The Phantom RETURNS!!!

Theoretical Phantom Game Service and current Phantom Lapboard creator Infinium Labs has announced that it has received a $5 million dollar funding commitment from Golden Gate Investors.

The funding, which comes in the form of a convertible debenture and warrant, and allows for an initial funding payment of $625,000, with an eventual exercising of up to $5M in convertible debt. will allow Infinium to start manufacturing and marketing its PC Lapboard peripheral.

The PC peripheral, which is being billed by Infinium as "the first device to allow gamers to comfortably use a mouse and keyboard from their couch", rotates for left and right-handed users and also inclines on a 90-degree angle, with a hard surface below for the Phantom Mouse.

Greg Koler, Infinium's CEO and President, commented of the funding: "This commitment gives the Company a funding path to begin manufacturing the Phantom Lapboard and to launch marketing and sales for the lapboard which we target for mid 2006 allowing us to start building our manufacturing lines this year, and continue our initiative to launch the Phantom Game Service."

However, with a recent financial statement revealing that Infinium Labs still "has recurring losses from inception of $57,570,723, has a working capital deficiency of $10,085,662, a stockholders deficiency of $9,470,271 and has a negative cash flow from operations of $14,888,265 from inception", and will need to pay significant cash amounts to game licensors and Phantom hardware contractors, the Game Service itself may have to wait a little longer before getting officially under way.

Haha. The generic topic title actually enhanced the effect. Dang! I've gotta hand it to these guys; they really stick with it, and I think that's admirable... On the other hand, if they're just sucking away others' money, it's no wonder they don't quit.

I'll check out the mouse and keyboard if/when it makes it to market, but Infinium is only fooling themselves if they think that they're going to get the Phantom finished and distributed.

I'll just hook my PC to the TV, thanks. 8-)

Well, in their semi-defense, this is only for the mouse/keyboard concept, which, from what I've heard, is actually fairly decent looking and to use.

I wish investors would discover that burning their money is better then investing in this company, at least then they could see where their money went.

The lapboard looks cool. ANyone make out what the MSRP is going to be...I could really use a solution better than a TV tray.

The website was somewhat broken for me with IE 8.0. So hopefully that'll be fixed...

The games I was able to price were being sold at MSRP. Why would I download a game for the same retail price?

Who are they kidding? The second I heard about the Phantom years ago the first thought that came into my head was, "This is textbook fraud."

Why would anyone give them money? They already failed and have no chance whatsoever.

My first thought is, how will they compete with Steam? And then I looked at the site... it seems they're just a straight download store. Which means they won't have all the features of Steam. But, I know some people just don't like Steam. Perhaps these people would rather just download games off a website. So maybe Phantom could find its niche with that. But their prices aren't too hot, even for non-current games. $19.99 for Deus Ex.

I stand by my original statement. They should focus on the board and drop the store.

I remember reading a review of the lapboard earlier this year. The gist of the review was that it's a good idea horribly executed.
