I hate tie-ins and gimmicks of any sort...

...it's all about the money-cheese.

You're a bad man James Cameron.. and you're not that great of a director either.

LOL

Yeah, I'll hold off until I see the reviews (the game, the movie, whatever). I don't begrudge anybody the means to make money, and it seems less shameful than product placement.

Thanks for the link, googlefest.

If the game is actually good, he'll have a guaranteed audience for the film.
It isn't that bad of an idea.
Games are the best medium to create worlds, and films are one of the best media for telling stories.
Too bad he hasn't made a decent flick in ages.

I'm not quite sure what's different about this concept versus, say, the Resident Evil movies. Okay, the movies follow the plot of the video games more than this sounds like it's going to, but I'm not sure that makes any difference.

To be honest I'm usually more interested when it happens the other way around (yeah movie licensed games suck often, but I *enjoy* stuff like Rogue Squadron and Battlefront, since I'm such a big fan of the universe).

It'll be interesting to see how the vision plays out - I'll certainly be paying attention!

as far as i understand it - its not a game based on a movie -- its not a movie based on a game - its a game universe inspired movie (kind of becasue the game is being released first)

Its an idea i was wondering when would happen and i was suprised when i found it (looking for atari information)

This way there is no game plot to follow while making the movie (possibly casueing an uproar from fans). Since it's a vitual universe the movie realy only needs to follow the boundries of it. Just as the people playing it create thier own story so will the movie maker.

Im interested in seeing how "balls out" this scifi universe will be

the wording is making me feel it will be a flop in my eyes - i can imagine a scifi gameing verse that would take years to make - and its going to be the thing im going to look for when i take a look at the final product - i think i will be disapointed

I had a laugh at him being called the movie guy.

I think of him as researcher, thanks to his work on the Titanic movie a decade ago that led to him becoming obsessed with exploration of the Titanic, Bismarck, and others. :)

Anything that involves him will be worth a look I think.

The games are going to be made for the movie, so I don't see why it's logical to assume they'd be farther from the movie than the RE movies were from the games (those didn't even have the same characters, for chrissakes!)

Forgot about the Titanic, it'll be worth keeping an eye on this one - but I'll wait before jumping into anything, thanks :P
