Confession time... I'm not a Mega Man fan. Burn me at the stake! It isn't that I dislike the series (though I dislike what Capcom have done with it in recent years, and I've never understood the thinking behind the names), I just haven't ever got into it. So I was surprised at just how closely I have been following the new (not really 'new') Mega Man games on the PSP.
And WOW, the reviews for Mega Man Maverick Hunter X are in, over at GameSpy and Gamespot, and the verdict is very impressive. The visuals just get better and better everytime I look at them, and I bet they animate just as nicely. And even though I'm not a fan of the series, the bonus unlockables (I won't ruin them for you) sound cool!
Hopefully this is a sign of good things to come for the PSP. This may still be a port of some kind, but I still want it bad. A must-have it would seem!

Wait, it's JUST Mega Man X redone? Am I reading that right? And it's $30? Some one stop me if I am wrong, I know not of the ways of the PSP...

Looks like the same old game with updated graphics. Bummer.

Oh, and I only see it listed for $39.99. I think I just puked in my mouth.

Only $29.99, but that's still too much. I'd wait for it to drop under $20, which you KNOW it will. I think that they timed the release poorly, with the excellent Mega Man X Collection that came out earlier this month.

Why would anyone buy this when you can get the Megaman X collection for the same price ($29.99)? I realize that most PSP owners are desperate to buy something new, but c'mon. Doesn't anyone else smell the rip-off?

Hence, my vomit. Still, at 29.99, I'd gag on it a little to keep it down.

It looks great! Yet if this turns out to be the exact same game from SNES (which all signs are pointing to), then I'm going to stick with the SNES original or the Cube/PSX MMX Collection

I'm disappointed that the level design hasn't been remixed. There was some excellent potential in tweaking the difficulty, lengthening the stages or at least adding some new enemies/obstacles. As it is, I can breeze through the SNES version in a couple of hours.
Long time fans may be pulled in by the available insight into Vile/Vava's origins, I know I am. I was considering getting a PSP strictly for this and the classic Mega Man remake, but if they're mostly just graphical retooling I am rethinking that plan.

Graphically I can't get over how well the transition to 3-D went. Mega Man games have always had a slightly cartoony edge to them, but all of the enemies look great (and theyre animated well too!).
I don't know if anyone else watched some of the gameplay videos over at Gamespot, but one thing really irked me. Whenever Mega Man fires one of his special weapons, a sound clip of him saying the name of the weapon plays. Every time. Is this really necessary? It's freakin' annoying, especially when there's only one audio clip. You'd think in this day and age we could just ditch concepts like this.
In any event, I'm not a huge MMX series fan but I did get a lot of play out of the first game, so I'm sort of in the same boat at Bratwurst here. Chances are I could blow through this game in one night, so I'd really have to buy it on the merits of its extra content, which don't sell me at the moment. I'll wait for the inevitable price drop.
EDIT: Toastyfrog has echoed my complaint about the voiceacting during special weapon use in his review at 1UP. (http://www.1up.com/do/reviewPage?cId=3147616&did=1)

So far this game is nice, yes it is a touched up version of the snes ver, but the cinematics are quite nice, and the added bonus of playing through the game as VILE "X's" nemesis, is a nice option, its not bad for 30 bucks... but thats just me.

I hear you, but there *is* something to say about having an old school game you really enjoy in portable format as opposed to on a console (hence the popularity in these parts with emulation on the PSP).
I shelled out similar dough to have two of my favourite SNES games in portable form on the GBA, and I don't regret it one bit (SMW & Zelda: LTTP)
(FWIW, I'm not planning on buying this though - I appreciate Mega Man's popularity but I've never played a MMX game and if I do decide to do so, I'll probably buy the PS2 version :) )

Eventually it'll drop to a reasonable price, and eventually I'll end up getting it. I didn't even want a PSP originally, but it seems Sony wants me to buy one w/all these MM games they're putting on it. So fine Sony have it your way, I'll sit and wait and when I'm happy w/the prices you'll get your wish.

The Fry's local to me has it advertised at $24.99. I've never really played any of the MegaMan games, so would this be a good starting point?

It's fun, I won't lie. I played it yesterday and had a blast. It's just Mega Man X with some spruced up graphics and remixed music, good stuff.
