There are quite a few on Playstation, and then N64 and Saturn versions too! I really liked Wipeout Pure on PSP, and would like a few classics to go with it! So, what are your favs?
I heard Wipeout 3 Special Edition is great

WipeoutXL on the original PlayStation all the way. WipeoutXL + a neGcon is gaming bliss. I never did like the changes the series took after WipeoutXL, especially the horrible and bug-ridden Wipeout Fusion.

AGREED

I still play my original Wipeout XL disc to this day and I have always thought of XL as WIPEOUT PERFECTED.

I remember spending more hours playing wipeout XL one summer a few years back more than ANY OTHER PSone game.

Wipeout 3 all the way.

Wipeout 3 added the cockpit view, which was perfectly implemented, it had the best difficulty curve (Wipeout's was too steep, XL's was too shallow), the best tracks, and the best music. The graphics are still incredibly nice, too.

Wipeout 64 was a ho-hum port, really. I really expected more and I was disappointed it wasn't as good as the playstation versions. The Saturn versions were also pretty crummy ports overall.

I've been meaning to play Fusion, but I've heard so much bad stuff about it ... :( And to think that the early screenshots of it had me really excited for the PS2...

I'll vote for Wipeout 3. I like the single race gameplay over the multi-race "circuit" of XL. Also, I prefered the graphics and most of the gameplay changes. That being said, XL did have a better soundtrack and cooler weapons.

I know I'm probably alone here, but I love Wipeout 64. It's amazing considering the hardware and the higher res polygon models look better than on the PSX. Superbly atmospheric and some of the best racing on the system.

In order of preference
WipeOut XL > WipeOut Pure > WipeOut Fusion > Rest

Wipeout 3 had a nasty bug though. On one circuit with one specific ship, in the cockpit mode (I can't remember this it was a LONG time ago, just after the release) just as you completed the first lap the game would lockup. I could replicate it again and again and again. I reported the bug and no one seemed to care, so that's when I figured I'd quit caring about Wipeout 3 and on the shelf it went. LOL I know bugs happen in games all the time but a "thanks, we'll make a note of that" was all I needed to hear.

Nope, you're not alone, I too loved the N64 WipeOut 64 and the original WipeOut on PSX/Saturn :)

I liked Fusion for PS2.

While it doesnt rank up there in the top 3 I thought it to be a good wipeout game and actually prefer Fusion over part 3.

Fusion does have sweet graphics too.

I liked Wipeout64 also but the big NEGATIVE was the clipping in the N64 version.

Smae here man, XL was good to but there's just amething about the N64 title that kicks ass, plus the N64 controller was made for racing games!

I always liked Wipeout (1972) on Odyssey, but seriously, for me the Wipout XL PSX version still is a good thrill. Kills many weekends

I love the original and Wipeout 3. Wipeout XL and 64 are good, but don't hold up as well as those two to me. Fusion is okay, but just didn't feel like much of a Wipeout game to me.

Yeah, I like the original alot too. Something about launch titles that make them more special too me, when looking back at games of the past. The original Wipeout is a game that could definitely be considered one of the big, original killer apps for the PSX.

Wipeout 3 gets my vote as the best "classic" Wipeout. The original on the PlayStation and Saturn were lots of fun and set the groundwork for an excellent sequel. Wipeout XL is really great since they really polished just about everything. The soundtrack is great and I really like how you can cancel autopilot at any time. Playing in system link mode is great when you're with a buddy, too. All of the in-game Red Bull advertizing is pretty tacky, though. I only picked up the game a couple months ago and I couldn't put it down until I won every race (which, sadly, didn't take long at all).

Wipeout 3 is just huge in comparison. I think that Wipeout XL only gives the player 11 events to complete where Wipeout 3 gave me 288 events (not counting the tournaments or prototype track races) and recently, I played that one until I won them all, too. It just seems like the finest example of a PlayStation game taking full advantage of the hardware. The game looks great and even supports widescreen televisions. 4-player link mode is just plain cool. Even the load times are noticeably shorter than in Wipeout XL. The game just seemed to get better and better the more that I played it. I also like how they encourage the player to try out all the different cars compared to Wipeout XL or even Wipeout Pure (I can't say that I've ever played Wipeout 64 or Fusion). The prototype tracks are pretty nifty, too.

WipeOut XL is definitely my favorite. It's got a certain je ne sais quoi can cannot be described. It was the first Wipeout game to accurately depict blinding speed. Dated soundtrack? I still pop that disc into my CD player, it's got Redbook audio!

Also, I'll never understand why or how WipeOut Fusion got such a bad rep. Graphically it's beautiful, and you can hit some blazing speeds as well. The only two beefs I have with it are 1.) some of the tracks don't seem to be designed with high speed in mind, and 2.) combat plays a larger role than it used to. Other than that though, I've had countless hours of fun with Fusion.

I agree completely. WipeOut 3 was a true testament to what the PS could do. It looks great, and it looks especially
amazing if you play it on a PS2 with the smooth texture mapping enabled. Not to mention it also supports the NegCon, and the soundtrack was great too. WipeOut 3 is definately my favorite of the series.

WipeOut 64 was really good too, and the control was perfect.

WipeOut Pure is just that, a pure WipeOut game. They threw away the crap of the PS2 game and went back to the series' roots. It really plays more like XL or 3, which is a good thing.

As far as Fusion goes, I agree, it doesn't deserve the WipeOut name. It doesn't "feel" like a wipeout game. The tracks are ridiculous, and the music really isn't great.

I've been playing a lot of Wipeout for the PS recently and have to say its amazing. How do the Saturn versions compare? I think 2097 was released for both PS and Saturn also.

1. Wip3out Special Edition, because it's the complete PSX Wipeout Experience - style, music and feeling is perfect

2. Wipeout 64, because it's the fastest of the series but it's very buggy, it often hangs up

3. Wipeout 2097/XL

4. Wipeout, ahh the memories ;)

5. Wipeout Pure, handling is not the best

And Fusion....... :/

I think it's time for a impressive nexgen "true" Wipeout sequel, with the almost unlimited power of the nexgen systems....*dreams*
