I was in my local Gamestop yesterday and casually asked when they might actually have 360's for sale and the answer floored me.
They still haven't been able to fill their PRE-ORDERS!
They have several customers still waiting for their pre-ordered systems to come in, let alone actually having unspoken for 360's to sell.
Apparently they're quite pissed because Walmart and Best Buy keep getting 360's and they're not.
I don't know about you guys, but I would've been beyond pissed by now had I pre-ordered one of these things.

I'm willing to bet $10 on the following statement.
Anyone that hasn't gotten their 360 yet preordered it less than a month before the system launched. Which is stupid to begin with. And so is not getting systems to sell. And those CHEATS! books.

I pre-ordered mine as a bundle from Ebgames(.com) 2 weeks before the launch and it came delivered on launch day at about noon.
Guess im lucky, or maybe i got mine delivered because of the large bundle i ordered.

That's really funny, my local EB has 3 or 4 just sitting in stock as we speak.

In providence and middletown we still have a bunch to do. 60 in prov and like 15-20 in middletown. Reason being we get 4 a week (if that) but a lot of the ones we have left are for people that did it in october or late september.
So yea...nothing out of the ordinary.

This undoubtedly varies from store to store, but the fact that it's happening at all is rather unfortunate. Oh well...that's MS's problem, not mine.

Funny that you say that. I pre-ordered mine at a local hole-in-the-wall store in town a month before launch. They were promised 20 and got only 5. I got mine as I had payed in full.
I am so glad I did not drive up to the GameStop.

It's strange that some stores get more than other stores. I mean it makes sense if there are more populated areas getting more 360's than others, but don't you think they would give more systems to stores with more pre-orders? (Maybe they are I don't know)

I think that preordering systems is a fine idea, but waited before I played the games before I bought my 360. Last system I was excited for, as a rabid fanboy, was the Dreamcast. Now there was a system launch. I preordered that sucked like in April. If I looked I bet I could find my preorder receipt.
But preordering a console right before it launches? Like less than a month before?? When was the last console launch that was able to meet demand before the holidays? And aside from living under a rock... No.

I think we filled all of our 360 pre-orders at my store. Like 3/4ths of them when it came out and the last couple trickled out when we actually got one in stock. We haven't had an actual 360 in stock in about 2 weeks now again.

Weren't some of these preorders actually taken after the launch of the system? People came in expecting to get one, found out they did not have a chance and then they prordered it so as to get on the call list?

Here is the thing, I have found this even more true at Gamestop, they only hold something (even on a preorder) for 48 hours.
This is horrible, but that means they can then sell the units to anyone...or buy them theirselves. Hello EBAY and $1200 christmas money!
Some may call it slander, but it IS true. I used to know several guys who did that during the PS2 shortages (both models).
Anyways then if the customer had one on order they will call him back and tell them the next shipment will be in on XX-XX-05. If the customer doesn't come in again they just sell it again!
This builds anxiety and gives Gamestop the ability to keep getting restocked. If they keep the units in their inventory the company will see it as a slow moving store and not send more during the next shipment.
The thing is, if the customer has one paid in full, the manager may ring them through the register to get them out of the stock. When I used to work for EB Games, that is what I did. Then I would just hold them in the back until it was convenient for the customer to pick it up. Then I just had the customer present an I.D. if I didn't know them and sign the pick up slip.
All the shady retail workers have always pissed me off!

If you would have said this last week, you would have owed me 10 dollars.
I pre ordered mine at the end of September and just got mine last week.
Also, was I mad? Yes and no..... While other stores seem to be getting "a ton of them in", Gamestop was not. But I am a patient man and it takes a whole hell of alot to piss me off. (you dont want to be there when I actually blow my top ;) )
I really did not care if I was the "cool kid" on the block who got it first. To be honest, I have a ton of games from atari - Xbox that I havent even played yet in my collection.
So waiting was a big deal.
Patience. 8-)

Well i preordered mine about 5-6 days before launch and was the second person to walk out on the 22nd. The only reason i was able to do that was i knew the employees real well, and they found out that they were getting a few more than expected and were talking about who to bump up right when i walked in and said i wanted one. :D for once in my life, i actually had good timing

well, working for best buy, I thought I would of been able to get one on launch, wrong! Was a storewide initiative that no employees could buy the damn system until the new year, at least they weren't supposed too. Well, few days before launch I walked into one of those game zone stores that you find in a movie gallery rental place, and they were getting 5, that no one pre-ordered. Just goes to show you how minimum buisness these stores get, hehe.
