Has there ever been a game where there was say a 8bit version and a
16bit version and you prefered the older game? List the game and the reason
you like/dislike the said versions.

Id Have to sya I prefered the SMS Version a hell of a lot
more then the Genesis or Sega Cd versions, mainly due to
the fact the flowing controls seemed more suited to that version as well as
the fact I think the graphics are a bit more atmospheric then the 16bit versions.

I would also have to go for the SMS version of Alien Storm
over the Genesis version as the SMS version seems to have a higher difficulty

The SMS version of what?

I prefered the Sega CD version of Microcosim to the 3DO version. The FMV was lower res, but it had extra levels.

While I enjoyed all three games, I would much rather play Doom 1 and 2 than Doom 3 anyday. I enjoy the ability to play for brief periods of time without having to get in the mood to play. Makes my free time more enjoyable.

Not quite sure if this is what you mean but I personally liked Super Mario World on the SNES far more than anything that came after. Just more fun to me.

The original Contra was my favorite of that series, so much better than Super C or Contra Force or anything that came later.

And as a weird aside, Monopoly for the NES is my favorite also. All the added animations and so forth that were added with more technology just slowed the game down and added little. That and I can always trade my first-born for a monopoly and win the game on that version. :)

NES Puzznic over the PSX version, the psx version had poor controls and no music at all.

I enjoy Mario Kart 64 more than Mario Kart DD.
I like being able to jump. Maybe it's because I'm so used to 64 but every time something is comming up behind me in DD I want to jump so bad. I also don't like the battle mode in DD.

I enjoyed Tekken Tag Tournament as a whole a lot more than Tekken 4.

To me, Super Mario World was the pinnacle of the Mario series. I never liked Mario 64 or Mario Sunshine.

The same can be said about Zelda, I feel Zelda LttP on the SNES was the best made for any system.

Final Fantasy IV, V and VI.

The N64 version of Wetrix (Aqua Aqua). The Dreamcast and PS2 versions just didn't feel the same. I also like Virtua Racing Deluxe a whole lot more than the PS2 remake.

At the moment I like the arcade version of Contra a bit more than the NES version - at least the early stages, the arcade version falls apart near the end (it's way too short).

I think many of you are missing the point. It's supposed to be earlier versions of the same game/port. Not earlier ones in the series.

So saying you prefer Super Mario 3 on the NES more than the All-Stars version on the SNES counts. Saying you like Super Mario 3 more than Mario Sunshine does not.

So with that being said I enjoy the Turbo Grafx version of Dungeon Explorer to the Sega CD version. More Characters = More Fun

Yeah, he's talking about the same game.

I enjoy the NES versions of the Super Mario Bros. games as opposed to the Mario Allstars collection. I think that's just the nostalgia factor.

And I definately like the NES Ninja Gaiden games more than the NG Trilogy upgrades, because the music is better. The SNES version has higher quality, prettier music, but it's so soft and weak. The NES version has more primitive sound quality, but it rocks a lot harder. :rocker:

Also, when they ported the first 3 Megaman games to the Genesis with Wily Wars, while I liked the music and graphics upgrades it just didn't play like the NES versions. The fire rate was off, the control didn't seem as responsive and it just didn't have the flow that the NES games had.

Now let's talk Salamander- the NES game (Life Force) I find far more enjoyable than the Salamander Deluxe Pack arcade port.

I also have yet to find a Neo Geo game who's port is superior to the mighty Neo.

Ah... sorry to get everybody moving in the wrong direction. I'm not really sure then. Tecmo Super Bowl was essentially ported from the NES to the SNES and the NES version was light years better. Just far more playable IMO.

For pure nostalgia purposes I prefer the SMS version of Y's with it's sickly sweet synth music over the amped up TG16 CD version.

I liked Flashback on the Genesis and SNES more than the 3DO and Sega CD ports. The FMV on the disk based ones just seemed cheesy and tacked on. I prefer the prerendered polys of the cart games as it kept with the feel of the in game environments.

Also, it might not count since the systems are contemporaries but the Saturn release of X-Men Children of the Atom is vastly superior to the PSX port that was released a year or two later. More animation, larger sprites and better control.

I like the PC port myself, so I probably like the SMS version as well :)

I would take Monopoly for the NES any day. It was eons better than the later versions.

Man, we used to play that shit for hours. I remember giving my friend the controller with the broken start button. It was always a race to push the start button as soon as one of the CPU players bought a piece of property. LOL

Super Mario Bros 1 and 2(Lost Levels) - The originals have better gameplay than the SNES All-Stars versions. I can't stand the slight delay when you bash bricks. Nice graphics update though.

Chrono Trigger (PSX, comes from Final Fantasy Chronicles) isn't as good as the SNES version. One reason is for the nostalgic value that the original one has, and second reason is for the unnecessary loading times that the SNES version doesn't have. Although the cutscenes make up for some of it. I'd still prefer the SNES one though. :)

All three NES Contras were way better then any of the recent one for the Playstation and PS2. Sure the graphics were better in the newer ones but nothing beats the level design and else of play of the first titles.

First game that came to mind when I saw this thread?

Tetris.

That game keeps getting prettier with each new release, but it doesn't do it any good. Tetris is a very simple game and there is really no way to enhance the gameplay. The Tengen NES version, GB and GBC versions were the best. I have never found anything particularly interesting about any subsequent release.

Also if it counts, I usually play the SMB games on Super Mario All Stars instead of on NES.

I cried all night when I saw how slow and bastardized in everyway the PSX version of Nectaris was.

The TG-16 version though.........is still as zippy and perfect the day it was released :)

Chrono Trigger: The SNES version is alot better then the PSX port. No Load times, instant access to the menu, ect. Plus the PSX cinema scenes are cool, but they feel tacked on.

GTA3: I know the PS2 and Xbox versions are better. But for some reason I always preferred the PS2 version by far. Mainly for nostalgia and the awesome controller.

GTA:VC: Same as above.

Ninja Gaiden Trilogy: The NES versions were just better! Sound wise is the most notable difference. I thought the SNES version was a let down, considering they hardly even updated the graphics and stuff. :/

Super Mario Brothers Trilogy: Once again I always liked the NES versions much better. Graphics and sound wise. Not to mention they just felt "tighter" on the NES.

Donkey Kong Country Trilogy: The SNES beat the hell out of the GameBoy Color/GameBoy Advance versions in just about every way. 8-)
