen majora's go for 25 - 40.

thanks for the info on the worth of these guides. I am thinking about trading them away in the near future. Keep your eyes open in the marketplace if anyone is interested. I would like to get rid of them in a lot rather than one by one.

I went to a local pawn shop tonight and got 2 advantage nes controllers. 3.00 a piece for them. I used to love those when I was a kid.

So I stopped at my local Game Crazy to see what's new the clerk said he just got in a Suikoden 1 just a little before. Didn't have the case but GC sells them for 11 bucks so what's to loose. He then mentioned that they might have another one just to see the condition (this one was fine though). I couldn't believe what I was just about to hear! Someone had traded in a Suikoden 2 as a 1! So I picked that up for 11 also!

Also today a friend of mine said last week he saw at EB a used Bookworm for GBA. I had yet to even physically see one of these yet, but I was hesitant to get it for 27.99. But when I went today they had dropped the price to 12.99! Not a bad day at all!

The Terminator: Rampage
Corridor 7 CD-ROM (ha ha)
Forsaken (PC, not N64...remember seeing that in stores)
Alone in the Dark (MacPlay) and finally...
Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo for the 3DO! Granted, kinda beat up, and this one didn't come with a slipcase or whatever, just a jewel case...still a very good price on it.

FFIV (GBA) - £13 off eBay. A bit nervous it may be a pirate but looked legit and I desperately wanted to play it.

Just check for the batch number (or what it is) on the cart. Its 2 numbers pressed into the label. Also look "into" the cart where the pins are and see if you see "NINTENDO" with white text. If these 2 things arent there its a pirate.

I went into an out of the way Game Crazy looking for some more of their price drop deals, and found out they had a number of Game Gear games, all of them 99 cents or less (maybe a holdover from that sale they had a few months ago?). I bought every non-duplicate game they had -- about 20 in all. Nothing particularly rare, but I couldn't say no to 20 Game Gear games for $14 (with MVP discount).

At the rate I'm spending money at Game Crazy these days, maybe I should just have my paychecks deposited directly into their corporate bank account.... :)

Ugh... I think I had the anti-find of the week. I went to the local Gamestop for the Buy 2, Get 1 sale. Selection was subpar to put it lightly.

I'm browsing the PS1 section and I see a sealed (but not shrinked) copy of Dragon Ball Z Final Bout. Now, I'm thinking to myself... that's rare... but I'm also thinking it's a reprint. But I figured I'd find two other games and sort it out later.

I pick up Risk Global Domination for the PS2 assuming, "Hey, it's a Risk game. How bad can it be?" and a copy of Mojo for the PS2 as well.

So I get home... I see DBZ reprints all over Ebay. I check IGN to see if Risk is supposedly any good (don't have the PS2 here right now) and see it got a 2.8 rating. :yipes: And I figure that even if Mojo is decent, it's not worth 30 bucks and 2 games I'll never touch.

All of this vaguely reminds me of December when I found Rhapsody and Persona 2 for 30 each and snapped them up. I didn't count on there being 2-3 copies of each at EVERY DAMN EB / Gamestop in central PA. :frustrated: Que sera sera.

Well I got a great find yesterday although I didn't pick it up due to room, I have been with my fiance for six months and just yesterday her parents told me that they still had an Apple IIe in the closet. I went to take a look at it and sure eough it was there in excellent shape, hard drive, two disk drives, printer and a slew of software and manuals, no games though, but that will change soon. I can pick it up whenever I want.

Oh, and Kickle Cubicle ROCKS. One of my fave NES titles. Very similar to Lolo in design, as you're basically solving screen size puzzles.
