Until next week when Sony starts shipping version 2.70 LINK (http://www.pspfanboy.com/2006/01/30/firmware-2-60-ready-for-homebrew/).

Yeah, I read about this. I personally don't care but I bet a ton of people who got PSP's for christmas will be very happy.
This was great news. I love to play GTA and Popolocroris on the PSP, but I was missing the emulation.

I wish Sony would just give up on trying to stop homebrewers. They would sell more software that way. That's the main detrerent for me buying new games.

I think the same thing everytime I read that its been hacked again. You know, besides the wanting to buy games for it, since I don't own one. But, I do wish they'd just stop. They are not going to win.

In its own way it is sort of cute though.

Actually, I'd be impressed if they came up with a firmware that stumped the hackers completely - can't see it happening though.

Half the fun is in trying to find the next hole to exploit. And besides, wouldn't Sony be in hot water if they just allowed the homebrewers an easy ride?

They can't stop but I hear ya.
I'd definitely buy more games if I knew I could keep playing my NES emulator without a problem. As it is, I've made sure nothing I've bought is above 2.0 (GTA, PoPoLoCrois, WipeOut Pure, Lumines).
It's the price we pay for being early adoptors. I didn't hack my Xbox until last year and I got to enjoy the fruits of a few years worth of labour, as opposed to living through it :)

I haven't bought or rented a single game for this reason.

Is there any decent NES emulator that runs on the eBoot loader application?
I'm still on 1.5 and would like to upgrade to 2.00 for additional movie codec support.

What's 'decent' to you?
I've got 2.0 firmware, eBoot .9, and no complaints about NesterJ 1.07.
(The speech in Blades of Steel seems off but that's the only problem I've noticed).

The PC Engine, Genesis and Neo Geo CD emulators all run excellent with the eBoot loader as well. Just wish the 2.0 interface was as pretty for homebrew as it was for 1.5 ;)

It took forever for me to find a loader and emulators for 2.0, so I'm not upgrading from that until I'm 100% sure I can upgrade and continue to use my PSP for the one reason I seem to own it now. ;)
Though I do have an off topic complaint about NesterJ. Anyone else getting menu scrolling when no buttons are being pressed? I open a menu and it continuously scrolls up. The cursor that is. So I have to FIGHT the selection cursor to select ROMS and options. It's annoying as fucking hell. And it's the latest version of the goddamned program. But it's the only way I can get my NES fix.

I had that problem previously, and if I remember correctly it happened because I had installed "UONesterJ" instead of "NesterJ" - make sure you've got the right version of Nester and the problem disappears!
(That drove me *insane* - I was ready to forget about emulation altogether!)
I was disappointed in the Genesis emulator. The games ran great but I couldn't use save states, which makes most emulators useless in my eyes.

I was disappointed in the Genesis emulator. The games ran great but I couldn't use save states, which makes most emulators useless in my eyes. The Genesis one was too crappy for me. As was the Game Boy one. So I just deleted all the emulators I got in the package except the NES and SNES. Both of those work great. Except that the SNES one is a little slow on the framerate. :( But it's fine for games that don't require running and jumping. Like RPG's work fine. And some games with less happening on screen. Too bad Tetris Attack is too slow to be enjoyable. Super Mario All-Stars and Tetris/Dr. Mario freeze up when the screen does that mosaic pixely thing, (i.e. switching from world map to the level screen, etc.) and Super Mario RPG, the penultimate emulated SNES game, doesn't work at all!
BTW, where can I find the right NesterJ? I can't find it on Google anywhere. Just 0.71.

I'm sorry but I don't understand this logic. If Sony freely allowed everyone to easily (and freely) play any videogame from all of the 8 and 16 bit game console (via emulation) I couldn't see how that would help sell new software. If anything, I see it hurting the sale of new software. People generally don't like to pay for things they can get for free.
Also, if Sony freely allowed freeware games and programs how would they then justify charging publishers licensing fees to make games for the console.

Let me explain. Many of the people with a PSP won't upgrade because they can't play emulators it they do. This means that they've rather play emus than buy new games. Thus, less new games are bought.
Now if Sony allows for this then people will play emulation and buy new games. I'm sure old games don't make up for new PSP games.

You don't have to change versions of NesterJ, just take a look at this thread here: http://forums.qj.net/showthread.php?t=30700
For reference, I have four emulators on my memory card. RIN (Game Boy Color), SNES9XTYL 0.2, UoNesterJ, and PSPGenesis. The former three are all very satisfactory, while PSPGenesis could stand to be a little faster. I use the latest available versions, and I believe they are the best options for their respective consoles.

I need it to return to the PSP without having to unplug the PSP then remove the battery all the damn time. I need the Home button! Is there a way to get back to the launcher without the Home button?

I just checked my config file, and all "ExitButtonIsHome" flags *are* set to N (although I never touched them).
However I can still exit to home without turning off the PSP (BTW: Instead of unplugging anything you can just hold the power button for like 10-15 secs. It's a pain, but it's less of a pain than taking the battery out)
Hold L-R-Start to bring yourself back to the eBoot loader menu, and from there hit Start again and you'll reboot.
If you still want the version of NesterJ I'm using PM me with an email address.
What's the difference between UONesterJ and NesterJ anyway? Anyone?
I find the GameBoy emulator (RIN) works fine as well, so I've got it installed as well (I've only got a dozen or so games for it though, as I really don't know what's worth playing on it like I do with NES).

UONesterJ stands for "unofficial"; it's just another version which some people think is better than the original. I wouldn't imagine there is a very big difference between the two, but I can vouch that UO does the job nearly perfectly. I've never had a reason to try anything else.

I tried the non-UO version because, as I said, I was experiencing the 'up' problem. It's possible NesterJ defaults the settings mentioned above to "No," but the switch worked for me and I haven't touched UO since.
Thanks for the heads up on UO - learn something new every day!

Heh, I just purchased and downgraded a PSP to v1.5....of course for the easy emulation.
At this point, I really could care less for the new games....especially if they require me to completely abandon homebrew. There's just too much homebrew (emus/apps) on the system that are really great, and I believe my PSP will stay at v1.5 for a long long time. Only way I'll upgrade is if the newer firmwares are hacked in such a way that the ease of loading apps compares to v1.0/1.5 firmwares.
