These are 2 games, and KOTOR was a smash hit on the Xbox and PC.

Yeah, KOTOR for me... can't go wrong with the good people at bioware.

Definitely KotOR. Few games have drawn me in as much as that did, Star Wars or otherwise.

Star Wars 32x.

Seriously.

Closely followed by KotoR... haven't played the second one yet.

In the current gen, I dig Lego Star Wars. REALLY looking forward to the upcoming OT version. KOTOR is awesome, but I am not the RPG type. I have also loved every Rogue Squadron game, on-foot sections of Rebel Strike be damned.

Have always had a soft spot for the SNES Super series, especially Super Star Wars.

As for all time, I have to go with the original vector arcade game. Talk about a true time warp.

The best Star Wars game ever made is, and was Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II

roushimsx
01-25-2006, 08:25 PM
My favorite is probably Dark Forces 2 - Jedi Knight followed closely by Tie Fighter and then Dark Forces. X-Wing gets nudged out because of the mandatory secondary and bonus objectives.

Empire at War looks like it'll soon find in a home in my list of favorite Star Wars games, though. The demo was extremely nice and it's being developed by ex-Westwood guys (and we all know Westwood rocks, right? :) ). Color me fucking sold.

I might have enjoyed Star Wars 32x if I hadn't played X Wing long beforehand, and Jedi Outcast...well...Raven really dropped the ball on that one, imo. Maybe if they had concentrated on either Soldier of Fortune II OR Jedi Outcast then they would have kept up the level of quality I expected from them after Heretic II, but it just wasn't ment to be :(

Lego Star Wars looks awesome and everyone seems to love it. I've been waiting for the price to drop for a while now :( Hopefully I can find it used for =<$20 sometime soon.

I tried to get into the Rogue Squadron games, but I just don't dig the forced third person perspective. Is it possible in any of the newer ones to switch to a cockpit view?

Also, anyone have any tips for beating that AT-ST in Shadows of the Empire? Holy hell was that a painfully unfun and difficult fight. I recall beating it years ago, but recently when I was trying to play it again, I repeatedly got my ass handed to me until I just gave up in frustration :(

Oh! And what about Obi Won for Xbox? Is it worth picking up on the cheap? I kind of quit paying attention to it when they announced that there wasn't going to be a PC version :(

Star Wars Arcade. The sit down machine with the giant screen. Plenty of cool Star Wars games (Colecovision game rocked back when too), but the arcade machine is king in my book...

Someone posts this thread every couple years and I get to dust off this beaut of a gaming joke....

Q: What is the best Star Wars videogame?

A: Colony Wars

stressboy
01-25-2006, 09:25 PM
Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight is my favorite of the Star Wars game, and arguably one of my all time favorite FPS'. The second level is, The Lost Disk, is one of the first games to ever give me the fear of heights. Walking across those rails with nothing but space below you, while they move, still puts a feeling of dread in my stomach. It has some of the best level design I have seen, and the music from the movies adds to the atmosphere.

Coming in at second would be a tie between Tie Fighter and KOTOR. KOTOR was the reason I bought my Xbox actually, and I love its story. Being a Star Wars nut, I loved seeing a lot of the backstory to the Jedi and their struggles against the Sith. Tie Fighter was a lot of fun, was long, and god how I wish they would revisit the series. We need a new space shooter.

Would also like to give honorable mentions to the Rogue Squadron games, Starfighter, X-Wing, Episode Racer(yeah I liked it), and the SNES games.

And oh god how could I have forgotten the old arcade game? Whenever I see one, which is rare these days, I ALWAYS play.

Empire at War is looking very, very nice as well.

Hah, Agreed :)

All of this KotOR talk is making me want to play it :( I've had the game for a while now (picked up the PC version when it dropped to $20), but haven't gotten around to installing it. I think a large reason is because some kind soul was nice enough to spoil major plot points for me when I asked if he liked the game or not.

