.hack/infection for the PS2 came out today. Anyone buy and play this 1st part of a larger 4-part RPG yet?
It should be mentioned that .hack/infection takes place after the events of the .Hack/Sign OAV.

I will probably get it, sooner or later, if not only for the anime DVD that comes packed-in.

Is it out? I saw a demo of it and it looked pretty cool. Too bad I have LoZ: OOT, Dragons Lair 3D, and Rouge Squadron II to get through first (got it for $15). Too many games, not enough time...

It's $50 basically for a short rpg that's the 1st part of a 4-part larger story in The World. I think most that cost comes from the anime dvd included.

I'm tempted to get it, but I really want to know what it's like first.....

I'm torn! I don't know if I should play Zelda: OOT or get .Hack. Decisions Decisions...

Judging from the demo, .hack//INFECTION plays a lot like a largely medieval version of Phantasy Star Online, minus the "online" part, natch. The story's fun in a metafictional way, and the quest supposedly runs about 20 hours. I plan to pick it up, but I'm waiting until I finish Suikoden III.

get .hack now and Zelda later (when available) :) Lexicon has been playing this game since we got home. It seems interesting and comes with some anime, which is yummy. The official guide is small and contains many large holes and inaccuracies though, even early on. I'll let Lex add more later

What I really want to know is whether it plays just like a regular RPG or whether it plays exactly like an MMORPG...I'm not a big fan of MMORPGs, but if it has a killer plot, I might get it anyway...

Max, .hack plays like an MMORPG, or rather an action/RPG mimicking an online RPG. You control your character's movement and attacks while selecting items and spells from a menu, but there's a unique keyword-combining password system that lets you access different overworld sections and their resident dungeons. And when you "exit" the online game within the game, there's a e-mail account and an internet news service to play with, adding an extra air of verisimilitude to things.
Yeah, this post was just an excuse to use the word "verisimilitude," but maybe it'll help you out. If you're still curious, ask your local EB if they have any free demo discs.
Edit: The demo discs aren't included with anything. They're just promotional items.

There were free demo disks of .hack? Were they included with anything orginially or just loose? I'll have to check into that tommorrow actually, thanks for the heads up Fenris.

No demo discs at EB....but they have the game. They told me I should buy it and then exchange it if I don't like it. I told them to piss off cause I can't get my money back if I don't. I really don't know if I'll like it or not...it LOOKS damned cool, but I'm really torn. Has ANYONE played it a bit and can tell me a bit more?
