I bought this on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ATARI-2600-game-PC-Board-with-EPROM_W0QQitemZ8756118 083QQcategoryZ1247QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZVie wItem
I know a lot about nes and snes, but I know nothing about atari. The eprom on the board is what caught my eye. I'm hoping it might be a proto or at least an official development board. Is there anyone who might have some more information?

Ok, that link doesn't work. It's item number 8756118083
Here's a second attempt at the link:

With a little luck, you got a finished (sticker says "final") prototype.
Let us know what's on it.

It's the guts of an Atari 2600 Cartridge with 'a game' (probably a burned ROM) installed on it.
If you own an Atari 2600 or Atari XE computer, you can probably run it (provided it works - he says 'as is')
You could hope that (if it runs) it'll display the info you want on bootup.
Yay! Gotta love retro junk! :)

Hi, thanks for your info. I collect nintendo developer's boards, but I know nothing about atari.
Is it a developer's cart or is it a normal board? (were there developer's board for the 2600?)
Should I be able to dump it with a normal eprom programmer? Is there an emulator you would suggest since I don't have a 2600?
It was 5 bucks. I really don't expect much out of it, but the unknown is exciting!

I got it today and dumped it. It's like nothing I've ever seen before. Look at this amazing special effect. It's like the fabric of space and time is being ripped.

O_O
Sorry guys, but I couldn't resist. I haven't gotten the cartridge yet. Hopefully, you all will still believe me if it really does turn out to be something cool! :P
I'm sorry for being an atari newbie, but I have some more questions? (anybody want to ask me questions about NES dev carts so that I can get my ego back?)
Wrong amount of pins? Are you telling me that there was an atari development system with a different number of pins?
From the picture, it looks like there used to be a 2nd chip on the board (looks like something was unsoldered). Is it probably that I only have half a game? (if it even works)
I don't see any kind of MMC chips (what are they called for atari? bankswitching chips?). Does this mean the game must be 4k or less? Does only 1 of 2 chips probably mean a 2k game if complete?
Thanks for your help. I apreciate it!

Hah. Yeah, I was hoping you'd say you were just yankin' our chain (and obviously so as that's an emulator shot, and you don't have a dumper).
As Stonic says...it's probably a home computer cart.
Hope it's something cool, however unlikely that may be... LOL

just for reference (only because your post seems to say you're still a bit confused on this front...)
there are many "atari" systems out there...
Atari 400/800/XL (all home computer systems that took carts)
Atari 2600
Atari 5200
Atari 7800
no idea which it would be for besides -not- being a 2600 cart. I'm not too knowledgable on Atari either :D

I saw the (c) 79 on the back which would fit the older timeline. I just figured it was like a nes dev cart that almost all say (c) 85 or 87.
Thanks for slowly bring me up to speed. I'll post more here when I know more. I know in my head that it's either going to be bitrotted, something stupid, or something extremely well known. But there's alway a part that... :D

The allusion to the now-infamous Bio Force Ape thread was amazing. Bravo sir.
