Me and 2 of my friends have spent 2 full nights play Ghosts 'N Goblins and we still can't pass the 4th area. I read on the internet that you have to beat the game twice to really beat it. So I was wondering, have any of you beat this supid hard game?

Indeed I have--years ago. Ghost n Goblins was the first game I bought (parents bought) for my NES when I got it way back in 87. I can tell you, it took me a heckuva lot longer than two nights to beat it. And I've probably done it less than 5 times (much less.)

After fighting your way through the game once only to discover that you have to go through it all AGAIN to beat it propperly, was one of the meanest, nastiest surprises I've had in any game. Grrrr . . .

I did a very, very long time ago. It was so nice when I finished it. Watching the ending where he saves the princess was great. Once I was finished, I peeled the label back off the cart making sure not to damage the label for Super Mario 3 and put it back on the Ghost n Goblins cart.

Ok, that would be the only was I could finish it. I've been trying sense that game was in arcades. That game has to be one of the most difficult game I have ever seen. Someone at a game store once told me that all 2D games were for little kids and that only adults played 3D games because 2D was so easy it was kids play. It's nice to watch someone else eat their own words every so often.

I beat this game once....and it was a B......I've tried to beat it again many times and can't do it..Even my NES fanatic friend Ron can't do it. :embarrassed:

My Brother in law has the Ghost n Goblins Arcade machine in his basement...He's wanted to sell me this cab many times.
But the game aggravates me x_x to much for me to even consider owning the machine..I find the game to be much harder on the Arcade machine. ,I can't pass the first level.. :grrr:

A game that's easily as hard - who knows, maybe harder - is the arcade version of Alex Kidd: The Lost Stars.

Don't believe me? Try it...it boggles the mind how many times I had to hear that stupid digitized Alex death sound 0_o

It's such a shame that an amazing piece of game is hurt by clearly too high of a difficulty. why not at least put in a difficulty setting. frustrating not being able to fully experience the game

I've beaten Ghosts and Goblins and Ghous 'N' Ghosts. The that I think is impossible is Super Ghouls 'N' Ghosts.

The trick is to remember that the there is a pattern to most things in the game, and you just have to memorize what's coming up next so that it doesn't take you by surprise. You have to play it A LOT to get that kind of insight, but it can be done. I find the arcade version way less forgiving, too.

Don't you have to make sure you get a cross or something or you have to go back to world 6 and start over from there??

Yes "you must" have the cross period for the 1st and 2nd run to fight, Lucifer at the end.

Arcade version but still mighty impressive.

I've beaten this game before. Try using the stage select code to jump around and practice each stage until you can beat them all individually.

I think there are harder games out there, but that is a discussion for another post.

Yeah, I've also beat it twice around, but it is one of the hardest, if not hardest, games on the NES.

And for my dollar, Super Ghouls and Ghosts is a lot easier than the original Ghosts and Goblins.

Uh... that's Ghouls 'N Ghosts, which is known to be MUCH easier than Ghosts 'N Goblins. Still, Ben Shinobi is an amazing 1CC gamer who frequently posts his superplays on the internet. He's 1CC'd Bubble Bobble, Green Berret, and Rastan Saga for crying out loud :eek 2:

I've beaten Super G'n'G for the SNES, and it was a BITCH. The NES one though? Never. No way in hell.

I've beaten all 3 games in the trilogy (new game in the series soon), it sure as hell didn't happen when I was younger, it was only long after I got the cart back in high school that I finally did (rentals got me nowhere). Now that I have the Capcom Classics Collection, I can practice on the arcade versions (and the SuperNES port).

Ghosts N Goblins, first quest was beaten, but only after a couple hours, I was too tired for quest two.

I could never finish that game in a lifetime, and I can finish battletoads rather easily and play to the end of Snake rattle n roll also but not that game, I think that game ranks up there with Bayou Billy DD3 and Cobra Triangle.

In my humble opinion.

