I loved the first game, so one based on mthe original movies will be much more enjoyable IMHO. I am excited about this one coming out.

Me too, let's hope that this sequel is like Empire, better than the original!!
(I can't wait to see AT-AT & AT-ST Walkers made out of digital lego)

This game will be sweet, I loved the original. Based on the fact this is based on the "better " of the two trilogy's in my opinion it is a must buy for me. Any idea on release dates??

I think the IGN article said third quarter this year (so at least 6 months away).

The original game was so much fun, it's good to hear you can build your own ships in the next game.

The original was cool, but I kept thinking it would've been better based on the original trilogy.. glad to see my wishes come true! :D
i wonder if the original trilogy level they had in the first game will be the same in the second one.

Figured I'd bump the topic since the game is nearing release.
I played the Demo on the latest OXM and fans of the first one are sure to love this one just as much if not more.
Still can't decide if I want to get the Xbox 360 version.

A silly semi Platformer thats not really very hard. The AI is a bit cheap at times (i'm going from the first one, since I've not played any demo's of 2 and because its not out yet) and you'll get shot alot, but since there's tons of life all over the place, its really not a big deal. The first game was pretty short, but if your a completist theres enough to keep you playing thru another time or two to get all the hidden pieces and to earn enough lego bucks to buy all the characters and codes.

The first trilogy is also coming out this week on DVD.
Hint-hint, wink-wink, nudge-nudge.

Are they putting a demo on the DVDs like they did for ROTS when BF2 was coming out?

Find the demo here:

Played the demo, loved it.
I haven't been able to find an answer to this yet ... Maybe someone here knows.
The Xbox version of Lego Star Wars II has something like 26 characters that are unlocked by the presence of a saved game from the first Lego Star Wars on your hard drive. I have an Xbox 360 and just played through the first game in backwards compatibility mode so the saved game is stored on my 360, however that is done.
My questions are these:
1. Will the 360 version have these additional characters available by default?
2. If not, can they be unlocked in the 360 version by the presence of a saved game from the first Lego Star Wars such as mine?
3. If not, will the already backwards-compatible NON-360 version of Lego Star Wars II be able to find the saved game from the first Lego Star Wars on my 360, or are the files for backwards compatible games stored in such a way that it won't know where to look?
Thanks.

I am still debating as to whether or not I should pick this up now, or wait a little while for a price drop. I'm really not a big fan (or any fan, really) of Star Wars. Having said that, I am pretty sure that a game like this would appeal to me.
But... would I really get the humour, given that I've watched a grand total of 20 minutes of the six films to-date? And, if I did get this, what version would I want to buy? Also... would I want to play the original, before picking this one up?
I've heard that the 360's graphics are quite nice, but perhaps not worth the extra money. The DS version is supposedly pretty tight (despite some glitches), but I am yet to read any reviews, which is never a good sign.

I read over the weekend that, since the original wasn't released on the Xbox 360, you would be able to download these original characters from the Marketplace for 100 points (or something like that). I really don't know the details (and I haven't got any links for you, I'm afraid), but I am pretty sure that is what is going to happen.

I picked it up from a small game shop here today. I only got to play it for about 10 minutes before coming back to work, but so far it's pretty awesome!
The first time you see a character assembling Legos in-game, you will laugh.

I picked this up a day or two ago for the GC, and really like what they've done.
I've only played a few levels - then I went back so that I could get "100%" on the first one and unlock Darth Vader. But there is more of everything: more types of doors that require certain characters (like some doors require Bounty Hunters, others require Storm Troopers, etc.), there are mounts / vehicles that you can ride in, seems like there will probably be more characters, too.
But I just want to kill some palace guards in Jabba's palace with General Grievous - he, Darth Maul, and Jango Fett were my favorite characters from the first one; they just slaughtered everything.

Playing the demo I always loved stomping around Mos Eisley in an AT-ST. ^_^

I've been playing this on my PSP - it's nice getting a console game converted to a handheld that is exactly the same (I've played the PS2 demo as well). I hated GBA games that they tried to make 3D and were so freaking *slow*
Such a stupid, silly game that is *so* much fun to play. Just the perfect amount of humour and nostalgia IMO.
I think I'm gonna find it impossible to get True Jedi on the vehicle missions. I die about 350023750 times during a run, which is tough on the ole' bolt collection :)

Those were the hardest missions for me on the original LSW. I hate, hate, hate that stupid podrace mission.
So has anyone gotten the "Use Old Save" thing in LSW2? I have, and I have the old save on the same memory card - but it doesn't seem to let me actually use the actual characters.
The only thing I've seen is Darth Maul's head in the mix & match bacta tanks in the Cantina. I can't actually choose General Grievous or whatever Christopher Lee's character was or Padme or anything.
Man, I want to romp about with General Grievous! He's the man. Or even if I could get Maul's double lightsaber.
Anyone figured this out yet?

OK, checked out LucasArts' website, and had to dig for quite a bit, but here it is:
You have to both purchase the Extra from the Cantina, AND you have to turn on that Extra in the options menu when you hit pause.

I like co op games and the vechiles aspect seems interesting....
but.... I really didn't like lgsw one maybe like 6/10 so is this game anybetter gameplay wise combat was very weak, platforming was okay
you know why can't they just make a normail sw game like this, bleh

My opinion? The humour only works because of the medium. If everything looked like it did in the movies (instead of made out of Lego) I think it would fall flat on it's face.
(Off topic slightly: anybody collect actual Star Wars LEGO? I broke down and bought a Tie Interceptor today, which gives me 5 ships plus the skiff from Jedi :) )

Jedi Power Battles for Dreamcast was actually rather similar to Lego Star Wars gameplay, IIRC (minus the humor, obviously).

That isn't saying much for the gameplay x_x ... I thought the hit dection was pretty shoddy and the moves weren't that cool at all.... I felt I was just plodding through the game.
The vehicles are the only thing that make me want to buy this game.

Au contraire. I believe gameplay is more than just controller schemes and character moves. The humour and the feeling you're recreating the movie in your playroom with your own Lego are very much a part of gameplay IMO.

No that's pure asthetics and design choice, which isn't gameplay sure it may imerse you a bit but it isn't a lasting effect, merely a little graphical eye candy which doesn't last long, au contraire Mon Frere for the gameplay which is there long after the asthetics have worn off.
