View Full Version : PSP D-Pad attatchment from Capcom?

I heard that in Japan, Capcom has released a special D-pad attachment thing for the PSP. It attatches onto the existing D-Pad and makes the D-Pad controls more accurate, with better diagonals.

Anybody heard anything about this? This one guy said that he has it, and that it helps tremendously with fighting games like Darkstalkers, but that it's kinda ugly, and once you put it on, you can't get it off. It also supposedly voids the warranty of the PSP.

The main thing that I was thinking about when I heard about this is EMULATION!!!!! Playing old school 2D games on the PSP can be somewhat frustrating with that D-Pad, and I would imagine that this attatchment would improve that dramatically. Anybody seen a picture of this thing anywhere?

This is what IGN had to say back in December:

http://psp.ign.com/articles/673/673821p1.html

I couldn't find one for sale without the game in the few places I looked.

This would make THUG2 actually playable as well.

If you pre-order Alpha 3 through Capcom's site, you'll be getting one. That's the only way to get one in the US.

Does go on the outside of the PSP, or does the PSP have to be opened for it to be installed?

If the former and not the latter, I don't see how this could void any warranties.

You've answered your own question then, haven't you? Take a look at the product - there's no way it would go outside anything.

Has anybody seen a picture of the actual real thing anywhere? I want to see what the thing actually looks like.

From what I've read, it sticks (too well apparently) over the current pad. Once it's on, it's on. That's where the warranty issue comes in.

That circular bit surrounding the pad suggests it's got to go under the faceplate, which is where I see it voiding the warranty. I could be totally wrong, but I look at my PSP and I see the round bit *it* currently has coming off to make room.

(The problem with the current pad being that diagonals don't work well because each direction is seperate. I can't see how you'd join 'em effectively by sitting on top of the pad, and even if it did I'm sure you *could* pry the thing off no matter how stuck it go (i.e. start cutting at it) so I don't buy that argument)

id assume it pops over the stick. I've seen all kinds of sticks on top of or replaceing the old stick. I think you can either putt it off or put new ones on top of it. I doubt they would sell something that voids a warrenty or makes you open it.

The more I think of it, the more I think you're probably right and, as always, I'm an idiot :)

It fits on top of the system, but you do use adhesive to apply it so it doesnt come off. Still its supposed to be a billion times better than the regular one.

Then why only make it a limited edition item? If it's that good of an accessory, Capcom should include one with EVERY fighting game for PSP they make. The only reason why I won't buy fighting games for the PSP is because of the crappy d-pad.

Took the words right out of my mouth. The d-pad seems fine. Not the best but still not as bad as Gamecube's.

Even though that thing is pretty ugly looking after you apply it, I'm sure that it would help dramatically with playing old school games via emulators. I'm a huge platformer junkie, and I would love to have a decent D-pad to use. If I could get one of these things seperately, without having to buy that game, then I would probably do it. I'm more about function than fashion. I'm also thinking about getting one of those analog nub extenders.

Depends on how old school you get - I prefer a 4-way digital controller to an 8-way one most of the time for the truly old school stuff. :)

Reminds me of that thing that came with Pac Man for NGPC.
