Considering RE4 took 5 years to make, this news doesn't look promising:

I can see RE5 being a 2010 - 2011 release. I still stand by my prediction that RE5 will be a Konami title. Based on what we heard earlier last year, I don't think Capcom will be around in 2010.

Damn...so 4 years before the 360 gets something worth playing ;D?
Oh well, at least they're taking their time to try and reinovate a little bit. With the mass amount of games I have in backlog, I don't think I'll have any trouble waiting.

Ah, rats. Well, if it's anything like RE4, it'll be worth the wait.

With games being more complex, expect game development time to still be a long ass time, not to mention a huge manpower burdon on any game company who does multiple projects. A company like Capcom(who has been financially struggling in the past year) is going to make fewer next gen titles and devote what they can to sure successses. As long at the game comes out, I will wait years if the game is anything like RE 4.

My thoughts exactly. That's probably the most polished game this fading generation will see (keep in mind I don't play RPGs, so those aren't even contenders as far as I'm concerned).

I had no idea that Resident Evil 4 took five years to make. That's pretty long by console standards. I guess it was, as others have said, one of the best - if not the best game - of the last (current?) generation, so it was certainly time well spent.
The best games always take the longest to arrive (Half-Life 2), but then so do the worst (Honestly, Duke Nukem Forever won't live up to the hype!).

Im thinking we could see RE5 within 3-4 years time at earliest, but thats fine with me if they reach the quality of RE4 it will be well worth the wait. Plus it will definetely be another year before Im able to pick up a PS3 or Xbox360.
Also I consider Code Veronica the last TRUE Resident Evil before RE4 so I look at it that RE4 was in Development for around to 6 years than 4-5 but Im sure a that the RE-starting a couple times then moving from platform (starting out as a PS2 project then to Gamecube) to platform added at LEAST 2 years to the development cycle.

I had no idea that it originally started life on the PlayStation 2! Seems funny that they spent time moving it over the GameCube, only to then spend more time porting it back to the PS2!

I could be wrong about this but the way I remember it was RE4 starting out as a PS2 specific project then when the ill-fated CAPCOM 5/RE exclusive deals were made between Nintendo and Capcom RE4 went "exclusively" to the Gamecube and the code and engine etc were ported over to cube development and then in the end of course it was ported BACK to the PS2, making only 2 REs truly exclusive thus far to the Gamecube RE0 and the excellent REmake.

Forgetting Lost Planet?
Personally, I think we'll do just fine. Lost Planet should arrive around winter '07 (the closer part - I don't know if it's spring '07 or the end of 06).

Wouldn't the last true RE be Resident Evil 0?

Actually RE4 was in development 4 different times. The first attempt became Devil May Cry, then there were another 2 that were cancelled and then we got the final GC copy.
That kind of fucking around, really adds to the dev time.

In totally unrelated news, I have high hopes for Tomb Raider Legend. Gamestop and IGN both have a hands on up and it sounds great.

Hate to get off-topic, but can someone link me to wherever they got the info about Capcom, or freshen me up? I must have missed that they were having troubles.

I stand corrected! Diakatana was awesome, Daikatana - however - was not!

Disappointed as you may be, that game does not belong in the same category as the others. Tomb Raider and Daikatana were fundamentally broken and barely playable.

Not to mention complete fiscal failures.
Let's not forget that this is Capcom. I'd much rather have them take there time in order to do it right rather then pump 'em out like they do with Mega Man.

This really dosn't surprise me at all, like everyone said, RE4 took so long to make, and RE5 will be well worth the wait. I am still not sure who the main character will be?!?
