I remember playing this game way back in the day when I had Sega Channel. Each month they'd generally had a category called "Fantasy Realm" or something like that, which contained RPG games.

In this game I remember you started off as this young kid, I think.. He might've had blue hair. Anyway, you started off in this classroom, and your teacher was like a wizard or something.. and the wizard takes you and your classmates in a cave to do battle I think. It's a bit hazy... Anyone have a clue?

Wonderboy had blue hair I think. So it could be one of the Wonderboy games.

No, no. It was a top-down view game.

If the kid had blonde hair and the cave was the first floor of a tower you'd have just described Shining Force 2.

The female elf priest classmate named Sarah however, DID have blue hair.

That sounds a lot like Shining Force II to me.

EDIT: Jinx!

Yep, this is totally it. Like I said, my memory was a little hazy. Thanks.

By the way... is this game hard to find? I mean is it expensive? I have to get it.. it gives me that feeling of nostalgia.

cart only, last time I checked, could range from 10-20 on the Bay, while a complete game could nail around 20-45 depending on how heated bidders are.

Worth every penny, however.

its a relatively sought after game.

probably will cost around 20-40$ depending on how complete you want it.

the later rpgs on genesis seem to go for quite a bit, you might also want to look into the first shining force as well, both were incredibly well made games (the later saturn sequels were kinda blah though)

Crap, I was hoping for like... 2-3 bucks... And I generally only order games from the internet if they are complete..

I read somewhere once that Shining Force is more in the vein of a tacticall game than an RPG. However, I also was told the same thing about Suikoden and apparently it's not the same thing at all. Can someone explain what kind of game Shining Force actually is? I'd like to know whether I'd be interested in it.

Other MD games I own like that are Landstalker, Faery Tale Adventure and Phantasy Star II & IV. Are the SF games like any of these?

The shining force games are a mix of tactics and rpg. You lead a team of characters in battle and as they defeat monsters/ evil people they level up. It isn't really in either category, it kindof fits in both.

It's a strategy rpg in the same sense as Final Fantasy Tactics. Suikoden is a standard rpg, unless they were talking about Suikoden Tactics. Anyway, the only differences between a standard rpg and a tactical rpg are the battles are played out differently. Everything else is pretty much the same.

They're similar to the Phantasy Star games. The only difference is the battle system. In SF you have a top down view during battles and you take turns moving your characters on the map, sorta like chess. When you get close to an enemy, you can attack, use magic, items etc. In-between battles the game plays just like PS.

Are you sure you're not thinking of Breath of Fire 2 for the SNES?

No, I'm positive it was for Genesis.. because I played it on Sega Channel.

Shining Force II is it, I'm sure of it now.
