Yeah, I think it's about time for the PS2 to kick the bucket... It's lasted me a good 4 or so years so it's not too upsetting.
Anyways, I know some stores offer free rentals and such. What place do you suggest I pick one up at?
Thanks :)
There was a guy at our mall tody selling them out of his trunk for $50...seriously.
Gamecrazy I believe is the store that offers free rentals with purchase of a system. Not quite sure how that works. I really haven't seen a good sale on a PS2 in some time. Possibly check the Sunday adds this week to see if any retailer is tossing in any goodies.

You could try to get a launch PS2 that constantly gives a DRE, then send it in to sony to get it fixed for free. Don't tell them that you know that it's free, though. ;)
If you decide to do so, only ship the PS2 itself. nothing else. Nothing. not the Hard drive or the Online adapter.
You won't get a mint PS2, but it'd work.

Really? I thought that they stopped doing that.
I'd love to try that, any suggestions on what to say? I've seen some info around so i'll look into it. Thanks!

I am unaware wether sony stopped doing that or not.
But look in the Technical And Restoration Society for a post titled "PS2 Disc Read Error". There is a tutorial on how to send one in to sony there.
The topic is still on the first page, so you won't need to use the search.
