It's probably been a *long* time since a lot of you played SA, but I'm curious how many tried and gave up and how many succeeded?

I've had the game since Xmas 2004, but stopped playing it in March of 2005 for whatever reason (not the game itself though - I love it *way* more than the other GTAs, I just go through phases where I don't play much).

Anyway, I've been playing it again for the past couple of months or so and tried the aforementioned "Supply Lines" mission last night. What a nightmare. What's really frustrating is that I spent a good chunk of time raising the 30 Grand to buy the store in the first place (when I first arrived in San Fierro I bought a safe house, not knowing this would come up). So after doing all of that to hit what I now know is the toughest mission there is is a bit overwhelming.

(In order to raise the dough I did all of the trucking missions I could and the valet side mission, which I really, *really* enjoyed. Apparantly I'm a born valet :D).

I'm gonna keep trying until I get it dammit (I didn't raise 30 grand to *QUIT*) - but I want to hear your horror stories. How many attempts? 20? 50? 100? Did you update your piloting skills first? Did it help? How many controllers did you go through? I know there are some good stories out there.

I don't think I've gotten quite that far...however, there's a point where you're essentially forced to 'start over' before you get to San Fierro, where I immediately bought a safe house (and an expensive one at that) so I could save, not realizing that there was already a save point right there. I've had money woes ever since.

It took me about 20 - 35 tries. Somewhere in there. What's really bullshit though is the xbox version; Rockstar gave the plane twice the amoutn of fuel to complete the mission. Here's what I did though.

As soon as you start, waste the van in front of you. Then shoot at the other guy down the street, but don't kill him. Then go south to the next van, waste it, and land your plane and face towards the direction you came. The van you shot at (but didn't kill), will chase you down to that location, so blow him away when he does. Now simply head north and try to kill the last two targets as fast as possible. The biker guy is a bit tough. You should now have enough fuel to land. Dive bomb that fucking maker and SAVE before some random event in SA screws you over.

Geez, if I'd've known this I might've given up my PS2 progress and started over on the Xbox! :)

Is this the mission with the little RC plane and the vans/bikes? It's been awhile, but that was probably the hardest mission in the ps2 version. Took me a good while but I got it after about 10 or so tries.

The pc version got more fuel too... Passed that the first try.

What's so special about the Xbox version that lets you do it in 3-5 tries? I was stuck on that mission for 2-3 days before I finally beat it (on Xbox). Was a total pain in the ass.

Did you read the thread?

A couple of things to keep in mind to make this mission easier:

1) the couriers won't run or shoot at you until you fire at them, so basically you can land directly in front or behind them and fire away.

2) the plane doesn't use fuel if you aren't acclerating, so get to a suitable height and coast as much as possible. I beat the PS2 version and still had over half my fuel left.

The Xbox version does seem easier. I think they tweaked this and a couple of other missions. I'm playing through it again, and some of the missions that were a hassle on PS2 like "Wrong Side of the Tracks" are pretty easy.

Good luck on "Supply Lines"... Zero's next mission (thankfully, his last) "New Model Army" is a pain in the ass since you have to use a crappy RC chopper with Zero whining the entire time... I really hate David Cross after this game :D

Oh, BTW, I just found a little something extra. After you beat Zero's missions, if you go to the back of his shop, there's a computer that you can use to play the "Beefy Baron" mini-game. You just fly the plane around and kill courier vans for points. It doesn't add anything to your percentage. And if you go down the alley on the side of his shop, there will be a go-kart and magnum pistol, which can kill even SWAT guys in one or two shots.

Indeed! That man's mission's made me grow hatred for him as well. Oh well, at least he died HORRIBLY in Men in Black, so justice was already served a few years prior.

I can't stress this point enough. Everything I've looked at online mentions using the correct route, and *nobody* mentions conserving fuel by coasting. I think, in part, because nothing is ever mentioned in the game as to how you use fuel. You don't have to hold the X button the whole time you're flying!

Eh, maybe 20 tries or so. It's a pain, but it's certainly do-able on the PS2 version.

Enjoy the rest of the game now that you've passed that mission. I know I did.

Yep, it also helps a hell of a lot during the flying school... just get your plane to a decent height and lay off the gas or else you will over steer... it's a lot easier to get thru the coronas.

I played through the PC version. Not sure how long I used, about 2 weeks i think.
The hardest missions for me was to fly. I remeber the training missions, god damnit I almost gave up, tried again and again and again. Started looking for cheats to skip it etc. but couldnt find any hehe. But I finaly did it :)

"It took me 1 try on PS2 and 2 on PC. Its not that hard"

Good for you that it's not hard for you, but it obviously is for most people.

Driving a 60s Formula One car around the Nurburgring in Grand Prix Legends is easy for me, but it's still considered the toughest PC racing game made. It all depends on the individual. :)

I got distracted by the driving school missions (I took a break from Supply Lines to do Deconstruction, and once I saw the driving school I couldn't stop until I had finished them all), but I've finally beat it.

I was *so* low on fuel as I landed on the rooftop I thought for sure I was gonna be inches away and then be told I was out of gas!

Feels good to have it done, and it didn't take that many tries after I knew which route I wanted to take (van first, loop around through park and hit cyclist, then get other van on his own, then loop towards the two together, conserving fuel, etc).

I'm not looking forward to flight school at this point, but I'm still stoked about moving myself forward until I hit Los Venturas :)
