Well my girlfriend and I got some great DVD deals, they had a couple of bins with a 3 for $6.99 deal - I think she got about 6 of them. That's cool, but what caught me off guard was the bin with about 30 SNES games and about 40 genesis games in it. I haven't seen ANY 16 bit stuff at a gamestop in about a year or so and I have never seen any at this particular store. The only thing I bought was a Ken Griffey Jr. Not For Resale demo for $0.99. I asked the woman at the register when I was checking out about it and she said that they brought them back because people were really wanting them. Hmmmm..... has anyone had any other experieces like this at other Gamestops??

I hope mine do this. That is the one thing I hated about GS.

I hope mine do this.

I hope mine don't. I already never shop there but the less oversized, overpriced, gamestop stickers I see on older games traded in from there the better.

good pickup on the Griffs... great game. 8-)

I stopped by a GS last week and asked if they carried any 16 bit games, the kid goes "no sorry... the last time was pretty much this time one year ago... what sucks was i got got back into it, and then they cleared it out."

Cool - it would be great if the EBs and Gamestops around here would carry classic games again. Atleast one can hope! :-P

Hmm...theres too many damn places out here for me to check around and see, but it's probably not worth my time. I'm still looking for a ton of genesis carts though...did you see any on my list under "cart only" (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=80294) you can hook me up with ;D?

MAYBE the ESPN.. I say maybe because it was almost all sports games. I'll probably be going back in the next day or two - I'll look.

There is one Gamestop in the entire Twin Cities that I know currently has 16/8 bit games. I've asked them why they have them and they said that they were the collection point for the remainder of the inventory they were still clearing out. True to his point, they were all crappy sports games and SMB carts. I haven't been there in several months, but I'd be willing to bet nothing has changed. The salesperson probably just told you they were getting them back because it was easier than explaining to the millionth customer that they no longer carry good games.

There's 3 in my surrounding area now. I'm pretty sure the one in my mall doesn't have cart games anymore, I'll have to check out the other 2 sometime soon.

This is exactly why I go to Gamecrazy. There is one EB I go to that has old games.

None of the GameStops I frequent here have any NES, SNES, or Genesis games left. Even the Pro Wrestling and non-Mike Tyson Punch Out carts that were gathering dust for months at the GameStop 5 blocks from my house are gone. I did manage to get some of the better games they had left before everything was gone, though.

Things aren't looking better at EB, either. The three stores I frequent that did sell NES, SNES, and Genesis don't have much left. Store #1 has three SNES games that were assumingly sitting in their back room for a while, now they're in the GB case. Store #2 has about 6 NES games and 30 SNES games - mostly multiple copies of Super Mario World and Killer Instinct, but there's a few other decent games there too. Store #3 had a Donkey Kong Country and some SNES sports game in the GB case.

Fortunately, there's still quite a few stores around here that stock these games, so things haven't dried up.

Amusingly, I went into my first GameStop yesterday that didn't have PlayStation games. The times, they are a changing.

Sorry, Im just not buying the "Selling classics again" stuff. About a year ago I bought out most of my local GS's SNES and NES stuff, it was on sale for 50% off plus buy one get one free. I got some nice finds...

Anyway, chances are you simply ran into a misinformed (or lying) employee, heck they might have been a manager. My bet is the place was just the concentration point for all the crap all of the other stores had in stock.

As for the lack of the PS1 games, thats got to be a pariah, or maybe you just couldnt find them. (same thing has happened to me as well) I cant imagine EB/GS ditching all those PS1 titles like that, odd as it seems, Im sure they turn a decent profit with them.

But hey, I could be wrong.

Everyone once in a while, you'll stumble across a GS with any 8/16 bit stuff, it is in fact as you guys said, a culmination point of all the crap they still need to get out of their inventory. They've been out of most of the POS systems for quite some time now. I've worked there for over 2 years before now, and constantly people were looking to buy/sell the classics. Yeah, GS is stupid.

EB however is a little different. I'm not sure if this holds true all over the country, but back home in South Jersey, all the EB stores (except a brand new one) I know of that aren't in huge shopping malls (so, strip mall stores, stand alone stores, etc.) will carry a small supply of classics. Thier stock isn't much, but I've picked up things like Ghosts n' Goblins, Dig Dug II, and some other good ones.

Of course, they're all gonna be Gamestops very very soon, so who knows what'll happen to them @_@

Of course for me, those days are gone since I work/shop at Digital Press store now ^_^

The top stores in the district that do well with the classic games get these games. There is a logic to it.

As far as PS1 games, they are in line to be removed, as N64, and well as GB/GB Color games, with the exception of popular titles like Pokemon, Zelda, and Mario, etc.

If they aren't profitable in a particular store, the District or Region Managers make the call to yank them from a store and send them back to the warehouse or transfer them to another store to where they are more popular.

FYI, Ngage is also on clearance, I believe all games found at EB & Gamestop are $6.99. That is also getting liquidated, for obvious reasons.

The closest Gamestop I have around my area is about 40 miles away. I go every now and then, but all they usually have are N64 games and PSX which I don't really collect.
