you lose an auction but you raised the final price of the game quite a bit? I know people who get twisted enjoyment out of that. "I lost, but at least the high bidder is no longer getting a bargain!"

Sometimes when I get an email from eBay saying I won something I'll see someone bidded and pushed me to my max. I'm happy I won, and since it's my max I can't bitch, but some bargains become average deals. I bet those people were happy that at least I had to pay more. LOL

No, not generally.

I wouldn't say I really feel good about it. However, I do find some consolation in knowing that I at least bid my maximum, but someone else just wanted it more. Now if I FORGET to bid, and it sells for way cheaper than what my max would have been, then I wind up kicking myself for forgetting. Therefore, in a round-about way, since driving up the price keeps me from kicking myself, I guess it makes me feel a little better, but definitely not "good"...

peas, I hate the feeling of forgetting to bid on an auction and seeing it ended WAY below average going rate. I remember one time I forgot to bid on "METAL BLACK" for Saturn, I checked on it and found it had only 1 bidder, who won it for $5 SHIPPED. I was so pissed. Granted, there's no guarantee he didn't, say, put down a max of 40.00 but you never know. His max could have been 99 cents.

I think I didn't forgive myself for about a week. That was probably the longest time I stayed "pissed" over a missed auction. It's ALWAYS the ones you forget about that seem to go super cheap, and the ones you remember -- nothing earth-shaking... funny how that is...

Well, if nothing else, it's the ones you forget about that go for cheap that truly stick out and leave that lasting impression. I've had a number of auctions that I forgot about, but went for higher than what I would've paid. Although I experience a great sense of relief when this happens, these are largely forgettable.

Regarding the scenario you experienced, my sincerest condolences... I feel your pain. :(

No. What do I care? Not my money.

And if I forget it's disappointing but I just look for the next cheaper bargain.

I think it is fine to bid on an auction if you want the item. But I see some people bidding up an auction just to see their name on the bidders list, or to make the item sell for higher than it should have.
