i found a complete copy of this game yesterday at a thrift store. now im definitely not a huge NES collector, but this game surprised me, because i believed i had atleast heard of every game for NES at one time or another. does anyone have any interesting info on this game? is it particularly hard to find complete? i found the screenshots on the back of the box interesting, because from what i could tell the main character looks somewhat like the little witch from the cotton titles, though i doubt they are in any way related.
so help me out guys, is this title a hidden gem in the huge library of NES games, or is it just an obscure poor game that never got any love?

I think it's an above average game. It's clearly a Mega Man clone. I seem to remember the difficulty being pretty high on this one, however.

good game, like the previous poster said its rather hard.
it was also heavily butcherd from the original japanese version, notably it got the mobile light force treatment.
but the gameplay is still the same and worth playing if you don't get frustrated very easily.

Most definitely a Mega Man clone, only not as good. Still since you picked it up, its worth a play. Not terrible, but not really on the same level as Mega Man. If you go into this one thinking it'll feel and play like Mega Man, then I promise you will be dissapointed. If you approach it without any real expectations, you will notice the similarities right away, but hopefully judge it in its own unique way. Not sure I would classify it as a hidden gem, but Krion Conquest is a nice little title in its own right.

Sucky Megaman clone; 'nuff said. I own the game myself: It's good for a laugh or two, but nothing more :(. Pretty average, as far as rarity goes...

Check out the Japanese version which does have a translation out there, it's called Magical Doropie. The US version had the continue feature removed so it is 10x harder than the game originally was designed to be. Since the official distribution site of the patch is long gone and if you are to download it it'll most likely be prepatched, here are some excerpts from the readme included with the original patch...

8. The Krion Conquest and Some Ways In Which It Differs From Magical Doropie
------------------------------------------------------------
Word on the street is that the original plans for MD's North American release would have left it pretty much intact, with the name changed to Francesca's Wand. Why they dropped these plans is anyone's guess; perhaps this is around the time Vic Tokai decided to get out of games and the project's funding was cut. Thanks for Skrybe for the info!
Anyway, as far as TKC goes, there don't seem to be any core gameplay changes between it and MD, but nearly everything outside gameplay is different or (usually) gone. To wit:
- TKC has all cutscenes save the intro completely excised. The pretty screens introducing each round are also gone.
- The intro is actually pretty much fully translated (the content is actually closer to the original than mine--I had to fit it all in twenty lines). The Akudama Empire has become the Krion Empire, and Doropie has become Francesca. The background in the witch-summoning scene has been lightened for some reason, and even more bizarre is the new rendition of Doropie/Francesca. It's not bad, but what on earth was objectionable about the original?
- TKC has been given a standard ugly-NES-game title screen. The name is changed to The Krion Conquest, and the music has been adjusted to something more likely to appeal to 10-year-old boys (I guess). The witch with the bare shoulders is of course out, even though that has an even greater chance of appealing to 10-year-old boys.
- The hexagram or whatever that announces the end of each sublevel is absent, of course. I like the image of parents walking in on that one.
- TKC lacks MD's continue feature. You die, you die. But that's okay, as it just makes it more satisfying to finally reach the ending, right?
- TKC's ending is HORRID. I'll spoil it for you right now (without spoiling MD) so that you don't have to wonder about it. The final boss goes down, and without even the decency to fade the screen out, the words "YOU WIN!!" scroll up, followed by "CONGRATULATIONS!", an abbreviated MD credits list, and then "THE END". I notice in particular they took out the part where they thank you for playing. I think they hate us."
It's a fun game but way too hard due to a screwup in localization via increasing difficulty. The same thing happened with Naughty Kokkun's Gourmet Paradise becoming Panic Resturant.

Yeah, I actually found this game at a Game Crazy today. Picked it up cause I had never heard of it (which was surprising). To my surprise I discover that it is a Mega man rip off. Don't fix what isn't broken right?
I was ready to dismiss this as a terrible game, but having read in this thread about the localiztion screwup, I have more respect for the title. Will attempt winning the game soon. x_x LOL

Hmm, maybe I couldn't find it via searching when I made that post.
Go get the patch there then. :) Thanks.

I thought the game was actualy nice. Sure, it was basicly a Mega Man clone, but it played well enough. It also never got a sequal in the states either. Dont know if it got one in Japan, but there wasnt one here.
