Did it do all that in the U.S. alone? I thought I heard its sales were pretty poor. Sad, cause it is a very very good game.

Last I heard, yeah. It did terrible in comparison to the Japanese launch, obviously. I think I read it in GI today in one of the reader letters.

Where's Resident Evil 4? Was it released too late in the year to qualify? It's the #1 best-selling Gamecube title of 2005.

... and I didn't buy a single one of 'em. Shucks.

Blech, what a load of dreck. I think I have or plan on getting like 4-5 of those games total. And people bitch about releasing the same sports game over and over again ever year. I suppose this is why they do it.

which ironically enough would put it at 17th place in comparison with 615,000 copies i believe, maybe it hasn't sold more than 300,000 yet on the ps2?

Isn't it a shame? 50 Cent takes the 20th spot and Shadow of the Colussus doesn't even rank.
Such a shame.

Great to see Sly 3 did pretty well overall. Also nice to see Sonic Mega Collection Plus so high up there. Factor in Mercenaries, Burnout 3, God of War, and LEGO Star Wars and you realize that there just might be hope for humanity afterall.
been meaning to give those Ratchet and Clank games a go, too.

It's missing Dragon Quest VIII. I know it pushed over 400k units.
Dragon Quest 8 sold 450,000 units in Japan. 40,000 units in the US.
By comparison, Dragon Quest 7 sold over 3,000,000 units in the first 3 days in japan.

And that's why it only launches on weekends. God damn that's a lot of units.

No no no, DQ8 is already in the millions in Japan... or maybe I misread it as DQ7...

13. Need for Speed Most Wanted (I own the Black Edition, but whatever)
15. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

What a slow year for games.
Considering that the new generation is starting, I would call it a calm before the storm.
I am not surprised to see sports games up there, since they are insanely popular. I just wish more of the masses would pay attention to amazing games like DQ8 and Shadow of the Colossus.

What a shitty list of games IMO. Not a single RPG on it.

as i mentioned in the gamecube sales thread, there are no 100 percent accurate numbers tracking game sales. i wouldnt be surprised if these numbers were generated by tracking the sales of games at box retailers only.

You mean RPG's aren't in the eye of mainstream america? NO WAY.

Wow, the highest 2 games I own on that list are 10. God of War and 19. Burnout 3. I'm surprised Devil May Cry 3 was so low -- the first was a million+ seller, right?
I think if they put out a list of the bottom 10 games released this year i'd probably own most of 'em ;)

Count me among those who have very few of those games. I'm suprised (but really not) that Madden nearly outsold #2 by 2-1. The older I get, the more I realize how much the EA Sports title blow donkey balls. The only one I considered picking up was NCAA Football because I love to run dynasties and just recruit and sim the games.
I own a copy of San Andreas, but I bought it in 2004, so I guess that doesn't count here. I've got Smackdown vs. Raw, but I don't think preowned counts either. Beyond that, I've played quite a bit of Burnout 3 on the friend's Xbox. Smackdown vs. Raw 06 looks interesting, same with Lego Star Wars and American Wasteland, but I can't see myself picking any of those up until the used copies drop in price.
All in all, I agree that it's a pretty lousy list... and probably explains why I very rarely buy new games.

What's surprising to me on a personal level is having only 3 titles from this list (GTA: SA, Lego SW, and Sonic MC+). I have *way* more PS2 titles than GameCube titles (3:1 or 4:1ish), and yet I had 2 titles on it's 15 title list (neither of which I bought this year mind you, unlike 2 of the PS2 titles above).
And people bitch about releasing the same sports game over and over again ever year. I suppose this is why they do it.
You of course meant to say that people *here* bitch about sports games, and that people who post here are hardly representative of the game buying public as a whole (otherwise the list *would* be full of RPGs, SHMUPs, and Retro Collections :) ).

I'm surprised Lego Star Wars is so high on the list. I had no idea it was that popular.
Also, World Championship Poker? The Hell? You don't need to spend money to play electronic poker. There are countless websites on the internet that let you do that for free.

Shit, if shmups and rpgs were leading the list people would be pissed that it was populated with nothing but run of the mill maniac Cave crap and unoriginal rpgs featuring kids saving the world :)

But hey, at least a lot of RPGs are getting released in the US. When the hell are shmups going to make the big jump over? We're getting a slow trickle over (Shikigami no Shiro...R Type Final...Gradius V...Shikigami no Shiro II...), but god damn if I wouldn't punch a nun for US versions of everything else getting released (Homura, Ibara, ESPGaluda, Dodonpachi Daioujou, Psyvariar, Gigawing Generation, Raiden III, etc). Buy the licences, spend roughly 10-15 minutes on translating the text, a few hours on script insertion, and then sell them at the "industry standard" bargain bin price of $20.
Hell, even XS Games could pull it off (too bad they managed to fuck up Gunbird and Shikigami no Shiro by halfassing them to the extreme. somehow). MY NAME IS KO! BEATING DOWN EVIL!

Oh wow! It's all the games I spent hours constantly recasing at work. GOD...50 copies of madden for ps2 cased...next day GONE.
I'm surprised Lego Star Wars is so high on the list. I had no idea it was that popular.

What's scary, is this list tells no lies. Lego star wars was a 30 dollar game at xmas time, and 30 dollar games don't need to be cased, we can just throw them right out. It was cheap and easy to put out, and MAN OH MAN, that game sold like crazy. The poker games were another very popular thing. Cheap, and lots of average joe gamer's always grab a poker game.

I think Dragon Quest 8 sales have been picking up via word of mouth... Not sure though...