Tan
01-25-2006, 11:02 PM
i also was unfortunate enough to find out the plot beforehand as well, but in the end it's really just superficial to the game as you choose your own path and the plot becomes what you make it, one of the reasons it has so much replay value.

Also, anyone have any tips for beating that AT-ST in Shadows of the Empire? Holy hell was that a painfully unfun and difficult fight. I recall beating it years ago, but recently when I was trying to play it again, I repeatedly got my ass handed to me until I just gave up in frustration

As I recall I snuck up behind it and shot it repeatedly in the back of the head. It couldn't turn around fast enough so I could follow its steps as it ran in circles trying to get away. I could beat it without taking a hit. Then again I think the game was set to easy... maybe you were playing on a higher difficulty?

I'm partial to all the N64 Star Wars games myself. Except Battle for Naboo, which I've never played. I got Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace (Playstation) for my birthday when it was released... man that game sucked! Star Wars for the NES and the SNES trilogy... so damn hard! But yeah, the Star Wars video game is a time- honored tradition, to be sure.

Dark Forces on the PC and Rogue Squadron for the N64. They both achieved what I was looking for in a Star Wars game. I got to shoot at storm troopers and Boba Fett as well as take down Tie Fighters and AT-ATs.

I'm still a sucker for the original arcade game, but where modern console and PC gaming is concerned, I have to throw in my lot with Rogue Squadron II on the Gamecube.

I'm eagerly awaiting Empire At War though. :-P

Without doubt, the only Star Wars game I ever gave a damn about was Jedi Outcast. That was superb! I could play on Bespin all night :) I even enjoyed being about to sit down on a ledge, and watch the action unfold around me. At one time, the eticate of fellow players was also pretty damn good, and made it a lot more fun.

i agree, going into a server, forces powers turned off, with light sabres only, tournament style. only 1 duel at a time, winner takes on the next opponent until only 1 person is victorious.

and the fact that it's a quake 3 engine game made it so easy to mod and build custom character models.

Star Wars: The Arcade Game
Especially the cockpit model, one of the best arcade machines ever.

"I have you now!"
"Use the Force, Luke!"
"The Force will be with you...Always"

Most of the home games I've played have been subpar. The SNES platformers are good, as are the 2600 games. I haven't played KOTOR yet, but I hear it's very good too.

I loved that game so much. What a great game, I can't belive I didn't mention it in my earlier post. Jedi Academy was also good but no where near as good as Outcast. Truly was the ultimate Jedi Experience.

Call me old school, but I always like to play X-WING CD edition. Sure the graphics suck by todays standards, but I have never gotten a better feeling at being a rebel pilot than when I play this game. Missions are awesome and you have so many commands at your disposal. I also love KotoR.

personally i find the battlefront series ok, but it's like one big demo that you can do a bunch of little things to a small degree, none of the vehicles feel like what i'd expect, and the combat is simplistic, but if i was picking a shooter, i'd take republic commando or dark forces.

I'm not a huge fan of Star Wars titles. Lucas can take a shit on a CD, call it Star Wars, and people would buy it.

That said Star Wars Trilogy for the Model 3 board is one of the greatest arcade titles i've ever played. It's such a rush. I can beat on a couple of quarters now.

I just bought KOTOR 2 for the Xbox last weekend, and I am LOVING it! I am not a fan of RPG's at all, but its so fun. Now I have to buy the first one and play it when I'm finished with this one.

I liked Star Wars: Galatic Battleground for the PC, was some good fun to play, if you're into that sort of Red Alert type of games.

Hopefully in a week or so I will pickup Battlefront II because I've been wanting to get that for a while. And reading through some of this stuff maybe I'll have to get Jedi Outcast as well.

X-Wing on the PC. This game was fun to play when it came out using a joystick. The second place would be Super Starwars for the SNES. I just generally don't like the massive amounts of games Lucas Arts throws out. Episode I Pod Racer was fun too. Often played at school on a G5 and my N64.

