How do you differentiate between the actual demo and the pack-in? I have one of these carts COMPLETE (box is a peice of sh*t, but the rest is fine), and I would like to know whether I got something rare or not.

If it's Sonic 2, you just got the most common Sega Genesis game ever made.

Im not into Genesis/Mega Drive, but i doubt that a not-for-resale cart is the most common cart. Did these games come complte btw? Maybe someone took the retail box and manual and put a not-for-resale cart inside.

No, they came complete. I have a Sonic 1 not for resale complete, and it says it on the box and the cart.

Being a demo collector I have found...

Sega did not have any true demos (like nintendo does) excpet for one, which is Toy Story (which I have). At that Toy Story demo cart is also extremely hard to find, I have only seen mine and 2 others. In the demo Genesis display most often it was just a complete copy of the game sega gave to stores for use.
So your sonic is worth about .01 sorry.

I wasn't referring to a demo or display version.. I was talking about the pack-in.

All I want to know is if my cart is the actual demo or just the pack-in. I don't f*cking give a f*ck about no f*cking toy-story bull-sh*t :/.

Seriously, though: is there any way of identifying the two? Did they have seperate serial-numbers? Did the one version come complete and the other cart-only? com'n, I really need some help here!!!!!

[btw, it's NOT sonic 2]

Its the pack in. They just said demo on the pack in carts so they couldnt be returned to stores. They'd come complete and just say Demo cart to distingush that they came out of a System bundle.

Not much sense in all that... Is your similar to this:

Link (http://cgi.ebay.com/SONIC-THE-HEDGEHOG-Sega-Genesis-COMPLETE-Like-New_W0QQitemZ8255617487QQcategoryZ62053QQtcZphotoQ QrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)

If so, Its the pack in game. And based on what icarwngs said, it doesnt look like there *is* a sonic *demo* game.

This is what the Sonic pack-in looks like:

I think the going rate around here is $0.99.

If you see "Not for Resale" on the label and try to sell it you will spontaneously combust.

Sonic 2 is the Genesis' Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt. Or Combat.

I'll bet this is why they don't give you games with the system anymore. Because they become so plentiful you could fill a quarry with them.

Still, Sonic 2 is an awesome game.

They do give you games with the system now, more then ever.

When genesis first came out it had no game attached to it, you only remember it so becasue genesis after the first little while had sonic most of the time.

These days they just have more variety or let you choose.

I mean pack-ins. Sure they occur these days, but a lot of the time at launch you don't get pack-ins. They don't give you games, they make you buy them. Then later down the line the company does include either a game free or a demo of a game. Usually it's a game that sucks so much they want to dump it off. ;)

In other words, it's not standard anymore.

The X-Box has had Tetris, Halo, Sega GT 2002, Jet Set Radio, Panzer Dragoon Orta, and a few others I cant think of packed in with it.

The PS2 has had Grand Turismo 3 and a few others I cant think of as well packed in.

Gamecube has had a number of mario kart games packed in as well zelda games in adition to a good number of other games.

Remind me again, which of these was the "sucks" games please? So far from what I see, it looks rather sweet. True, none of these games are Mario/Duck hunt, Super Mario World, Sonic 2, or tetris (ok, one of them actualy IS tetris) but from my point of view, they look like some great games to play. I could be mistaken.

Like I said man, its the same with all consoles, genesis, nes, master system, snes, non of these systems came with pack-in games when they first launched, mario-world was only added to the snes after a bit, same with the rest of them.

I think the difference is that all of these bundles (except the GC) were sold at inflated prices. You got the games, but you paid for them.
