Mother 3 Theme Song Available for Download
Details on the GBA's biggest RPG since Pokemon begin leaking out.

February 7, 2006 - As promised yesterday, Mother (aka Earthbound) series producer Shigesato Itoi has started unveiling bite-sized pieces of information on the series' latest installment, Mother 3, via his website, Hobo Nikkei Itoi Shinbun (the site's name translates to "Almost Daily Itoi Newspaper").

The first two updates on the game include a look at the game's catch copy and a download of the theme song. The copy text translates to "Strange and Interesting. And also, sad. Welcome to the world of MOTHER 3."

As for the theme song, you'll have to download it for yourself by browsing on over to the site. From the main page, click on the second gift box from the top left -- the one with the 2006-02-07 date beneath it. In the window that opens up, click the red button at the bottom of the page and you'll end up downloading an MP3 version of the theme song, titled "Mother 3 Love Theme."

The site has lots of gift boxes waiting to be opened, so we'd encourage fans to keep checking back over the coming weeks.

I don't know, the Mother 1 theme song was awfully melancholy.

I'm excited for this. I'm hoping that it gets a US release, but even if it doesn't, there will probably be a translated rom available within a week or two ;p

Damn, that song is utterly beautiful. I really, really cannot wait for this game to be released.....I've been waiting for a sequel to Earthbound since 1995, and the thought of finally getting one is just incredible. I just hope it gets a US release, and also manages to live up to it's predecessor.

I'm not terribly impressed with the little song snippet you can download from that site, but that in no way is indicative of my hopes for the game. Whether or not it gets an American release, I'm just happy that it's coming out at all--I have it preordered at play-asia.com, despite the fact that I don't speak Japanese. I'll just use a walkthrough or something. Also, when I preordered Mother 1+2 from them a few years back, I got a Mr. Saturn wrist strap as a freebie, and am consequently hoping for more cool swag this time around.

Speaking of Mother 1+2, it just hit the Japanese GBA greatest hits-like series, and it can be imported new from the above site for $30. I think I originally paid $50 or so for mine. One of my favorite video game accomplishments of all time is that I beat Mother 2/Earthbound entirely in Japanese (on the Japanese Mother 1+2 cart) with no walkthrough; I have just played through the game in English so many times that I was able to pull it off. Still, the Monkey Cave was a total bitch.
