View Full Version : A Ninja Converted: XBox 360

Somewhere, in some thread, there's a post I made in an X360 topic indicating that the launch games were all crap and the 360 was entirely useless to me. Pair that with the pain of actually *finding* an X360, and I was certainly not at all interested.
So yesterday, I'm hooking up my new washer/dryer when the phone rings. It's SisterNinja who's a manager at the local Target. At random that morning, five 360s appeared and were put out in the display case. She knew I was semi-interested in this Marble Blast Ultra game that all the DP kids were talking about, so she suggested that if I wanted to make the plunge, I do it now. In previous weeks, I had casually inquired about 360s at various locations and no stores ever had them.
I decided not to rush to Target, but to check out the electronics section later in the afternoon when I was going there anyway. I finished the washer/dryer, did stuff, then went out. After completing the shopping at Target, we head over and there it is - one 360 hanging out in the case. MsNinja insists that we just get it and I decide not to resist. I also pick up Dead or Alive 4, since it's the only retail game that I care about at this point.
Thus far, all I've done is set up the console and play Hexic. I haven't broken the seal on DoA4, I haven't hooked up to Live yet (though that's the next step), I've only checked out the interface and played an arcade game.
And I am thrilled.
I can't quite put my finger on it yet, but I *really* like this system. Definitely converted.

It's a quality investment, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. There is something... cool about the system thats kinda hard to put your finger on, but the complete array of options you have right out of the box is fantastic. I spent a good few days just dicking around with Windows Media Connect and downloading trailers and demos when I first got it, before really diving into PDZ and PGR3.
Enjoy it, and if you're an arcade guy be sure to snag Geometry Wars, one of the most visually enthralling games ever created.

You do realize marble blast is available for the PC right? I bought that game 3 years ago when it was on garagegames before all this gold and ultra bonus stuffs came out.

Yup. But:
a) There's supposedly more involved in this "release".
b) The last thing I want to do after working all day is sit in front of a computer. Flopping onto the couch and playing a game in the living room on a giant TV is much more fulfilling.
c) There's still much more that I will ultimately do with this unit (like download more of said arcade games and, ultimately, play DoA4).

This is exactly why I barely do any PC gaming anymore. Programming games/3d modeling/level designing on a computer is fun and all, but at some point you've gotta move away from it.

Be sure ot catch the weekend DP games, you won't be disappointed. They're invite only so you'll never have to worry about racist jackasses or 12 year olds.
Just ask Gamereviewgod. DOA4+Live+DP= Best time you'll ever have on the web.

Marble Blast Ultra = Amazing
I finished up the 200/200 achievement points on Saturday.....you WILL NOT be disappointed......I think that game alone was worth the $400 for the X360 this early in the game....and hopefully the Live Arcade is followed with more amazing games like this.....
...plus, we'll have Halo 3 eventually....hopefully it will redeem that which was Halo 2.....

That's another one of those games that won't do anything for me, but I'm sure you're right about Marble Blast - it's exactly my kind of thing.

Awesome
I think you felt the same way I do at the moment
where I don't think any of the launch titles do anything for me and I don't have a inclination about getting one
though hearing how you are enjoying it, may give me a reason to just give it a chance.
I do admit though I want to play Marble Blast and Geometry wars
so thank you for posting this. I'll have to keep a bigger eye out for one.

Jon, you've got a lot more to spend your money on before an Xbox 360. You've already promised me that you'll buy a PSP and a new PC, lol.

ClubNinja - so glad you got a 360! And might I say that DoA4 was a superb first choice in games. I had a blast playing DOA4 with weekend for 12 or so hrs. with JohnyRock, njiska, and others. Even though I got my but beat most (but not all) of the time.
Once you get on live add my GT (Meancode) so we can battle it out in DoA4 sometime.
I am very addicted to Marble Blast Ultra and Geometry Wars too.

well, i downloaded the pc demo, marble blast gold, and i have to say i am very disappointed, especially after beating ultra.....the pc version just didn't cut it for me....the 360 version left my standards very high.....

Im interested in that DP only event. Is it only for DOA4 or does it span other games on live? whats day(s) do you do this?

Right now it's only DOA4 because it's an incredibly social game, but some of use have talked about branching out into other games.
Usually it's either Fri., Sat. and/or Sun. depending on the schedule of the group.
Right now the key members are:
Myself
Johnny_Rock
S1lence
Pacmanhat
Slipdeath
Hopefully Gamereviewgod if he gets a permanant copy of the game.
And Ken (Meancode) from Blogcritics/Breaking Windows.
Since there's enough interest i'll be setting up something for the group shortly.
Make sure to add me to your friends list.

I notice a number of DP members have PGR3, or at least they have it as a played game in their Gamer Profile.
I would be up for some PGR3, or even some PDZ, even though I know how loath njiska is to that game.

Yeah, it's a lot of fun except for this one kid. I think it was... nJiska. Man, what a pain in the ass he was. He actually likes Canada!
Other than that, yeah, great night.

Hexic will keep you entertained for awhile. I'd recomend waiting until it starts to get dull before buying Marble Ultra Blast because you won't be playing too many other games after you do. Game's addictive as crack and twice the fun. :P

For a minute I thought this was about a XBox360 trained to be a ninja... Can you see it?
