View Full Version : LOL... eBay attempt... PHAILED

I remember in the old days when you sent a Q to a seller and it was in private. Nowadays I think it's either automatic or that the seller has the option to publicly display any Q&A's... I never liked this because it revealed that someone out there was indeed interested, and may alert the more casual bidders that hmmm, I better toughen up for this auction. Of course, if it's in demand it's in demand. But the least publicity you can get as a bidder, the better.
I found this in one auction, and it made me laugh at the potential buyer. The way he words everything. The way he gave directions, and the way he gives himself a cushion for leaving feedback... obviously a keen eBay user, but still, because of the failed attempt and the seller posting it publicly, I just had to laugh. LOL
Q: Hello, there! As one of the bidders on this auction, we were wondering if you would be willing to end it early --- for $100 + shipping? This could be done in two steps: 1. Our entering the above high bid, and then… 2. You immediately ending it by choosing the (Sell to high bidder) option that sellers have. That way we would still be working within the eBay system with its added safety of the feedback system, etc. If you're not sure how to do this, we would be happy to send you some easy-to-follow directions. Please let us know. Thanks! Jerry and James
A: Sorry, I don't like doing that. Thx for the interest though.

I've had people ask me to end auctions early. In all those cases, the auctions ended considerably higher than what they offered. I mentioned this once on this board, and got flamed a bit because I thought it was against eBay's rules, when it wasn't. (Not my finest moment, I admit.)
Anyway, I wrote a reply shaming a bidder for trying to do that. I believe that I said it was unfair to other people who wanted to buy the item. I guess that put people off. :P

I never mind when people send offers. I won't end the auction early if someone has already placed a bid though. I had an offer for an XBOX system the other day that I should have accepted. I think the auction ended almost the same price so I would have saved Final Value Fees. The public question thing is good too. You only have to answer questions one time then.

Yeah dont end auctions early, I had a rare GhettoBlaster on eBay once, I knew it was pretty rare and I was offered about £80, I accepted and shipped it.
The day after I sent it, I got about three more emails about it, turned out LOTS of people were waiting for this, the thing was rare as hens teeth, if I'd of left it on, I could of got £250-£300 for it.
Only ONCE, was I offered more than something was actually worth (it was for a common game)
Thing is, now you can see how many people are "watching" and item, if you get an offer, you know how much interest there is.. anything with 15+ watchers is bound to sell fairly high..

yeah, the whole eBay hunt game is fascinating to me, especially in the last minute... thinking about how many others all over the world are looking at the exact same auction as you are... then to be the one on top at the end, top stuff.

Most of my auctions get about 20+ watchers, and nobody bids. ;_;

I bet they're mostly fellow DP'ers who automatically hit the watch button for every auction advertised here.

I always get questions like those and love posting them publically.

Last week some guy offered $50+shipping for a boxed CDX with like 10 games. It was funny, I think it ended for $190?
BTW, wtf is a GhettoBlaster? Sounds like fun.

Last spring, a guy offered me $10 + shipping MINUTES after I listed a boxed copy of Mega Man X3. Very convincingly, he told me that considering the game's age, it was a fair offer. LOL The auction finally ended at around $100.

Q: Hello, there! I see you made a mistake in your auction. You listed Mario 64 but your picture is Mario Sunshine. Thought you'd like to know so you can fix the error.
A: Don't waste my time with questions like these!
No surprise. He got no bids. Nbody wants to deal with a Rude seller.

Honest rude seller > hidden rude seller
I rather deal with the devil I know, then the devil I don't (deal by not dealing with, LOL)
