Nintendo didn't put them in the blister packs. It's a per store thing.

I just don't understand why any store would go to the trouble of inconveniencing the customer like that. I hate those damn packs. And for things that actually come in those packs as standard, once you've sliced/ripped it open - you're without a box. Very frustrating if you actually want to keep things organised.

My only disappointments are the sound seems VERY low now. Maybe it's just me, but I couldn't hear it at all on the highest volume.

It took me ages to really appreciate that there is a big difference between the original DS and the DS Lite in terms of volume. The DS Lite is really a lot quieter - it is probably the only negative thing about it. There are fewer speaker holes either side of the top screen, which I guess explains it. With headphones, I reckon it is about the same.

gorgeous little machine, came out to $145 cdn after tax for me, plus a free mars bar :-P

A Mars Bar is only for a moment, a DS Lite is for life! Be careful, though: both look so tasty, you might eat the wrong one!

well I'm very happy with my DS LITE, i mean damn that thing is sexy. I had my carrying case for it from E3 in it's plastic till the second i pulled it out of the box. I also picked up brain age with it (it needed a new game), so in all I'm very happy w/ it.

Very frustrating if you actually want to keep things organised.Where did you buy it? (My money's on Wal-Mart or Target. Maybe CostCo after seeing the oversized blister packs they put Mac Mini "starter kits" in.)

Also, was it hanging up or did the clerk have to get it for you? And even if he had to get it, did the pack have the holes for hanging it up in it? (Even if it wasn't hanging when you got it.)

I'm placing the rest of my money on "Theft deterrent". Those packs slow down thieves who try to steal the item while in the store. Since the Lite is small enough to conceal, but the box isn't, most people will try to take it out of the box first. The plastic makes it much harder.

It was at Best Buy. Which kinda weirded me out. BB has those big cages where they keep all the consoles. You ask an employee - they get it for you.

The good thing is, my real DS box was unharmed during the opening process.

My thumb on the other hand... (no pun intended)

I always cut myself on the sharp edges. Those blister packs should be banned!

I got mine today. I haven't even turned it on yet and I'm disappointed. First, there's no Nintendo oval. I'm a big Nintendo fan, and enjoy their emblem. Second, the charger is a different plug type than the DS, forcing me to unravel and keep track of yet another charger.

However, it is neat that it is ocvered in a clear plastic clamshell, making it look like the same high-gloss finish as the PSP. Oh well. I had ot purchase this at sometime anyways.

Anyone experience a dead pixel issue in their DS Lite? We had someone exchange theirs today due to a dead pizel in the Lite they bought yesterday.

Umm... turn it on?Also, turn it over. Your precious oval is down there.

Seriously, once you turn it on, you will NEVER return it.

Also, I know what you mean about the charger. The original DS and the GBA used the same charger. Then the GBmicro had a new one. Now the Lite has another one. Why not at least use the micro version.

I do like the gold color though, but it would have made more sense to make the charger white.

The good thing is, my real DS box was unharmed during the opening process.

That is a great point! Sometimes, when I open these type of packs, I actually end up damaging what is inside! They are so awkward to hold, I end up damaging any box inside. And while I've never done it... I've bought cables (most recently for my Xbox 360) which are inside these blister packs... and it would have been pretty easy to catch the cable with the knife or the scissors.

Worst. Invention. Ever.

Well, I finally did. The picture quality seems better since the colors are more defined by the brighter screen. This was especially noticeable with New Super Mario Bros. The fact that the GBA carts stick out reminds me of playing NES carts on a pocket fami. The sound volume seems fine to me, although it is a little quieter at maximum volume level. The only time I ever crank the volume is when I have headphones on anyways. I do like that the e-reader fits now, and I get to shelf my DS to ensure it doesn't get scratched up. I've had my DS since launch, and have not had a scratch on it. However, the protective cover on the back sticker was starting to peel off, and now I don't have to worry about it coming off completely.

All in all, it's a decent system. I just have a hard time adjusting to change. Anyone that has not purchased a DS yet should really consider getting the DS Lite.

In a slightly unrelated comment, does anyone know if Toys R Us will release a specal color or packaged DS for Christmas? I missed the Shrek GBA, and am not going to miss the chance to get this year's special.

