I have to get my hands on this disc. I don't have any intention of buying Subsistence but I absolutely need to see this documentary.
I was also suprised to see that MGS4 is the end of Solid Snake, and Kojima's affiliation with the MG series. Hopefully it'll be the truly epic masterpiece it needs to be to cap the series.

It doesn't say anywhere that this is end of Solid Snake. Though Kojima will try to leave the series (50/50 chance he'll be back) Snake will live on.
And Damn that's one hell of a good pre-order item.

You mean like the Ac!d games? Bah. Snake's "last game" was MGS2, then 3, and now 4. Kojima says that to make you all weepy and emotional. He's mean like that.

Actually it DOES say just that. You need to go back and read it. When Kojima leaves so does Snake.
well, here you go:
Though there was never any doubt about life after Kojima for Metal Gear, the DVD looks like it's going to reveal that at least one major player is leaving with the creator. What we've seen of Saga seems to indicate that if anyone picks up where he left off, the mulleted yet charismatic protagonist Solid Snake won't be revived with the franchise

Gah, I'll probably have to scrounge around money for a preorder...depending on how much the game itself will cost, that is...

I remember when Kojima said that MGS3 was the last of the series...

-------------------------------------------------
Over the backdrop of MGS4, Saga reveals that the game is "the sixth and final chapter in the story of Solid Snake." Of course, other directors could go on to create games surrounding lesser characters like simpering antihero Raiden, but without Kojima or Snake, a Metal Gear is Metal Gear in title alone.
-------------------------------------------------
Translation: that Metal Gear Solid 4 will signal many FINAL ENDINGS for both the Metal Gear SOLID storyline and its creator:
#1.The end of the Solid Snake that we know and love from the original Metal Gear (NES and MSX) up to Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (PS3).
#2. most likely the FINAL end of Big Boss also (Snake from MGS3)
#3. The REAL and truly final departure of Kojima from the series he created.
#4. The end (obviously) of the SOLID storyline.
Now that being stated I wouldnt be surprised to see other Metal Gears released for all kinds of systems containing both a NEW and ONGOING STORYLINE and also other "side-stories" containing any number of the vast characters that Kojima created during the series original run.
I think it would be a given that there will be a RE-make of the original NES METAL GEAR for the PS3 sometime down the road also not so much as to milk the franschise but for the simple fact there are soooo many new gamers out there that know nothing of the first Metal Gear (especially Metal Gear 2: solid snake). although this will change somewhat with the release of MGS3:subsistance , the FIRST METAL GEAR has almost GOT TO BE REMADE at some point IMO.

Yep. Just like when Ozzy Osboure "retired" like 400 times.
A franchise as profitable as Metal Gear and Snake won't disappear.
I do agree that a remake of 1 and 2 has to be made.

Snake is a clone. So yes, Solid snake may depart with Kojima. But big boss, or liquid snake, or smoke snake, or snake jerky, ocelot, ferret, mongoose, or ANY other character would/could still be in a metal gear game.
