I have found a working Cabal cabinet in my area that I'm considering purchasing... The cabinet is dirty, but in fair condition (with the usual nicks and dings), and the monitor is decent as well. However, the only functional issue I've found is that the 1st player cursor can move horizontally, but not vertically. 2nd player works fine. This is the trackball version.

I'm hoping someone on this forum with arcade knowledge can share if this is a fair price for this game in the condition stated. Also, what are the possible causes of the trackball not moving vertically (no, it doesn't even move a little bit)? I realize no one can truly diagnose the problem without physically seeing the issue, but I'd just like to know if the likely cause is expensive or cheap to fix...

Thanks in advance for the input!

Price is fair, but Cabal is pretty common and what you want to spend on it is up to you, and how much you like Cabal. :)

It's either frozen bearings or bad optics. If you buy the cab, replace the rollers and bearings (or at the very least, take it apart and clean everything) and you still have the same issue, then it's the optics. I'd lean toward the optics being bad right now since you've got movement along the other axis. Unless someone poured a soda in there and it only froze one set of bearings.

Yeah, $150 isn't bad for any working game, but it's not a killer deal or anything. Like AA said, it could be a bad optic or frozen bearing, or even easier it could just be a broken/loose wire. Easy way to check that would be to swap the X and Y wires and if you still don't move when you roll the trackball up, then it's a trackball problem (or you could just tug on the wire :P ).

Thanks for the input, guys...

Pardon my ignorance, but what are "optics"? Is that an expensive thing to replace if it is what's needed?

It's just the piece inside the trackball that reads when the ball is rolled. There's one for each direction. They're not very expensive to replace, and a complete replacement trackball isn't very expensive either.

Yeah, there was a joystick and a trackball version of the game, although the trackball is much better.

Yeah, that game brings back memories. Haven't seen it in years. That game truly was a Classic. Dropped many a quarter in that cab. Those were the days!! Operation Wolf, Shinobi, Double Dragon, Bad Dudes. The arcades will never be the same. :(

I've spent many a quarter playing those games you just listed off... Those were definitely some of the greats back in the day...
