I just got an FF XI PS2 HDD for cheap and was wondering if I were to use it in my PC and format it (if it isn't locked or anything) would I then be able to reinstall everything back onto to it for use in a PS2 using the discs that came with it or would it be more complicated than that?

I know that you can format it with HD Advance but I never bothered checking out the official Sony software that came with it.

Never tried setting up multiple partitions on that one, but I don't see why it wouldn't be possible. It's just a standard maxtor 40gig hard drive, and setting up any other hard drive to work properly with ps2 games that officially support it involves creating an extra partition for them.

I know you can format the drive for use in the average PC, but it would probably blow away some of the proprietary Sony stuff on the drive. Once you do that, I don't think the Sony HD utility disc will recognize it as their drive, so you might not be able to restore it back to proper PS2 use.

You can always reformat it for the PS2 if you need to with freely available tools