Im still pondering over if I should buy a lite or not. I already bought a gameboy micro, and I must admit it was a very good purchase, because the thing is so damn cool (and clear), but I already own a DS, and am still deciding if $145 (tax people, come on) is worth it for a severely brighter screen, and a lighter design. Sure the damn thing lokks awsome, but is it really REALLY worth the price? to some where money is not an issue im sure you will say buy it, but for someone like me who only gets by right now based on ebay auctions, am still undecided.

So, is it REALLY worth it?

what gives? My mistake. At first glance it looked goldish. But it is indeed grey but a shiny grey. Rusty grey.

No, I lied. Mine's made of solid gold. :P And the DS itself is white chocolate.

I wish I could say yes, but my eyes, I am now blind thanks to those very bright screens. Its a really good thing I am such a good touch typist ;)

HA HA. Yes it is so worth it! You will be playing all your games over again because the color is so much better. Castlevania DS is just amazing. True Swing Golf is another one that "pops" because the greens and yellows really look good on this unit.

I bought a DS Lite on Monday and fell in love with it. The first unit I bought had a dead pixel in the touchscreen, so I took it back and exchanged it and the replacement unit is A+. I'm having a lot of fun with it.

Ugh, I did. Just got my new DS Lite today and as soon as I turned it on, I saw a gigantic stuck green pixel in the middle of the touch screen. x_x I *knew* I was going to get a system with at least one bum pixel. Oh well, at least I have the receipt so I can return it for another one tomorrow.

Then good thing is that I only paid $120 for it. Got mine from Target and had a $10 off coupon for any electronics item $100 and up.

Got my second DS Lite (White) this morning. The Europe box packaging is quite different to Japan's. I just don't get why they change simple things like that.

Box is twice as big, as well. The mind boggles.

Anyway, I really like the white look. It feels so different to the Navy - I can't explain it.

So - do any of our Eurogamers have the black DS lites yet?

Lets see those pics people!! :D

I'm debating if I want to import one - my gf has been hogging mine. She even went and bought herself a copy of Nintendogs.

Already had it since launch and love it to bits. Too bad theres one green stuck pixel on the top screen that won't go away :( (the pics were taken when i was running the stuck pixel fixer - didn't work btw)
Definitely worth an import.

I got my pearl white DS lite yesterday and I'm already having the girlfriend issue some of you are having. But, damn, I don't know if I care or not now that I have discovered that black one. Maybe I'll pretend I have an excuse to splurge a bit and import one.

Oh, and while I am posting, anyone have any suggestions on a reliable screen protector? I was thinking about the Hori ones, but I'm afraid that applying the them will be a bit confusing.

Yeah - I'm definately gonna import a black one now.

That's just sexy!

Plus it doesn't have that smooth, plastic layer over the controls. So it looks like fingerprints and hand gunk wouldn't show up as easily. I'm tired of having to wash my hands everytime i wanna play my polar white DS to keep it from getting dirty.

I'm sold! But knowing my luck, I'll order one, and Nintendo will release them over here.

Word of caution guys. Seems alot of Black DS lites have got dead / stuck pixels.
I'm going to the store tomorrow to get my unit changed because of that stuck pixel. Hope they have extra black ones in stock.

I think the regular DS has more style. I mean yes the DS lite is shiny, and smaller, and has a brighter screen. But none of that give me anough reason to actually get one. I'm not bashing anyone who has it these are just my opinions.

I wonder how many of us are going to wind up buying a second or even third DS Lite. I'm pretty thrilled with this thing, and the cheap price means I could always have a second one around for multiplayer games.

Heck, I'm even tracking down some older games like Zoo Keeper and Bomberman and Meteos, just for the multiplayer kicks. Wouldn't be surprised if I eventually caved in and bought the black Lite. If it doesn't get in the way of my record collecting, that is.

Ok, i tried the Hori screen protector and it simply sucks. Ouendan kills the protector (heavy scratches). Swapped to Martin Fields and its been doing great so far.

So anyone planning to get screen protectors, use only Martin Fields. It may be expensive, but its worth it.

Does the European DS Lite work with a regular AC adapter? Maybe the kind the DS and GBA SP use?

I'm debating about whether it's worth it to import a black one when I might not be able to power it, it might have dead pixels, Nintendo might release that color here, and it costs 70 dollars more plus shipping.

I hope so; I really do. The black one is much better IMO than the white. Of course, what I'm really hoping for is an extremely cool limited-edition one akin to the NES GBA or that Zelda or Mario GBA that they released over in Europe. Even a Pokemon one that had some cool illustrations on it (like that Groudon GBA @ the Nintendo World Store) would be phat.