A year later, lemme change my vote to Star Wars Battlefront 1 and 2. I suck at them but they're good shooters. :P

BTW, I own the following games:

Super Star Wars
Super Empire Strikes Back
Rogue Leader
KOTOR (Mac)
Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy (Mac -- can't play the game cuz my copy has 2 disc 1 and no disc 2... gotta return the extra disc to Aspyr for an exchange)
Star Wars Battlefront (PS2)
Star Wars Battlefront 2 (PS2)

Lego Star Wars 1 and 2 are on my to-buy list.

I know you can in both the Gamecube games. Did the N64 one really lack a cockpit view? I could have sworn it had one.

I really dug the KOTOR games, Star Wars on NES, Rogue Leader, Empire Strikes Back on 2600, Shadows of the Empire on N64, and Star Wars 32X. Also, for a while I played the hell out of Masters of Teras Kasi, and I still feel the game gets a bad rap.

Haven't played too many Star Wars games, but I also have all the Super Star Wars games on the SNES, and my favorite out of those, and favorite overall, is Super Return of The Jedi. I also have Star Wars Episode 1 Racer on the N64, and that was better than I thought it would be. I'd like to eventually play both Lego Star Wars games.

Can't believe I never posted on this one.

KOTOR is definitely it for me. Some people don't know that the original KOTOR comic books were "prequels" for the game, sort of. They talk quite a bit in the game about the Sith War and all that - that comes from the old KOTOR series (as well as the Freedon Nadd uprising, Dark Lords of the Sith, etc.). They also have "The Golden Age of the Sith" which happens 1000 years before KOTOR, and is also a fairly interesting read.

LEGO Star Wars is a close second - those games were ridiculously awesome.

My favorites Star Wars?

1. X-Wing Alliance (with 3rd party ship model upgrades!)- Shit. I don't even bother playing the story part of the game. I just go to the virtual trainer mode and do the big space battle modes. The upgraded ship models are awesome, especially the size corrected Super Star Destroyer and such.

2. Star Wars Trilogy Arcade- Awesome game. No more needs to be said.

3. Star Wars Demolition- A lot of people hate this game, but I really dug it and my friends and I found it to be a fun little party game! Try it liquored up!

4. Force Commander- Another game that got a bad rap. I really enjoyed this game. I really had fun commanding stormtroopers to blast jawas.

5. Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy- Another fun FPS. Had alot of fun playing this one.

Special Mention: Republic Commando- I only played a demo of this game but I liked it quite a bit. A friend is sending me his copy, in fact.

Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight for PC. I remember when I got this game, it was the age of the 3DFx cards, and I'm pretty sure that Jedi Knight didn't really use any 3D accelleration and it kinda looked crappy compared to other PC games of that time, or maybe I just stumbled onto it a year or so late, but despite all of that, I thought the game was amazing.

It was just so awesome how it made you really feel like you were in that universe. There have been many Star Wars games since then that have had graphics and sounds that would blow Jedi Knight out the water, but I don't think any of them has given me that feeling like I was really in the Star Wars world like Jedi Knight did. Matter of fact, I need to find a copy of that game and install it on my laptop for whenever I go on a trip. I would love to revisit it.

Having almost every console game for Star Wars, this is a tough one. Star Wars PC games can be solid as well(I am glad my PC can run the old stuff) My top five are:

1. Tie Fighter
2. Rebel Strike(the two player mode of Rogue Squadron that is included, very enjoyable if played with the right person
3. Dreamcast Racer
4. Jedi Knight
5. KOTR(best dam story...period)

Battlefront 1 and 2 are both great fun for me. Tie Fighter on my old PC was extremely entertaining until the later levels when the difficulty jumped up about 50x's that of the previous levels. Hell I'm such a Star Wars geek I can find enjoyment in all the games. The BEST one in my mind, once you get past the ridiculous learning curve, is Empire at War.

I will also add to this discussion that before it got screwed up royally and turned into a bad WoW clone, Star Wars Empire Divided was the greatest MMORPG ever made.