Ghouls and Ghosts = EASIEST
Super Ghouls and Ghosts = Medium difficulty
Ghosts and Goblins = Harder than shit

I dont remember if I ever finished Ghosts and Goblins. I THINK I did. Or maybe my memory is failing and I just ended up using the NES Stage Select trick to see the end. I forget. :hmm:

I have Ghosts n Goblins for the NES and Super Ghouls ‘n Ghosts for the SNES and can’t beat either of them. To me they are an exercise in frustration, simply too hard. I might try like I have with some other games but the payoff is not great enough to warrant enduring that level of frustration. To me Super GnG on the SNES is the hardest game ever created, pure frustration.

Just use the code from the code site. I can beat the game that way.

Super GnG aint hard at all really. Just takes some practice with the double jump and realizing you can do that second jump anytime you want.

NES/Arcade Ghouls and Ghosts however.. now THAT'S pure frustration.

Yeah indeed a damn hard game, all of them imo....i had the snes version and played it till i found out i had to start over to get the stupid bracelet ( or whetever it was) and i just didn't feel like doien everything over, i never finished it,shame really.....just recently i bought the NES game, but since i currently don't have a nes,it'll have to weit till i get another one to be beaten....it will happen someday

By the way,not to sound smart or anything, but why does everyone call it ghostS 'n goblins ?

I'm holding the cart right now and it is ghost 'n goblins, not ghosts.....or maybe i have a misprinted label lol :D

*steps in and tips my hat*

Hi Rejinx,

I'm Ghouls 'N Ghosts or you can call me Ghosts N' Goblins, Ghouls 'N Ghosts, and Super Ghouls 'N' Ghosts, pleasure to meet ya :) I'm pretty much the GnG fanatic of DP's history.

I have finished every common known USA port of GnG Trilogy and the JPN "Capcom Generations Vol. 2" on Saturn. NES is beatable by far, since I felt it was the easiest port, especially since Stage 5 is easier on you compared to the Arcade.

To be honest, it took me years to curve my skills at the NES Ghosts N Goblins. I originally studied the game when it was re-released on GameBoy Color. Since it's a direct port. So around Summer of 2000, I finally got the patterns down right. (some say the game doesn't have a specific pattern, but the plan is laid out very well if you're great at timing)

Level 3 of Ghosts N Goblins (The cave) is the only area that gives me the most problems, since the Dragon is very unpredictable at times. Yet in Stage 4 he seems a bit tame the 2nd time around.

Yet the real Arcade verison of Ghosts N Goblins will make you cry in mercy when you reach Stage 5...a Boss royale battle...and then facing the Lucifier at the tip of the enterance to the King of Demons....fun times indeed!

I wish you great luck in conquering this wonderful game, but the thing is about GnG...it makes you tough as nails in a coffin...

Yep I second that G G id buy that in a heartbeat if i was in jersey too maybe joe should buy it for his store !! :D ...

to answer your question yeah I ve beaten ghosts n goblins on both quests back in 1987. I believe I have answered this question somewhere here on DP !!! funny story my cousin gave up on that hard game so he gave it to me because he watched me playing it and i was pretty good at it so i beated it after playing 2nd quest on the 2nd day i left my nes on pause and turned the tv off overnight LOL.

ghosts n goblins nes is the hardest
super ghouls n ghosts snes easiest i beated it on the first day i got it as it was released on the day i got it !
ghouls n ghosts on genesis i finished that game too !!!

i still have to beat maximo someday LOL !

hoping for a new 2D G G game someday but doubt it will ever come real ! :(

Oh man, I beat Maximo. A great, hard game. They don't make challenging games very often anymore, so I bought that one pretty much immediately. I was so disappointed by Maximo 2. Could they have nerfed the difficulty any MORE? I'm playing it, and I'm thinkin "Christ, what is this, Ratchet and Clank?"

There's a sorta 2-D GnG game coming out for PSP called Extreme Ghouls N Ghosts, it will star Arthur but if it plays like the old school game is anyone's guess, it does have more armor, you can take more hits, and the bosses look to be huge. Some say it's 3-D but it looks enough 2-D to pass off as 2-D.

@WiseSalesman: Yeah I remember finishing Maximo: Ghosts to Glory, that was a solid ending, but that last boss was a pain. Maximo 2 I have yet to play sadly

@Bloodreign: That's the only game that makes me wanna jump up and buy a PSP or just "borrow" one from a friend just to play that game LOL
